Should point out that I'm not disagreeing with his information/science; he just sounds like one of those people who has gone and spent hours, even days studying up on the science behind a particular diet (Lipids of a 6 month old? Really? That's the figure we're looking at now, instead of kg?) instead of devoting that time towards lifting some weight and not eating so much shit.

People just always looking for the alternative, easier way out of doing hard work...this mentality doesn't go hand in hand with success. It makes you good at failing.

Easier physically or mentally? Coz a ketogenic diet is definitely not the easy way out mentally. Far from it.

That's my point. Look at the reason he turns to keto in the first place...cbf with mainstream methods, i.e. get off ass, do exercise and eat in moderation. So spends hours researching a diet that is a mental pain in the ass to upkeep...

The guy you quoted does come across like he's putting too much into it, but short of it being difficult to avoid carbs (since they're in f**king everything these days, even goddamn spice flavourings like "Pepper Steak" has sugar added to it!!) it's easy enough to go with. Don't really need to count calories at all since some studies have even shown that blowing out calories on a keto diet still leads to fat loss lol.

Well you know how I feel about counting calories!

There's only two people who should do it: sports coaches and companies who have to put it on their food packaging.

Birds, the only thing I'm going to say is that if I went "by feel" to achieve the physique I want, I'd either starve myself to death by overly restricting my intake, or I would put on more fat than you could even fathom by following your own methods. Recently when I've just been eating whatever I wanted, I wasn't only eating "excess calories" - I was nearly blowing it out by more than 50% some days. Hell, other days even more. That is NOT a good way to go about it, which is why your attitude towards calorie counting blows my mind.

Since I'm already getting every comment in my email due to subscription to this thread I'll add my 2 cents.

I've more or less always been able to eat what I wanted as I've always been running/gyming, but noted that after spending a few months on my arse from my leg, that my metabolism seems to have dropped a gear (I'm also into my 30s now so no doubt tat plays a role).

I'd always prefer to just exercise more and eat what I want, but my current state of leg/back health does not allow over exertion so I've had to be somewhat more mindful at least on portion size.

My main point being, what works for one will not always work for everyone else, we're all at different points, wanting different things, and have different bodies trying to achieve it.

Do what works for you.

You don't own a mirror?

Or are you a 15 year old girl who can't trust what she sees :P

What's amazing is that in an age of calorie counting and phone apps to help you lose weight, WE'RE FATTER THAN EVER!

We're fatter than ever because we're more sedentary than ever. EVERYTHING gets done for us, and all our foods are low fat bolstered with carbs for taste.

Looking in the mirror can be hit and miss, if you have a deadline then you're f**ked if you realise you're going the wrong way. Also you can go too far in the wrong direction if you drop calories too far, coz you know since you're not counting what you eat you really have no f**king idea if you're going over or grossly under your requirements.

Counting isn't necessary, I do agree - it's just a little bit more effort for a lot more assurance. Makes things a lot easier (don't misconstrue my meaning with that word) since you don't have to run on an effective "trial and error" method, like I'd have to go by given my f**ked appetite.

Fair enough. Give it a year and you'll get used to how your body changes depending on what you eat and how much. You can afford to trial and error, it's not a uni assignment. You can't ever expect to get to know your body properly when a calculator is the middle man. It's like learning theory vs practical.

In other news, Bulk Nutrients switching back to sourcing their whey from NZ instead of USA? I recently ordered a batch of chocolate and the flavoring has changed. It's richer and less sweet; tastes more like cake than Nesquik now. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.,,

Stats: 6ft3 78kg.

I'm 80kg at the moment but, as someone on here so often says...strength in the gym, size in the kitchen. I've been 90kg before; I know how to get fat and how to cut.

It's personal preference, but even at only 6ft I felt that 80kg or less was way too lean for me, I got down to 78, not by choice, and was way too skinny.

That said, I'm more in it for looks than strength numbers, and having said that I mean just wanting to look half decent and healthy and not like an anorexic desk jockey.

In the meantime I'm using calorie counter because I have set myself deadlines. Back in September/October I didn't count calories and got amazing results, so I do understand what you mean. I think it's a lot to do with my appetite lately, because back then I hadn't just come off a feeding frenzy bulk period lol, so perhaps after a few weeks of relying on calorie counting to keep my intake where it should be, I won't have such a ludicrous appetite any more and can afford to go back to "feel".

Also I noticed a tiny taste difference with the USA WPI, as well as it stinking like shit hahaha. I'm glad they're going back to NZ stuff, even if it's all in my head. Like someone either on here or on Facebook commented - keep it in the region at least.

Sorry to hear about the engine / turbo damage.  Fwiw with any engine problems it often really a case of just seeing what happens when it's apart, ymmv - I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the damage isn't even from the turbo failure, or possibly from a combination.  The airflow between cylinders isn't dead even, injectors can go off over time as well, with the turbos overboosting if you didn't have upgraded fuel system there could have possibly been a bit of leaning out - stock triggering is often a bit unreliable by this age too.  Basically its an old engine and a few things could have been going on, and you won't know how much work is needed until the engine is apart.
