HKS Air Pod (fully secured, but not in an enclosed box) ----- As long as your pod is secure it will be fine.

Front Mount IC ------ If they see a front mount they will most likely send you to get an EPA emissions test.

Boost guage on dash ------ Illegal if it is in the wrong position, youre better off removing entirely.

Turbo Timer ------ Illegal without engineers certificate.

tinted windows (think they will defn get me here) ------ Depends on how dark.

full 3inch apexi exhaust (gonna buy a silencer to quieten before i go in) ------- As long as your decibel limit is under 90 youre fine.

manual boost controller ----- Illegal without engineers certificate.

Apexi Blow Off Valve ----- All atmospheric blow off valves are illegal.

Strut Brace ----- Fine.

TEIN Coilovers ------ All adjustable coilovers are illegal without engineers certificate.

Be aware that if you have to go for an EPA test - you probably wont pass... If you take a stock VE Clubsport to be tested they dont pass, even if you take it there straight from the showroom. The rules are stupid.

Also if you have "staggered fitment" wheels and tyres you will need to change them for stockies as they're illegal.

This is exactly why I didnt drive my car that whole weekend...

Cops are tops!! ---- Sarcasm.

I thought certain TEIN coilovers were ADR approved, thereby legal? And don't most new cars have factory standard coilovers in them?

ADR used to mean that they're road legal but the RTA in all its wisdom has passed a new rule that states that all height adjustable suspension is illegal without engineers certificate - and to get one of those apparently you have to get the height adjustability locked out or removed somehow?

Dont ask me where they came up with that brilliant idea.

Really??? Do tell...

I'll let her tell the story.....don't know if she wants to post it up or not. She got pulled over saturday night in Braddon. My jaw just dropped when she was telling me.......it was one of those times when you would've felt like swinging as it was happening but would've had to hold back.

Really??? Do tell...

hehe you would love to get something on me, wouldn't you?

Its a long story... but for those who weren't there, here we go.

I was accused of doing something I didn't do (I know what you're thinking... they all say that?).

I was pulled over for getting a 4x4 3.5 ton truck with huge nobby Mickey Thompsons "sideways" between Lonsdale St and Mort St lights (from a standstill) and for speeding.

I politely told him that while I'll admit to accelerating and getting up to speed quickly, I didn't once break traction, or speed and there was no way I had the truck sideways. I told him I was watching my speedo closely and know I didn't get over the speed limit.

I was stopped at the Lonsdale St lights and had to stop again at the Mort street lights... thats the length of the servo there, what 100m? You make your own judgment as to whether I could get the truck sideways in the dry with a heavy tray on it. Better still, ask Mang, Donnan, Mrs Donnan, SteadyEddy and Titan who all witnessed the so called fictitious event. If I did, then I must be a sh!t hot driver :P

He would not back down and said he had RTA officials in the car who also witnessed me getting the truck sideways.

He took my licence sat in the car for about 5 minutes to where I hopped out to avoid my vocal passenger from saying anything further to jeopardise my case and stood beside him while he and his RTA officials (who couldn't look me in the face for obvious reasons) checked licence, rego etc. He then he got out and said that he wouldn't give me a ticket if I admitted that I had the truck sideways and was speeding. I said that I simply could not admit to something I know I didn't do. I asked him if he had seen the tyres that were on the truck and questioned my ability to get the 4x4 sideways in the dry.

He said he was upset about the black smoke that poured out of the truck when I took off to which I agreed it does do, but explained it is a diesel, he stood there for a few minutes telling me about how many Summernats he's done and then let me go. So I guess deep down he didn't feel right about pinning his false claims on me, especially since its been about 20 years since my last ticket.

I was polite and respectful at all times, but inside was frustrated and fuming at how powerless we are when things like this happen. You can't argue or you get yourself deeper.

Actually, the whole thing reminded me of a joke...

Officer "Here's your ticket"

Victim "you fu<kin low life dirty c#*t"

Officer "you can't say that, I can arrest you for saying that"

victim "oh" *pause* "then what if I think it?"

Officer *long pause* "well then, I don't suppose I can do anything if you think it"

victim "okay, then I think you're a fu<king low life dirty c#*t"

Since when have you had a large diesel truck with M/T mud tyres on it??

If you'd invited me to your birthday I would have shown it to you *pout*

LOL j/k

It was a friends, he was drunk and didn't want to drive.

haha no worries guys, cheers for all the info :domokun:

so far i have removed MBC, BOV (tomorrow), and low hanging exhaust,, plus am getting an engineers cert for the coilovers , Icooler , shift light, boost guage, turbo timer, pod and wheels.

After I get the cert, I head in.

Fingers crossed they dont seem to find something little and unexpected like bushes or some steering things..

other than that, I should pass as I will have nothing illegal on my car..

what a big pain in the ass this is,, not to mention the dead $'s

ps: where is an EPA test normally done ? and whats involved? (in terms of FMIC)

I heard there's no equipment in the ACT to do that. That's from an exhaust shop.......might be wrong though.....??

You can get certain pollution readings from a normal dyno run, but the only way to get a proper EPA test (the only kind that Dickson will think is good enough) is to go to the RTA centre in Sydney (Botany Bay?) and get a full emissions test done there.

The plus side of the f**karound of having to drive to Sydney is twofold:

1 - The EPA test is free

2 - You can swing by Just Jap and have a look at the R35 GT-R that was delivered there today

isn't it great when they heavy you and then back off when they realise you won't cough. b@stards. makes you realise how 'fit-ups' occur when people are intimidated. There were a few clever d$ck bush lawyer types in the Army who used to try the 'sir i'm not allowed to call you a f<ckwit, am i? No. but i'm allowed to think it aren't i...?' line, unfortunately for them the law manual provided ways to respond. I must admit I had a good lol when I first heard it years ago, credit where it's due.

but seriously Lady Bytes...you've missed a golden opp here. i'd have taken the ticket as an admission that you did get the rig sideways in 100m, and after the rumours took hold you'd be the stuff of legend for ever. just something to consider for next time :(

Cheers

oh damn... I didn't think of that >_<

I'll post some photos when I get a chance, even if I am hijacking threads again :P

well, took my car in today with the eng cert and they let all the engineered stuff pass, but still hit me on rear tint (mine was 4%, and they only allow 35%), and the rear battery (in any car) now has to be a gel cell and NOT an Acid one, grrrrr (damn technology).

so 2 more things then im through :(

Gel cel battery? - What a crock of sh!t, I think that if the car was made in the early 90's designed for a normal acid battery then thats what the rules should be...

I suppose that they think if you have a head on smash and the battery comes through the cabin the acid might burn you? - I would think that if you have a head on smash hard enough to dislodge the battery that severly you would have bigger drama's than getting some acid on you!

F*cking rego rules p*ss me right off these days! :(

Rant over.

I agree man, it sucks ass, they just want to try and ping absolutely anything and everything they can on you. I suppose so they can say they're doing their job. I am happy to take the hit for the dark tint, but the battery is absolutely rubbish, maybe I should speak to my engineer about it.

Its obvious that law enforcement officials hate import cars, full stop. I was coming back from inspection today and had a cop sitting next to me (on northbourne, 3 lane road) and the passenger cop was just staring at my car, looking for things to ping on me. Obviously I wasnt worried having a defect slip in my hand and just coming back from inspection nearly full stockish. But what pissed me off was that about 30 metres in front of my car (and the cops) there was a commodore (bout 2001) with half of his perspex number plate snapped off, like the first half of it was gone! They didnt even notice that, which I see as a definite pull over froma cops perspective, however they just kept lookin at the liner. grr

my rant over too.

    • Middle seat good for a slab of beer or Esky for a road trip. 2x kids, means 1x free seat lol.
    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
