A healthy heart is very important, for everyone.

Problem is, 90% of people who think they are doing exercise for the heart, are not.

We just had the Pacific Ironman event or whatever its called in Frankston in March, they literally close Frankston down for the day

Anyway, a competitor from Austria who flew out for the event asked if he could train at PTC in the lead up. I dont know why, nothing I can do to help a guy whose event lasts a day.

Anyway, I expected this guy to be freaky fit, what a disappointment. He honestly couldnt get through my beginners workout, yet had no problem running, riding and swimming for over 10 hours.

High rep squats had him breathing like a freight train.

I found this with the footballers I trained.

So my point is, exercise for the heart etc is not walking or jogging only, its hard work. The heart is a muscle, most forget that

Those that do cardio for fat loss are just ill informed.

I get clients every week wanting to join, asking about cardio and sit ups, serious. I keep a pic on file to show them of a client who has never done direct ab work and sure as hell has never done cardio, not even a KB circuit

I agree with that, I've stopped doing all ab work, still have abs. Not like that guy but decent for a guy who sits all day and only trains 3x a week.

I walk in the morning purely because it wakes me up, the dog likes it, and it helps with my ankle.

The body is lazy and will quickly work into a groove where it can sustain cardio work with minimal effort on the muscle/cardio system. That is, a 10k run does jack for you compared to a 1hr gym session with some decent volume.

Maybe high end cyclists are one of the exception? they maintain great speeds for long periods which can only be done with solid leg power.

High end cyclists arent doing cardio, nor are they riding to burn fat, quite the opposite

They are participating in a sport

That, I feel is where most go wrong

There is a reason why gym lifters NEVER make the same progress as those that compete

I'm living proof, I speak from experience

I guess that's my point Markos, what they are doing goes beyond "doing cardio" although they are doing an exercise strongly related to burning CALORIES etc.

But elite athletes are actually trying to minimise energy expenditure by becoming more efficient, the exact opposite to Joe Blow in the gym.

No exercise burns fat, none, they all burn calories.

Imagine if there was actually an exercise that burnt fat

People would be dying and it would be outlawed.

Heres the issue.

You say this burns fat

Someone quotes you

Then we have people saying they are confused with info out there. Why is there confusion, its very basic stuff

I believe in accuracy, its my job were discussing.

Its like when someone lifting a weight thinks hes building muscle, quite the opposite

Birds, Eric Marocher owns that gym, met him in 2010 in Idaho, lovely guy, his wife is Dawn, the strong bencher

They are both teachers and run the gym in the evening, funded by the lifters. They cant run it as a business because of an assortment of shit like medical cover. If they had to pay there own, it would cost them $40,000pa (kids)

my heart specialist told me weights do just about FA for the heart and its health.

he has told me some sort of cardiovascular work must be done, whether it be a walk, run, job, bike, box etc

also can vouch that time spent in a PTC gym being shown correct technique and guided is worth the money spent. Trent from Sydney was a champ.

Im a little confused (what else is new)

Do you mean because when you lift a weight you're tearing the muscle and it builds by repairing at rest?

The human body adapts to overcome resistance. This applies to everything you do in life.

When you lift heavier weights, you give muscle a reason to build.

When you eat, you give muscle the blocks it needs to build.

Hence strength in gym, size in kitchen.

Birds is spot on

That girl Verity is a novice, it was her first comp, not sure she has done too much training

I like this girl, Inez. It was her first comp too, she has joined PTC Perth. This is strong
