ummm...

no deal now

The Victorian state government have denied reports a deal has already been struck with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone to keep the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne until at least 2015.

The state government have been in negotiations with Ecclestone about keeping the event at Albert Park amid concerns it could be staged elsewhere unless the time of the race was changed.

Reports in the Melbourne media on Sunday said that a new deal had now been agreed between the parties, but the Victorian government insist negotiations are still continuing.

"We're very keen to secure the Grand Prix again but it has to be value for money," acting premier Rob Hulls told reporters on Sunday.

"No deal has been signed, we're keen to retain the Grand Prix but not at any price."

The future of the event was put under a cloud earlier in the year when Ecclestone said the event may have to move to a night-time slot if it was to continue its place on the Formula One calendar.

However, Ecclestone later tempered his criticism after a successful event in 2008 and said Melbourne still deserved its spot on the circuit.

The Victorian government is believed to have offered to push the race back to 5pm local time to accommodate European television audiences and appease Ecclestone.

An announcement of the final details of the five-year extension to the existing agreement is expected to be made public in the next few weeks.

ROFL! its all about money at the end of the day

"If Max comes back and says we should give more money to teams, I will tell him to mind his own bloody business," Ecclestone said.

See the article about Kubica and Hamilton? How they really arent friends these days, as they like, need and do different things. Kubica needs a roof over his head and a quick car. Lewis is busy with movie previews, parties and flashing cameras. Kubica is so down to earth. The more i read about the guy is quickly becoming my new favourite driver

Also i wonder what Bernie is playign at? http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news...617151751.shtml

He used to love Lewis because the exposure his success did for the sport. But somehow seems to have fallen out of favour with the F1 powerbroker?

good on you troy, glad to see you come over to the kubie zone. you have to give the guy credit. I mean he comes from a country where 'top level motorsport' means goat racing around the local vodka distillery. how on earth he made his way to F1 is one hell of a miricale. the boy can drive.

that is awesome. best thing bernie has ever said, and should fire hamilton up nicely....

The F1 CEO also rates Robert Kubica, the Canadian Grand Prix winner and new championship leader, very highly.

"If you saw him in a McLaren or a Ferrari, I think I'd put my money on him blowing away Hamilton," Ecclestone said.

Bernie Ecclestone rates Fernando Alonso as the best Formula One driver currently on the grid, and believes Lewis Hamilton would be no match for Robert Kubica if the Pole was driving a Ferrari or a McLaren.

The Formula One supremo was asked to give his current top five F1 drivers by The Times' F1 Blog and this is how he rated them: Alonso, Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Kubica and Felipe Massa.

Ecclestone also believes Alonso would've outperformed Hamilton if he was still at McLaren.

"If he was still in a McLaren he would be showing Lewis the way home - I don't think there is any doubt about that," Ecclestone said.

"I never asked the guy - I'm going to ask him one day - when he signed for McLaren, whether he was told he was number one. Because if he didn't ask and he wasn't told, he would have assumed he was. Having a guy that's never been in a F1 car in the team with him, he'd expect to be number one wouldn't he?

On Hamilton he said: "The difference with Lewis is that, last year he didn't have to prove himself because he was the new kid on the block and he wasn't expected to finish a race. This year, people say he should have won the World Championship last year, and therefore he's under pressure to make sure he does it this year."

BMW's Kubica is currently leading the Drivers' Standings after seven rounds and Ecclestone has no doubt that he is in a class of his own.

"If you saw him in a McLaren or a Ferrari, I think I'd put my money on him blowing away Hamilton," he said.

!

yeah thats right no one likes u Hamilton lol!

:ninja:

Amid the delicate negotiations for a new Grand Prix contract, Melbourne's F1 race has lost the support of its local council.

City of Port Phillip mayor Janet Cribbes on Wednesday called on the state Victorian government to scrap the event.

"After 14 years, residents have had more than enough," she said in a statement.

"Why should they have to suffer the noise and the inconvenience of a car race in a park for a race whose public price tag blew out to $41.

3 million last year?"

She also said the annual race "does not benefit Victoria" or the country and "doesn't stack up on economic, social or environmental grounds."

Melbourne began hosting the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in 1996.

yeah that is bullshit. boo fking hoo. those poor residents who have to put up with noise, during business hours, for 3 days out of a year.

and as if it doesn't make economic sense. I mean the money I spend there on beer alone would keep John brumby in short pants for years.

and if those poor residents have been 'suffering for 14 years' then why the fk didn't they move away? i mean if it's that horrible and you remain traumatised for the remaining 362 days of the year then give yourself a break and fk off somewhere else. maybe canberra would be more their speed.

next time I see janet cribbs i'm going to give her an uppercut to the balls.

look at the shit they have gone through for the clipsal here in adelaide due to the locals, they wouldn't accept a permanent grandstand but have given the ok for a semi permanent stand that will take 11 months to build and pull down :P seriously if they don't like living near the track move or go on holiday that weekend!!!

Jun.19 (GMM) Formula one drivers are threatening to boycott the British grand prix next month, according to reports.

They claim the radical increase to the cost of their mandatory FIA superlicenses this year was unfair.

Previous to 2008, superlicences cost drivers just 1,690 euros plus 447 euros per point scored in the most recent world championship.

But the World Motor Sport Council in January approved an increase in the cost of a superlicense to 10,000 euros, plus 2,000 euros per point.

It means that reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen's 2008 license cost 230,000 euros.

The German specialist magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports that the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA) is requesting an urgent meeting with FIA president Max Mosley prior to the forthcoming Silverstone race.

If Mosley does not agree to lower the cost of their superlicenses, the drivers are reportedly prepared to strike.

An unnamed proponent of the threatened strike action said the FIA's fee increase is particularly harsh for drivers like Robert Kubica, the new championship leader.

"He is not yet earning an awful lot, but his license costs nearly a tenth of his income," the driver said.

Lol, thats laughable but think about it - an F1 driver complaining about the cost of his license with all the millions in the bank? Pitiful and stingy...

Itd be like us boycotting the bowzers over the price of fuel...

hey...

Thats not a bad idea if we all agree to do it.

Did Lewis really buy the vanity plate for 400k?

taken from somewhere on the big WWW

Q: I have been asked to ask you a question about a number plate. Have you bought LEW15?

Hamilton: No. Absolutely no interest. That sounds about the worst number plate I've ever heard of. I'm not stupid enough to spend a couple of hundred grand on a bloody number plate. I wouldn't spend a hundred pounds on a number plate. A number plate's a number plate. It doesn't mean nothing to me. I just heard about it today. It was the first I'd heard about it.
