Nick, from personal experience I got my apprenticeship by door knocking. I walked into places and asked to see the person in charge. Seeing people face to face and letting them know your keen can be a great personal selling point. I had a few documents incase they were interested, photo copies that I could leave with them ( as a reminder). Be well rehearsed so if they ask about what you've done and what your looking for you can answer sharply and confidently. Openings are always out there it's matter of seeking them out and not waiting or hoping they'll come to you. It worked for me on several occasions.

Good luck.

I had many years in Kalgoorlie, if up north is similar it's a good idea to have tickets even if it's HR, fork but definately elevated work platform if your looking at TA work. Dogman also worth doing. It can be expensive gaining these tickets but you can claim some back on tax and you'll recoupe this in no time earning them big bucks up north.
