B. J.
Hey all, I just got a phone call from a mate saying that there are cops galore on the Hume between Campbelltown and Picton turnoffs, they're pulling any form of modified car over and obviously giving them a good shake down. There are also unmarked cops patrolling, and a cops parked in any U turn or stopping bay... if you're headed to Canberra, make sure your car is 100% legal, find another way, or dont bother going... either that or bend over. Remember its Double demerits and fines until the 6th... so it could be very painful. cheers, Bj. Haysey
after driving to and from melbourne just before NYE i encountered a massive amount of cops, sitting in little towns, anywhere with a speed difference, and on the general highway sitting in the darkness too...... slow down and stay safe people its not worth speeding to get there a small amount of time quicker! 4teecal
DD wouldnt matter unles you are speeding or not wearing a seatbelt. There are no defects that carry points. NXTIME
I suppose it's good that my car isn't ready as I would get reamed. Nothing a trailer couldn't fix. And yes, it is like that every year. DECIM8
Actually there is defects which carry points.. seatbelts, seats, steering, and wheels I think include some. Loud sound system also carries points. Its on rta website, type in offences i think comes up with a list or demerit points actually Edited January 3, 2008 by DECIM8 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200022-summernats-warning-hume-hwy/#findComment-3561697 Share on other sites
Abo Bob
Didn't they defect cars on trailers and tilt tray trucks one year? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200022-summernats-warning-hume-hwy/#findComment-3561702 Share on other sites
NXTIME
Yes, they did that by making the owners drive the cars off the trailers and then defecting them. Bastards. Michele
Can they do that? If they can... Should ask for a location which was private property to unload on as it wasn't intended for the road. We take track cars on the back of the track and they are in no way street legal, I'm really surprised if they can ask you to unload them. NXTIME
They can ask you, but they cannot make you. Unless the police/RTA want to weigh the trailer unladen?? Either way, they are sneaky I simply refuse on the basis that the car is not registered. Bastards. basically wouldn't that consitute as them asking you to do something completely illegal? benm
If the car on the trailer is registered then they can defect it because you have the intent on driving it on the road (otherwise it wouldn't be registered would it). In the last 3-4yrs i've been going to the Nats it was only the first time that i was pulled over and that was at an RBT station where they did a db reading on my exhaust which I obviously passed. After that I drove my van for the last 2-3yrs and havent had an issue or seen any issues. The only thing they could get me for on my current gtr is pod filters, hrmm need to find a standard box. Seatbelts, brake and steering carry points (3 each) and undue noise under the Protection of the Environment Act carries points as well.
