Hi all. As the topic states I can't figure why my car is idling high.

This is all the work that has been carried out engine wise to help you guys out with a solution;

- Plenum (standard) was removed and replaced to have it powder-coated.

- Throttle bodies may be been cleaned but I don't see why the mechanic would do it without charging me for it.

- Throttle bodies may have also been wrongly adjusted.

As far as I know there are no air leaks.

Where should I start with this? So far I have taken it to a normal mechanic and a performance place. The performance place was Chasers. They did an excellent job on everything else but could not identify the problem.

Any relevant input would be greatly appreciated. Please don't hi-jack the thread. If this problem is posted elsewhere and I didn't search properly please let me know and i'll contact a mod to have it deleted.

Thanks in advance! >_<

I have had exactly this problem.. the culprit.. the power regulator to the cold start. I took it to racepace and they spent quite a long time finding it (but find it they definitely did). I assumed it was the cold start itself, so we replaced that first, but the same symptoms appeared after a short time. It wasn't until the power regulator was replaced (which from what I gather is in a very annoying place), sorry I can't be more specific than this.

they may well have been cleaned while the plenum is off, they are right there so it might have seemed like a good opportunity.

you should be able to see if the throttle is adjusted incorrectly (could be but probably not) do they close right to the stops when no pressure on the accelerator?

all vaccum lines reatached properly? did a line maybe come loose when removing/refittting the plenum. do you have a boost guage thats T'd into one of the lines that may have been pulled off during plenum work, and missed because its further down one of the vaccum lines and not plumbed to the plenum itself?

Hey guys thanks for getting back to me.

Sarumatrix - the culprit.. the power regulator to the cold start. - I will look into having this work carried out, thanks for the tip. Neither of the mechanics I brought the car to mentioned this.

Duncan - they may well have been cleaned while the plenum is off, they are right there so it might have seemed like a good opportunity. - Thats what I'm thinking. From what I can tell, the throttle bodies are closed off completely. But I will definately check this thoroughly asap.

.....I really need to learn how to quote.

Boost is showing exactly what it should (12-13 pound). Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Thanks for your input so far, it is much appreciated!

Pretty sure this is the cuplrit. I recall a thread a few weeks ago where it was decided DO NOT CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODIES. Nissan put a special coating at build time, and cleaning removes that coating, allowing sufficient air to leak past and cause high idle.

I read the same thread just now.

Next question is, what do I do?
