Regarding 2nd gear, when i change from 1st to 2nd it's a bit 'sticky' on the upshift. If i change at higher RPM, like 4000, it's not a problem or if i've been driving a little hard and the tranny is all hot then the 1>2 change is fine at any RPM.

Is this a case of new tranny oil, or bad synchros, or anything else?

Thanks :(

put some smurf-blood in the gearbox (blue Redline Shock-proof gear oil) and see how you go :(

fixed the crunchy synchro on my previous 33 GTSt

Nice, i'll check out the Redline fluid. Any difference in brands? I'm a fan of Motul :/

  • 3 weeks later...
I have a similar problem with mine, ended up going for some Castrol stuff, definitely did it some good, but it's still pretty rough. May have to try some redline next time and see if it actually makes a difference.

I was reading some where here about this redline. It say they are not good at all for skylines, it does help to get rid of crunchyness for a while but its not recomended. Do a good search and you will find lots of thread regarding. My car also realy hard to shift, then heard good things about redline then bad things, not sure what to use now....

read ppl...read......(One person in a thread was begging not to use redline shockproof as he knows its gona do bad in long run)..

im confused. cuz in red line web site, its specificaly say it suits skylines................

    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
    • I've been quietly following this thread for ages, but this one got me. Since my ADHD diagnosis (and associated learnings and prescription) I'm way less inclined to wade into forum yarns when there are better things to do with my time, as half the time I'd end up in some kind of forum debate even if that wasn't my intention. I've not lost the ADHD "superpowers", just am a lot better at directing my hyperfocus into slightly more constructive things, but haven't stopped quietly lurking in here in my spare time.
    • Stripped the tank down and gave it a good scrub. It came up really good! Not sure if I'll just put it back in like that or give it a blackening treatment (such as Bowdens The Black Box). That might give it a matte look so might just run it as is.
    • @MBS206 Ha ha, yeah ADHD is a daily battle to not get drawn in to doing things you want to do that you know you shouldn't do!  Every single time I walk into my shed I end up doing something I started the day having zero intention of doing! I keep mentioning the 1 step forward, 3 steps back scenario and I'm tipping people that are blessed with ADHD (yes, blessed) are the worst at that!
    • We import a lot of cars from Japan. I'd say that approximately 20% of our traffic is imported JDM cars (mainly consumer cars like the Mazda Demio, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, Suzuki Swift, etc.). We also import a lot from the UK, but this has decreased after Brexit. Apart from the consumer vehicles, two of the larger, well-known dealerships frequently import iconic '80s/'90s JDM cars. I haven't heard of anyone importing from Australia, and they are not advertised (unlike Japanese ones), despite a lot of Maltese migrating to Australia in the '50s and '60s.
