Mate, nothing will make you push weight knowing that if you fail, you're in big trouble.

I squat heavy on my own for thrills.

lol yeah I agree largely with this, only I don't want to look like a complete tool when I get stuck under the bar rofl. If I can lift the weight for 2 reps, then when I fail I can guarantee it won't fall on me....I just won't be able to get it back on the rack :P

Damn, how did I miss out on so much gym discussion?

lulz I know right.

Lucky for you muscle memory exists. When I went overseas for 3 months, I lost around 10kgs.

I put it back on surprisingly quick (but be warned, the first month of training will be seriously depressing.)

14 months though...eeep. Yay for beginners gains version 2.0 I guess.

Bloody oath...when you're training at such a high level, it's a bit like doing 200km/h in a car...you don't need to put on the brakes, just back off and you'll lose speed very quickly, much quicker than you do at 100km/h. I notice it if I miss just one gym session - the next session feels a lot tougher to get through.

longer arms generally make it more difficult to get the weight off your chest... not too many tall/lanky powerlifters... same with olympic lifts, just makes for more distance you have to move the bar and makes it harder for you to lock out

I train out of the PCYC in St Kilda... its in no way glamorous, there's no spa or sauna or chicks with makeup on but its cheap and does the job... if your close you should come check it out

Ahhh I see, makes sense. Looking at all the bench press competitions/records on YouTube, the guys all look like fat T-Rexes...in part because their chests are so ridiculously big that their arms end up drawn back. Range of motion = 6 inches lol. Yeah will come down sometime. I used to work out in a real meat axe gym when I first started...I know the definition of non-glamorous lol. The worse looking the equipment, and the smaller the gym, the bigger the guys haha.

Oh and didn't get a chance to do the 50kg bench x max thing.

I don't think it would do much good in terms of growth, but sometimes it's good to train just for the pump and mix things up.

Winter goals:

155kg bench max (current max 145kg, have done 150kg in past :()

220kg deadlift max (current max 210kg)

200kg Squat max (current max 190kg)

100kgs @ no more than 15-17% bodyfat (currently on about 93kgs at @ 13-14%)

Yeah agreed. It would be good for endurance/stamina and to get the blood pumping...that's about it I'd say. Those are some hefty goals...you must be bloody solid at the moment though. How tall are you?

So, who wants to recommend me a SUP ? Birds ?

What are you looking to get from the supp? More energy for your workouts, good muscle recovery, to gain weight, all of the above etc.?

Why is it I can do 34kg dumbbell press 9/8/7 reps, yet can't muster more than 5 reps at 60kg on the bench?!??!!?!?! Mind you this is in the same session with 75kg decline press ~25 reps total and dumbbell flies+pushups all beforehand, but either way I just farken SUCK at bench press.....

Do flat bench first mate. Then do the incline/decline as peripheral exercises. I agree with Nick, you appear to be tiring yourself out before you get to them, when you should be tired for incline/decline.

Was a little exhausted, had a very f**king stressful day and lack of sleep...all in all apathetic lol...not one bit of caffeine or sugar all day :(

Sleep = better than any supplement you can take. Shit is so important when training.

Yup, great for self discipline too. You can still do max reps this way...because I've trained all my life by myself, I know my body well enough to know if I can get another rep in or if I'm going to die in the ass on it. But yeah, so many times I've been half way through the final rep and had to hold it there for a solid 10 seconds (a very long time when you're holding up a lot of weight) before I can find the strength complete it. Bar has only collapsed on me twice.

Hahaha looking like a fool is the least of your worries mayne...when that bar lands on your chest, you realise just how strong your shoulders/pecs were in pushing that weight. Concentrated into thin bar form, that's a lot of crush on your ribs/sternum. Hurts like a bitch!!!

most people at the gym these days that are big are mainly on roids

Prehaps i can say 80% are on roids , well mine anyway

even people that are small and aren't big can be on roids . They simply dont train properly and expect the roid to kick in effect.

Ummm..... What?

Hahaha. Must be a interesting gym you go to? Do they sell them at the counter? Or free sample on sign up?

Gyms can become like that. I think you'll find the figure much much lower in a family gym like mine, but in a complete meat axe environment within a close-knit small gym...steroid use is much more commo...because the guys are A. hardcore meat axes and B. all know each other / do much the same training and diet programs. You can say you wouldn't do it, but if you were a member there, there'd be a ton of peer pressure for doing what everyone else is, or simply to keep up with them.

All of the above, except for the fact that I don't want to gain weight from "bulking" and then cutting it back, I would rather just grow lean muscle as I train.

Being lean is important to me.

Currently 80KG want a 5KG increase is muscle mass plus a decrease in fat percentage.

Okay, well a lean whey isolate will be good for all that. Just make sure it's low fat and has a 50:50 protein to carb ratio, or tipped in favour of protein. As long as you keep cardio up you won't have to worry about gaining fat. I know you like your running, but too much long distance running is counter productive to muscle gain and weight gain in general. Maybe stick to running short distances and faster/sprinting, or along the lines of HIIT. Other than that, try different brands until you find one you like the taste of or you notice it working for you...they're all pretty much the same shit.

I've lost 15kg and serious amount of muscle mass though the core is still there.

Signed up to a gym which i'd consider a serious 4.5 star on setup and services wise, only 12 months since opened and all equipment brand spanking new, paying only $8.5 p/w absolute bargain. Has all the necessary tools for a great work out

Yeah, that's pretty much what I expected, they all taste like shit :P haha.

Is 4 x 10km a week too much running ?

Where do you hulkamaniacs buy your supplements from ?

Running always makes me lose size and so I stopped running completely for several years and found myself even better now. Anaerobic exericse you burn fat as you don't utilise oxygen.

I recommend brisk walking on a steep incline is really beneficial and also find the elliptical trainer effective too. At least do 45min to an hour for effective fat loss.

The best for fat loss though is HIIT hands down but more proned to injury.

I purchase my supplements online as they are far more cheaper than going to a health shop as you will be paying shit loads more. I go here for mine www.vitaminme.com.au

Where is everyone buying their supplements from, ebay etc? I found that GNC from the US offer great value especially with their gold card discounts. I bought a 10lbs bag of Optimum Gold Whey for $115 delivered and cheapest ive found here is $150.

Hey Birds I tried the 50kg bench press til failure last night... but I did it right at then end of a workout where I'd done some powercleans and heavy overhead presses and was stuffed... and the wind was blowing in the wrong direction and I was wearing the wrong colour shorts... lol... nah I only managed 25... when fresh I think 35-40 would be doable but don't reckon I'd be making it to 45 any time soon (without much more practice)... it was a good pump to finish off a workout though, but I did feel it more in my arms than anywhere else... that's the problem when doing high reps on compound movements, the smaller muscles in your arms etc tend to fill up with blood well before you stress the major muscle groups

long story short... I'm a big vagina

ps. olympic style lifting is the shit... its freakin difficult and will f**k you up like nothing else... I feel like I was hit by a bus today

pps. bicep curls are ghey... and any time you walk into the gym at least half the dudes in there are curling in the mirror lol

pps. bicep curls are ghey... and any time you walk into the gym at least half the dudes in there are curling in the mirror lol

Depends though,

some people like me use the mirror so i can concentrate on my form. On occassion my elbows start to kink out if im going heavey and as i see it in the mirror i rectify and make sure the rest of my reps are perfect.

yeah I use the mirror to check form as well... but then there's the guys who spend 30min doing arm exercises... usually the same guys that aren't very big in the first place and are just there so they can look good in a singlet... would be better off doing chins... arm only workouts are for bodybuilders... and heros lol

    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
