Mate I haven't posted anything childish, it's all factual information and legitmate correspondance. This isn't off-topic and incase you haven't realised I do have a strong interest in resistance training.

You picked at Birds in a condescending manner. Like a child. Don't say you didn't.

my bench sucks... I have short arms and a pretty well developed chest so should be built for it but still struggle under anything much over 110kg... then again I only do flat bench once every fortnight so I'm the first to acknowledge I need to practice it more if I want to get better at it... genetics aren't going to help if I don't work at it

but I managed to sort my deadlift out last night... been mucking around with a few different strategies suggested by you guys and resisted going for a belt/straps and just working on my grip... still lifting regular (sumo just feels weird) mixed grip got 5 x 160kg (I'm about 81-82kg ATM)... stopped there as I do full body workouts so can't afford to ruin my grip for the rest of the session but I reckon a 1RM of 180kg is doable?... might try for it when the gym isn't so packed... had people stepping over the bar while I was setting up to lift which is off putting

guys need to remember this is a car forum so the goals of the members in this thread are going to be broader than your average muscle forum but still lots of good info so keep it constructive

How much does Birds weigh? I thought I read 90-96kg somewhere? Anyway a bodyweight bench press might be impressive if you weigh 140kg+, but for an average joe it's pretty...average

I fluctuate around 83kg at the moment, at 6'3". I think I'm doing pretty well for my height and weight.

All my lifts are documented in my training log

Oh look, 20 bazillion low rep sets per session...but instead of me saying that's ridiculously excessive (as it would be for the kind of training that I do) and that you haven't learnt anything in the time you've been training...I'd rather just assume that you probably have different goals to me, therefore different ways to go about achieving them. I'm not the biggest flamin mongrel in my gym, but you don't get to my level without knowing a thing or two about how or why you got there, so to tell me that I haven't learnt a thing in the 8-9 years I've been going to the gym, is just a silly comment to make.

Bodybuilder?, Weightlifter?, Powerlifter?

None of the above, hammer thrower (track and field athlete).

See why classifying everyone who lifts weights as a 'bodybuilder' is not only retarded but disrespectful to those who actually are bodybuilders? Do you know how much discipline is involved in being a top level bodybuilder?

How can you say this with a straight face after you assumed that I was in the gym training to be either A) a lifter, or B) a bodybuilder? And then go on about it being disrespectful for other people to label people what they're not?

The funny thing with genetics is they seem to improve the harder you train, and it's easy to spot people who don't put in the effort because they're too busy making excuses about genetics this or steroids that...

Wut...genetics are static, you can't change or "improve" them, not in this day and age, and they do help or hinder people in the gym. That's real science, not broscience. Mark Henry:

mark-henry.jpg

He didn't start life as an ectomorph, nor did his bone structure develop by choice. I will never be as strong as him no matter what steroids I take or how hard I hit the gym, that's just fact and genetics at work. He was benching 238kg in high school, and at 400+ pounds he nearly broke my friend's massage table. But he'll never run as fast as I can, no matter how much weight he loses. And I'll never run as fast as some Nigerian olympic sprinter. It's not that I've given up on any goals early, just that at some point you need to recognise your limits in the face of other people who weren't born equal.

And that's about all I've got to say on all this.

I fluctuate around 83kg at the moment, at 6'3". I think I'm doing pretty well for my height and weight.

Well compared to who? What exactly are you goals, what do you look like? I've been following your posts for a while in this section, some of them I don't particularly agree on (never said anything), and I have yet to see a photo of your physique or training log to see how you train, so the only thing to go on was after 8years of training you're still benching ~100kg, which is not particularly great considering that level can be achieved by most with less than 12months of training, regardless of what their goals are, but of course dependant upon their trainer.

Oh look, 20 bazillion low rep sets per session...

Read it again, plenty of 10-20 rep sets.

I'm not the biggest flamin mongrel in my gym, but you don't get to my level without knowing a thing or two about how or why you got there

What level, please go into detail?

In a recent post by you weren't you asking about weight loss and best way to maintain an AFL-type physique IIRC? You should certainly know this after 8 years of messing around in the gym. Like I said above I've been following some of your posts and just found it strange some of the stuff you and talk about considering you have spent so many years training.

Wut...genetics are static, you can't change or "improve" them

The point I was making is that a lot of people hide behind the "I don't have the genetics to be good at this" banner, as an excuse to not try.

When I started weight lifting I was a 49kg cross country runner, thinner than a chopstick, did anyone ever think my "genetics" would allow me to squat 350 pounds? Or close grip bench press 100kg with 12" arms? or deadlift 375pounds? I haven't been training that long but I've still got a lot more potential to suck out of my "genetics" by training to improve them.

It's not that I've given up on any goals early, just that at some point you need to recognise your limits

I can guarantee you are nowhere near your limits, there is ALWAYS room to improve. You just have to want it, and have to train for it. At PTC Frankston there is an old guy James, 62yo, with less than 2years training, has deadlifted 200kg, squatted 165kg and benched 90kg. If an old guy like that can achieve those results then so can any 20-30yo half-capable male. There was a guy at the last PTC Brisbane powerlifting comp with cerebral palsy that lifted some good weights, more than the average gym rat. The majority of PTC clients are regular Joes who want to get fit and keep in shape. They don't look like bodybuilders, they don't look like power lifters, they look like normal people, but they're stronger and more capable than the average gym rat because of how they train.

Tl;dr? Make the most of your time in the gym.

.......if Old James went to Fitness First a PT would have him jogging on a treadmill followed by fluffy dumbbell curls, some 1/4 squatting with a fanny pad, and some pushups on a bosu ball...

They don't look like bodybuilders, they don't look like power lifters, they look like normal people, but they're stronger and more capable than the average gym rat because of how they train.

The sooner you realize/accept (whichever of those two it is you're not doing) that the MAJORITY of people train to look what they perceive as 'good', the sooner you will save yourself having to argue/debate with so many people and stop having to tell us how awesome the PTC squat/bench/dead team is.

No one is mocking those who choose to train to be strong, seemingly just for the sake of being strong.

As is often the case in the NS fitness section, too many of the brainwashed PTC guys can't seem to accept that some people don't give a f**k how much they squat/dead/bench/MP. They train to look a certain way.

You guys (PTC, powerlifters etc) need to get on with reaching your goals and not worry so much about what everyone else wants to do.

FYI, this is the mate I was talking about earlier (guy on the right)

l_b13e4e0ce4439b253e9293a26604b6-1.jpg

When he was training, he benched around 30-35kg dumbbells. I bench more than that, whilst weighing less, yet my chest is non existent in comparison. Genetics.

If I had a body like that, it wouldn't be possible for me to give less of a f**k about how much weight I can lift in the gym.

He has a far superior looking physique to yours, so he must train harder than you...

YEEEHAAAA looks like we have ourselves an old fashion shoot off... photo shoot off that is

sorry couldnt help myself bahaha

Dezz, to be honest mate that dude looks juiced? if he's not then i retract my comment

My guess is diuretics or his diet must be pretty farkin clean to get bodyfat down that low. But alas the internet Dezz could post anything and without a shred of proof it isn't worth jack..

My genetics suffer a lot with losing bodyfat and growing my chest. I'm a tiny dude but have my dad's genetics at having huge natural strength. I did a PB yesterday with dumbell benchpress at 55kg each 7 reps. Will aim for 57.5kg and 60kg soon. Nearly f**ked up my shoulder after doing barbell incline 120kg for 6 reps. Scared the shit outta me. I'm really trying to grow my chest but dam genetics lol.

That explains all the muscle and size. Silly me thinking he have good genetics.

If you can't form valid arguments, don't try, you look like an idiot

Ghostrun I agree with a lot of your points about strength training vs the pointless shit you see at a lot of gyms but your not doing it any good by coming across arrogant and dismissive of everyone who doesn't subscribe to the same ideals

if your putting aesthetics aside for the moment (which sounds like you are) and arguing that getting stronger is the be all and end all, then I would argue for practical applications (like most sports) strength is nothing without speed... as you know strength + speed = power... so to that argument we should all be training like olympic lifters and gymnasts... but for most that isn't practical as its too difficult and time consuming and doesn't match up with their goals from a risk/time vs reward standpoint...

apples and oranges dude... shall we fire up the 'practical strength' debate and get a few of those crazy crossfitters in here to argue with you... they would probably bring endurance into the debate and tell us all we should be climbing friggin ropes or something... I don't train like them, I train like you but it doesn't stop me from acknowledging for their goals their way of training is great... and sometimes I might even adopt some of their ideas and techniques* (I have been known to use a swiss ball occasionally)... I even adopt some bodybuilding training purely for aesthetics (gasp)... and I also throw in some olympic lifts to help with my athleticism

*except for the way they do their pull ups... WTF is that shit!?

That explains all the muscle and size. Silly me thinking he have good genetics.

Both of those guys are standing next 16yo girls...I didn't comment on size because I have no metrics or real comparisons. Why don't you compare their arm and chest sizes to some bodybuilders, think you'll find it's not that special. Physiques like that are a dime a dozen in America. To me it seems like you are more impressed by the vascularity, waxed chest and tan....

    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.

    • Forgot to mention. I love the fact that Greg, Gregged Up, the model of his car, that has so many gregged up stories about its build! I had to have a little laugh. At the same time thinking "That's the sort of thing I'd do to myself!"
