He was past before the corner. At least tats how it looked to me...

I completely stand by my view that call was marginal. McLaren would have been on the blower asking if he had to give the position back straight away and that obviously didnt materialise unless Hammo had another red mist episode and didnt hear the call...

Yeh he was alongside/past and easy to overtake a car when they have to brake for a corner and you jsut sail on through barely braking. He was looking ragged, lockign brakes, hitting Heikki. He may have been great in traffic in GP2, but the few times he has had to race from behind in F1 he has looked dangerous, and not in a good way. GREAT to watch though as i was expecting him to lock up and take Piquet out :)

And i dont normally buy into all thsi FIA love Ferrari and hate McLaren nonsense. There have been times where you have to question it though, and last night i cant believe they didnt make Kimi come into the pits! It is open wheel racign with drivers heads kind of sitting proud of the cockpit metres behind the car in front.

Great race by Trulli though, and again .. Alonso looking ragged! :)

hamilton is pretty fun to watch though, so aggressive........and he's always locking up the front wheels.

i like hammo for his balls and guts in the overtaking department, he aint afraid to dive in and push the car to its limits, which is fun to watch and quite exciting...

hard to comment on the pass as there will be views from either side, the hammo lovers and hammo haters, but it did look like he passed vettel before the corner then just came in too hot and had to pull off over the kurb, in that aspect he did cut the corner and had a slight advantage, so yeh fair enuff bring him in, but at least be fair for all teams in regards to penalties, im surprised kimmis car made it that far, so damn lucky not to have caught fire and dunk it into the grass to burn his finnish a$$ off

the penalty on hamilton was too harsh and there is little doubt about it as it was a close thing whether he made the pass or not. if he had been ordered to give the place up straight away then little harm done.

it is a shame that sometimes the rules are harsher than intended. same goes for the getting caught with no fuel in a safety car period. hamilton could hardly sit around waiting for racecontrol to make a decision (even though i think they made the right call).

What gets my back up is ITV's Hamilton constant suckhole commentary, they never shut up about him no matter what position he's in. Really have the Brits an obsessive attitude or just no life of their own, like they are with their foreigner filled soccer teams?

Anyway Hamilton aka token got rightly pinged, if he had any brains he would have given the position back and had a legitimate go. Kimi should have been required to fix the Fezza too although that call was not as clear cut as token's.

What i loved was the commentary in the opening laps/ "Heikki has to get out of Lewis's way. He is holding him up" LOL, yet they turn around and say that there is no No.1 driver at McLaren. Yet everybody's expectation was that Heikki was to move over ... To date i love the few times the past 12 months that DC and Webber have been on the road together they actually race one another with several positional changes over a several laps. :blush:

McLaren really need to find their way again. They are losing the plot mid season again.

Or damn invisible according to article 2.13.4 of the FIA's Ferrari International Assistance code, which states that,

"... should any Ferrari drivers car be affected by panel damage and/or mechanical damage and only in the instance where the part is clearly seen to be a hazard to other drivers and marshals, in the essence that it is clear the part/s in question may come loose, does the FIA reserve the right to regard the matter as something that does not exist and will in no way interfere in the running of the car and driver in question nor the possibility of effecting the potential points scoring of said car and driver."

Well, it has to be international doesnt it? thats also been written into the rules -

"...the codes stated within are not for use exclusively in the country of Italy, rather, in any country in the world where the logo of the "prancing horse" is sold, raced, traded or repaired, including but not confined to the Scuderia Marlboro Formula One team..."

These were obviously written before tobacco team liveries were outlawed.

Dezz, are you argumentative for arguments sake or do you just not like me?

I dont care either way really, but im saying hamilton was past and lost traction, sliding sideways before the chicane. So do you think he should be penalized for losing control? If yes, then Raikkonen should have been penalised for losing control in Monaco.

If no, then you would be in agreement with Ron Dennis who i would say knows a hell of a lot more about racing than you.

If its the bleeding obvious for me to point out that raikkonnen rightly should have been pulled in AGAIN and head the part removed, then i see no reason not to discuss it.

The simple fact is that you have some fundamental problem with ALL of my views on the sport and id like you to stop being so antagonistic.

I argue when my opinion differs from that of the other person. Sometimes it's opinion, and sometimes its just stupidity on their part.

Hamilton was not penalized for losing control, and Kimi wasn't trying to pass anyone when he lost it, so if you're going to even try and engage in a debate, make sure you know what point you're trying to argue first, or continue to look foolish.

Ron Dennis knows more about racing than me, and the FIA know more about investigating cars and issuing penalties than both you and Ronnie.

The bleeding obvious was that you thought it neccessary to take the time to post that Massa only won because Kimi had a problem and let him through. Seriously, does it need to be said? No, it doesn't. If you really want to know why it's mostly you that I debate with, its because of things just like that. You come across as thinking you know more than everyone else, and see things no one else does. You regularly post your 'top 10's' after every race, in which you consistently state the most obvious things, making out that you're the only one that picked them up due to your superior analytical skills.

I'm a hamilton fan, but even I think he should of given that spot back. Bottom line is he went off the track while trying to brake after overtaking.

Amen. Yes he had already passed the car, but as I said earlier, anyone can pass anyone else if they're just going to skip the chicanes.

You see, heres the rub. We lament the fact that there isnt any overtaking in F1 and heres hamilton with a pair of balls going for it and almost making it stick.

He gets penalized for something we'd like to see, ffs.

Almost making it stick is not making it stick, and thats why he was penalized. He tried to pass someone (good for him) and failed to complete the pass correctly. End of story.

Its not so much the FIA against hamilton but what the hell is the deal with the FIA and McLaren??

100 million dollar fine...all these penalties...

I still to this day cannot understand how Ferrari got away without even a slap on the wrist when they were involved in the spying saga. If it takes two to tango, the FIA shouldve hardened the feck up and slammed them both.

First off, McLaren was found to have benefited from the possession of Ferrari technical data, not the other way around. Yes a Ferrari employee was involved, but he was supplying McLaren with the data they used to benefit their team, so obviously they're the ones to be penalized, while the Ferrari employee is to be dealt with personally.

As for all the penalties McLaren are getting, lets take a quick look at them shall we?

Hamilton and Kovaleinen block cars in qualifying, both are penalised.

Hamilton rams Raikkonen in the pit lane whilst KR and RK were following the rules and waiting for the pit lane to open, taking KR out of the race. Hamilton is penalized.

Kovaleinen blocks cars in qualifying, HK is penalized.

Hamilton misses a chicane as a result of a failed passing attempt and gains an advantage. LH is penalized.

All seem pretty clear cut to me, so I don't see what your whinging about.

i'm actually a little anoyed at that as well, they are handing out penalties to Mccas left and right.

Perhaps they should stop blocking cars in qualifying, ramming cars in the pits, and using other teams data to benefit their cars, and they won't be penalized :)

yeah, Ive, i know many think it was an unfair advantage and lets suppose McLaren were on the blower to the FIA and hammo telling him to keep going - that they thought he wasnt going to get penalised, its Mac's cock up and thats pretty daft - the red light in Canada and now this...

I suppose Mac are shooting themselves in the foot and it wouldnt be the first time...

I can't believe your trying to blame Hamiltons pit lane error on the team. Does he drive with his eyes closed and just rely on messages from the team to tell him whats in front of him? :)

I love it how everyone (Hamilton fans and iTV commentators) constantly ramble on about how good it is to watch Louise drive like that, the way he locks up the brakes etc, its just amazing to watch...

I'm pretty sure that the good drivers are the ones not locking up the wheels at every braking point...

just the way Ferrari likes it.

And I'm sure all of the other teams that gained positions/points as a result of McLaren's penalties are just shattered that McLaren was penalized.

Im pretty sure you like to have the final say when you're having a discussion with someone dezz. That much about you i know.

What i dont know is the way in which you think when you are making your points.

I have never been a self proclaimed know it all for this sport but i watched, collected magazines, read up on, commented on, argued about basically every race since i was 8 years old. As you know, ive even had the immeasurable pleasure of meeting more than half the paddock.

Im 30 now but to me you take what ive been passionate about all my life basically and bitchslap me in the face with it.

The broadside about me coming across as a know-it-all was the trigger, but your post was loaded to begin with.

Seriously mate, you are the single biggest reason its not as much fun to post in this thread because to you, and you would actually prefer it this way, is that anyone who does post in here needs to have the insight you do and the foreknowledge that mere mortals can only aspire to.

I won't waste my time filtering back through recent pages in which you stated your view on everything Hamilton, and completely disregarded everything everyone else was telling you, even though you were in the clear minority.

And yes, I know you've met half the paddock...how could I miss it, what with the constant reminders and all :)

Well, i only have to think back to Japan last year. I cant believe they gave Kubica a drive through for tangling with Lewis. Lewis went wide, Kubica stuck it up the inside when he had been clearly quicker the preceeding laps and Lewis was able to catch it and get the car back on line , but wa too late and the two cars clashed.

It was a racing incident, Kubica was Johnny on the spot and got rolling again and was leading the GP, only to be given a drive through. Personally i think it was a racing incident, and if any blame had to be layed it shoudl have been Lewis who was tryign to come back from a hopeless position. But it was a racing incident, yet Hamilton got off and Kubica denied what could have been his first GP. If there was an anti McLaren force at play then i woudl have thought it woudl raise its head then.

Similarily with the pace car problems at the same GP. A few drivers complained about how Hamilton was controlling the pace, Vettel's penalty was overturned because new evidence showed that Lewis's actions contributed...yet no penalty or even a warning when the clause stated that he has meant to stay within a certain distance of the pace car and a speed relative to the safety car...something that all involved noted as not happening,

Would have been by the book to penalise the guy again here. Thankfully they didnt because whilst perhaps justifiable it would have been a BS penalty.

So , i dont really have a problem with the penalties issued to Mclaren this weekend. They simply need to control their cars/drivers better and stop blaming other people for their errors.

I will repeat, i cant believe Kimi didnt get the meat ball flag :)

:) Even if ITV cant see it, it appears the rest of the British media love hanging their sports stars, whcih is pretty sad. Sure, be hard, but be fair.

One paper wrote that "this sudden persecution complex and petulance does him no service," adding: "He needs to take responsibility for his mistakes." Which i agree with 100%

Another from the Daily Telegraph "You cannot criticise a racer for racing. However, with better judgment in Canada and France he might still be leading the championship."

That soudns fair enough to me. But all the other rubbish about licence plates and calling him impetuos is getting a little personal...for print media

    • It's excellent but I'm still breaking it in so I'm not 100% sure where it'll end up. I would say it's about 15% heavier than stock and the smoothness of the slip zone is quite progressive but you need to be a little patient compared to stock or it'll bite hard and stall. Stock I got away with absolutely horrid clutch control. Like I said before I couldn't even tell where the clutch would grab when it was stock so releasing way too quickly without enough revs it would just slip and the revs would drop lower than ideal but that would be the end of it. Currently there's a bit of a nasty clutch judder if I don't apply enough revs + find the exact wrong point of the slip point in the clutch pedal but it feels like it's slowly resolving as I drive it more. I would not recommend the competition clutch unless you really need the extra clamp force. I think this clutch combined with the Nismo operating cylinder is going to be exactly what I want. Enough bite that you need to remember the release point to avoid stalling or rough shifts, but progressive enough that it's not hard to drive by any means and not heavy at all. I tried a "super single" clutch on my friend's 997.2 Turbo 6MT and that was absolutely horrid. It runs an electrohydraulic power steering pump for the clutch power boost so there's zero feedback in the clutch pedal and there was a horrific clutch shudder well after break-in due to the lack of marcel springs or hub springs in the friction disk. It felt like the slip zone was the thickness of a single toe twitch as well so it was almost impossible to avoid stalling it unless you gave it a ton of revs and just dumped the clutch instead of trying to be smooth with it. I was terrified of pulling out in front of traffic. I have also tried some kind of "super single" on an EK9 and that makes this twin plate Coppermix look like a stock clutch. Releasing the clutch pedal even slightly too quickly feels like you're getting rear-ended. The pedal is extremely heavy as well and there's no vacuum assist like the GTR.
    • Yeah, well I was probably way underguessing the $300 figure anyway. Just multiplied a "normal" by 4 for the purposes of pointing out it's not cheap, particularly if it has to be repeated.
    • We have an alignment shop out here that does what you're talking about but he wants like 800 AUD a pop. DIY is "cheaper" but once you start accounting for the value of your time I'm not sure it's worth it.
    • The main catch phrase for any car is "the eye of the beholder", and "personal tastes and preferences" And as for the plastic "flares", I honestly think they look cheap and tacky, and I cannot see them aging well, maybe if they were body colour they might look better to my eyes, but, I would still prefer it the were more like the older WRX STI models that had the wider body metal panels In saying all this 5hit, I wouldn't buy a new WRX again, even if it had the wide body metal panels
