the quicker you can get it up on the transbrake the better just wire the gas to the transbrake button so you let go of them at the same time

not a bad idea

iv got some new pix on my camera to upload, my boot is finished, and im working on the engine bay a bit more. the harness is all hidden inside the drivers side guard, as are the relays from the std relay box in the engine bay. i wish i did that sooner, the ammount of room it opened up in there was amazing!

sweet build mate, yeh steve is awesome he helped me out a bit with my build ( although now im in qld) you'll be 9s for sure once everything is sorted and suspension set up is sweet.

thnx man. yeh steves a good bloke, iv never had a problem he cant solve lol. why you in qld now? werent you a gong boy?

haha thanx bud. just wait til its finished and at powercruise this year!! ( hopefully)

aahhh the sweet sweet sound of a big snail. hopefully mine with the sidepipe and 2k higher revs will sound as orgasmic at that LOL

Will you be revving it to 10600rpm?

Not a bad sound for a full exhaust and plumbed back screamer pipe :P

Nice set up 1TUF33 will be great to see her out racing

Is yours reving to 10600rpm?

Sorry i am about to go slightly off topic

If so: what prep work have you done to the bottom end? Not talking basics like forgies, balancing, etc. Things like titanium rods?; internally harmonically balanced? (ie: rebalance the crank, rods, piston, etc assembly while assembled in the block); anything else?

Reason i ask:

I am in the process of building a rb25/30: Cams, valve springs, extensive professional head porting, 3 angle grind on valves, greddy plenum, q45 tb, ETM high mount manifold, cp forged piston, REV rods, ATI harmonic balancer, N1 oil pump, H.E. competition race sump, GTR race bearings, etc, etc............... (you start to get a clear picture)

Now with all these components (and obviously all the prep work) i was hoping to have a rev limiter set to 8000rpm. Considering a std rb25 revs to 7400rpm factory, i thought a well built, strong rb25/30 would have no problem with 8000rpm. But my mechanic is hesitant to set the rpm limiter there, due to the longer stroke of the 3ltr and claims that the block would have to be rebalanced internally, once assembled, which costs a few thousand extra (something i am not willing to pay). He explained his concerns about harmonic distortion/frequencies at rpm's above 7000 on a rb30.

Just wanted you opinion on the matter and whether you think my mechanic is being too cautious?

Of course you have to assume that my mechanic knows what he is doing and that the work is of high quality; i for one am obviously certain it is .

Sorry Al I was only revving to 8600, 1TUF33 said "2k higher revs will sound as orgasmic at that LOL" and I was wondering if he was planning on revving to 10600

Your rev limit of 8000 sounds spot on to me

Thanks BU5TER :P

It obviously depends alot on the power graph too, as it may be useless to rev to 8000rpm.

I left out the turbo on purpose, as i am using a "baby" turbo for this setup: GT30R

I plan to do alot of motorkahnas/hill-climbs and a few track days, so response has always been my main goal. Hoping for 290-330rwkw with the response better than that of an rb25 hi-flow turbo on a std rb25.

yours does sound sweet mate, but i didnt think it was revving so hard! i think i was at powercruise when you ripped those powerskids, nice show

as a matter of fact yes it is all internally balanced, from the stally to the balancer. i sent it all to a shop near me, and he returned the whole setup to me, labelled, in what order it has to be installed etc. im not exactly sure what was done, but i think he basically balanced it all together, not jusst the crank, so to get it all pretty close to spot on. the only thing stopping you from going past 8k i think would be the rb30 crank, from memory they are only semi counter?. my crank is a full counter job, so it may well be able to take the revs better. il ask my old man, maybe he could shed some light. hes a mechanical engineer, adn SHOULD have an idea on these things lol

are proper cages suposed to be press bent like those!?!?

its allowed to be press bent, as long as the distortion of the bend doesnt exceed a set limit over the radius of the bend. its all im the cams rulebook ( which is the same specs as andra use ive been told)

That sounds like what i have done and what any good engine builder will do. All components get sent to be balanced and matched to minimize harmonic vibrations, etc.

But there is another process that is very expensive and time consuming.

yeh it was really extra money i didnt have, but when spending that kind of $ on a motor you want to do it right

while i have this thread going, does anyone have one of those rubber grommets that sit in the injector seat on the inlet runner that seals the injector? i only need one, but if i have to get a set i dont mind!

Anyone????
