Turbo/boost Fuel Economy

Hi, I have a 96 R33 gts-t and was wondering how to get the best fuel economy out of it. Alot of threads have discussed things to improve fuel economy but not many about how to drive the car to achieve this. My car is fairly stock with only an aftermarket exhaust, pod and a boost gauge. I was wondering if it is better to be in a higher gear with lower revs and be on say 2psi now and then or use the engine's power without the assistance of the turbo and rev higher in each gear and not really pass the 0 PSI mark? Also is it possible to have a DSBC on less than the standard boost, Say 1 or 2 PSI and basically eliminate the turbo for daily driving? Then just shoot back to full use of it when needed? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cant run less than actuator boost, 7 psi, i have found for best economy, rev out each gear a little bit, but dont load the motor, as this allow reasonable acceleration whilst staying in closed loop. Also try to roll on the accelerator gently,as this reduces the accel pump function.

Ah ok, so rather Rev it in a lower gear rather than use boost. Would fuel economy plummit if i were to use 3/4 or full boost say in 5th gear and only at 2k? Is this supplying more air pressure/ fuel than the car is using? Cheers

Fuel economy is controlled by the right foot.

Cruise around and accelerate with light load, 3000rpm (or less) gear changes.

Dont load the motor up either, if its ! 1500rpm and you wanna accel, down gear one/two and use the gearing rather than boost... again light accelerator

Its really just the same as any other car in the world.

Gotta go easy if you want economy... but if your worried about fuel, then you shouldn't have purchased a skyline :D

Haha thanks for that , now have a better understanding...But when it comes down to it, fuel consumption is a small price to pay for a quality performance :D

The standard setup though, has a bleed solenoid to bleed to 7PSi.

An EBC can allow you to do this by turning the EBC off and on as wanted.

Basically, use the revs, but don't boost.

Once you hit boost, it just chucks fuel in to richen it right up.

Actually, for an N/A car, full throttle shifting at lower rpm as opposed to light throttle and revving it higher is better for gas. The opposite is true for turbo cars since load changes how much power (fuel) you use at a certain RPM.

So your saying that if you fit and ebc, like an avcr and turn it off that it will only run 3psi??

I find this hard to believe since i am running like this atm and it goes to 7psi.

I don't.

Waste gate is only a 3PSi spring.

Your waste gate may be different.

Seriously, on the standard setup, turbo = boosted by 2800RPM, to 3PSi steady, at 4500RPM, it cuts upto 7PSi, how do you explain that?

boost is at 5psi untill 45000rpms then 7psi.
Might wanna get that checked...

Every tech article I've read claims 3PSi.

I'll pull my boost controller out tomorrow and run it up and see what it hits... I need to do this anyway, as I need to go back to waste gate pressure before destroying th eengine.
