Hi Guys,

I have a farked back, and need to push my ares hard in to the back of the seat, with the belt very tight.

When I do this the belt put's to much pressure on one side of my body (and doesn't hold my spine straight), which causes further back pain.

I'd like to look at installing a racing harness (for street use) so I'm held in the seat even.

Dose anyone know if it's possible to fit a harness to the standard seat of an R34 GT-T, if so what are the legalities, and would I need an engineers certificate.

Last of all any idea where I would have it fitted.

Thanks

a proper harness with quick release wont be legal for street use. also I would recommend against using a 4 point belt with a standard seat anyway as it has no belt guides around your neck and even worse no neck guides for the lap belts which leaves them free to move. in an accident it's possible you will 'submarine' under the belts and be in real trouble.

if you have a back problem perhaps look at a fixed back bucket seat. they give full back support and are of course compatible with a 4 or even 6 point harness. plus they protect your whole spine and will not easily snap in half like a factory seat will, they also promote a more upright seating position which wont hurt.

Yeah I thought about that but it's difficult because the seats never feel the same in the show room as they do when fitted to the car.

In a previous car I had a good quality Recaro, which felt great in the show room, but once fitted to the car (different angle, height, etc) it felt terrible, and I ended up removing it.

Also do these bucket seats have any adjustable lumbar support?

Thanks

    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
