Cheers man, gets better though :P As of this morning I'm weighing in at 77kg...and managed that 180kg pull :D vid below - was a bit sloppy halfway up, not quite sure what happened but at least it wasn't an almost-failure point hahaha

Yeah I've swapped to Sumo permanently to avoid SIJ issues. I did a single conventional pull of 100kg this morning, and could immediately notice a dull pain in my SIJ.

I agree on the 4x 20kg plates though haha, just looks f**king tough. If I buy more plates though I'll have no excuses not pushing for 200 lol....I'm a little scared :P

i have only done sumos once and have found them slightly harder to get the weight moving but once it up it moves a lot easier. I think ill continue to use them as an assistance exercise, but some people can pull huge numbers sumo so i guess its whatever suits the individual.

I could put 20s on, but they are short and thick plates, so gives me a bit of a deficit on the deads and my long legs hate that! The 25s are short enough as is. Trained at a different gym lastnight and the 20s had handles; were taller on the ground than my regular gym's 25s. Prolly gave me a slight advantage off the floor.

Bar knurling was great though, really tore up my skin and didn't need chalk.

Jagermeister although quite yummy is not good pre-work out.

Not a strength problem, quite the opposite really, it was more of a balance one.

I nearly put the BB through the Ford which shares the garage with my home gym, as I am trying to sell the Ford I though it prudent to cut my session there.

I guess the lesson here is to replace the rack with a cage.

isn't sumo shifting the load to your hips more than back? either way I prefer conventional, and most pros do it that way.

Yep. When done properly it uses more leg and less back.

Never seen reason to try it myself, but I've never had an injury or reached a plateau that's made me want to. Usually it's one of these that makes someone give it a go. I know my mate got pretty scared when he pulled a muscle doing deads, he's too scared to do conventional now. I don't agree with that kind of technique bandaiding, but whatever makes you happy I guess.

Had an argument with a mate at dinner quite a while back, where I got quickly shouted down by everyone for suggesting bench press was more a shoulder and tricep exercise than it was a chest exercise. The consensus was that chest was the major muscle group exerting effort during the exercise. And well, you can't really win an argument in that situation, as the masses will just shout you down. I really could have used this video / explanation that night!

haha yeah I figured that too without watching the video (but I do like Elliot Hulse when he's not waxing philosophical)

Did bench and OHP for the first time in a month with light weight and skipped dips, so far so good, I've also started rolling my traps and upper shoulders with a cricket ball which really helps too.

;) on actual training etc I do like his philosophy though, also the fact that he freely admits to having juiced before, unlike most YouTube fitness types (aka Kali Muscle, become pro bodybuilder on Tuna and Ramen LOL)

Hey all,

I've been doing light gym work for the last two months following the back surgery I had three months ago. At the moment I'm just using bsc hydroxy burn pro, lean and ripped formula. I get it from Coles and am looking to buy a bigger amount of a better product if anyone knows? I am not looking to get big, I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time by either taking too little or too much supplements.

Over 2 months of going to the gym I've lost 4kg of fat and have maybe 4 to go max I would say. Not looking to take short cuts I'll be doing light gym work for the rest of my life now to try and look after my blown lower back disc

I don't think there is a "too little" amount of supps you can take.. ive personally lost nearly 5 kg in the last 6 weeks and I haven't been taking any supps at all whilst maintaining nearly all my strength

All ive done is the basics

1 drink only water

2 cut down on carbs ie breads, pasta, rice

3 cut out processed foods

4 Add 10- 15min of intense cardio in the morning before my weight regime in the arvo (doing 3-4km on the rower usually, the thin air at 4500ft gets me breathing heavy pretty quick lol)

5.Keep up a reasonable intensity during weight sessions

6.Stay off the piss

What are the limitations of your cardio in regards to your back?

    • Because people who want that are buying euros. The people with the money to buy the aftermarket heads and blocks aren’t interested in efficiency or making -7 power, they’re making well over 1,000hp and pretty much only drive them at full throttle  best way to way make money is know your customer base and what they want and don’t spend money making things they don’t want. 
    • It's not, but it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity regardless. For example, what if the cylinder head was redesigned to fit a GDI fuel system? It's worth like two full points of compression ratio when looking at modern GDI turbo vs PFI turbo. I'm pretty reliably surprised at how much less turbo it takes to make similar power out of a modern engine vs something like an RB26. Something with roughly the same dimensions as a -7 on an S55 is making absolutely silly power numbers compared to an RB26. I know there's a ton of power loss from things like high tension rings, high viscosity oil, clutch fan, AWD standby loss, etc but it's something like 700 whp in an F80 M3 vs 400 whp in an R33 GTR. The stock TF035HL4W turbos in an F80 M3 are really rather dinky little things and that's enough to get 400 whp at 18 psi. This just seems unwise no? I thought the general approach is if you aren't knock limited the MFB50 should be held constant through the RPM range. So more timing with RPM, but less timing with more cylinder filling. A VE-based table should accordingly inverse the VE curve of the engine.
    • I've seen tunes from big name workshops with cars making in excess of 700kW and one thing that stood out to me, is that noone is bothering with torque management. Everyone is throwing in as much timing as the motor can take for a pull. Sure that yields pretty numbers on a dyno, but it's not keeping these motors together for more than a few squirts down the straight without blowing coolant or head gaskets. If tuners, paid a bit more attention and took timing out in the mid range, managed boost a bit better, you'll probably see less motors grenading. Not to name names, or anything like that, but I've seen a tune, from a pretty wild GT-R from a big name tuner and I was but perplexed on the amount of timing jammed into it. You would have expected a quite a bit less timing at peak torque versus near the limiter, but there was literally 3 degrees of difference. Sure you want to make as much as possible throughout the RPM range, but why? At the expense of blowing motors? Anyhow I think we've gone off topic enough once again lol.
    • Because that’s not what any of them are building these heads or blocks for. It’s to hold over over 1000hp at the wheels without breaking and none of that stuff is required to make power
