People respond differently to pwo supps, so while we can recommend ones that we find work the best, they may in fact not work well for you. For example I wouldn't recommend assault, used it once would never use it again but that's just me.

I use a PWO supp called "If you're too tired to get through this workout, change something about your workout/sleep/food/life!"

;)

Each to their own I guess, if it helps you to do what you want. I can't imagine pumping the body full of stimulants to be the greatest thing in terms of long term fatigue...surely there are run on effects down the track? I know after a night of red bulls (don't drink the shit anymore) I used to wake up with friggen hang over.

Curiously, for people using PWO supps...how do you find your workouts to be once you've gotten off them or during cycle off?

Also, on a protein shake note...have switched to Bulk Nutrients WPI now. I recommended it to a mate based on it's popularity on here, not having used it myself. So he bought some chocolate and gave me a sample to try...shit tastes great and mixes so easily!

Reason I'm making the switch: I was previously using Ultimate Nutrition ISO Mass Xtreme Gainer...which was an awesome all-in-one product (so many supps packed into one, it's ridiculous), until the latest batch I received...it now smells quite fishy and is difficult to mix up. Could be a coincidence, but I also noticed it giving me slight headaches a couple hours after using - never felt this way with the previous batch. The values printed on the information label are slightly different to the previous batch, so something has definitely changed about the formula. A real shame, because I truly stood by that product...recommended it to everyone and it definitely gave me what I wanted at the gym.

Despite less combined supplements in the ingredients, it's time to see what the BN people can do for me.

I just bought the Bulk Nutrients WPC chocolate for the first time. Previously was using their WPI chocolate.

The WPC has less protein per 30g, 23.x versus 26.x for WPI and it also has more fat and carbs although its still very low compared to alot of others out there and low enough to not be overly worried about them. However it is $50 cheaper when purchasing 5kg compared to WPI.

It definitely is a lot thicker when mixed and you need to shake it a lot to make sure there's no clumps which there still is sometimes which sucks, I hate that so much! So definitely does not mix aswell as the WPI.

Taste is OK. I dont find either taste of the chocoloate BN proteins to be anything great. They are drinkable and dont taste bad but its not something you actually enjoy.

Next time I will get the WPI again as despite the extra cost, it mixes so much easier with no clumps, is easier to drink (not as thick) and has more protetin and less carb and fats. However if you can put up with those small things, you can save yourself $50!!!!

Pre-workout supps are being banned soon, a lot of the stuff in them is just stimulants and has no nutritional value. Sooo, basically what happens is kids take the preworkout which breaks down their muscle fibre more than if they trained without pre workout sup, however they will keep their diet the same which means only some strength gains will be made but muscle mass will remain the same if not decrease. Point is, if you have pre workout supps you need to adjust your diet accordingly to suit the increased intensity and repair more muscle fibre breakdown. It will also take a bigger toll on ur CNS.

I honestly think they are unnecessary but thats just my opinion, I've gotten to where I am without using them.

Pre-workout I'll eat breast chicken (fast asorbing protein) which will provide amino acids during the workout and brown rice (carbs slow releasing) and that usually gives me enough nutrient stores for the workout, then ill have the whey protein with 30g pure carbs post workout (spikes insulin which means the protein is absorbed faster to repair the muscle during the 60 minute anabolic window) etc etc

As mentioned, only 1-3 dimethyl products are being hit with the ban stick.

Also, I would do a bit more research towards the statement I have outlined there. There is both research to back up the use of simple carbs AND/OR complex carbs post workout, because it is often said that the whole "insulin spike" phenomenon is a lot more bro-science bodybuilding related, than true fact. Whether you consume simple or complex carbs post workout will not substantially change your lean muscle gains. The "anabolic window" statement also makes me laugh a bit due to the fact that post workout is the most pro-catabolic period in your day, very far from being anabolic (you've just broken down muscle fibres and caused more damage than muscular atrophy due to low protein synthesis would).

Not trying to sh!t on your comment, just providing a bit of food for thought.

How pricey is Bulk Nutrients?

I use Dymatize Super Mass gainer and it costs me $80 for a 5.45kg box

I don't think they have a 'mass gainer' product, so you'd have to mix'n'match from their WPI and carbs etc....however food for thought WPI comes in at $151 for 5kg delivered to Canberra last I bought some. That's awesome value considering what you get WPI for retail.

That's why simple carbs are so important straight after a workout though. When you train you use blood glycogen. The body then responds by releasing cortisol, which in a nutshell increases glycogen synthesis and breaks down amino acids to form more glycogen.

So when you finish training you need to replenish you glycogen stores asap before you body does it for you by breaking down aminos.

We are obviously talking 1 percenters though here for you average joe, however for athletes this is very important.

If you want to create a mass gainer from them, you can purchase the powdered oats and add that to your protein. Its 58g per 100g for the oats and costs $9 for 1kg. Im doing this now for my 'bulk'. It tastes pretty ordinary but its the only way to get a mass gainer combination from BN.

Despite the size of the box, that Super Mass gainer wont have many servings. It only has 16 servings at 334g each!

BTW I got tested for body fat tonight.

Weight was 83.9kg and height was 171cm. Body fat was tested using a hand held machine (?) not the pincher thingos!

Came at 20% body fat.

A little bit out from my first guess  but inline with Birds estimate!!!

Not too bad considering I am eating a lot right now and not doing any cardio at all.

PT reckons I should aim for 15% when I start my lean, based on my size, age and in his words 'thickness'.

That's why I halve the serving ;)

Still end up with 126 or so grams of carbs and something like 26 grams of protein.... I also add a cup of oats though as you mentioned, a banana, and 200g of yoghurt. Yum

Hand held machine? Hmm sounds like the one I've used which you hold on to and it gives you a reading (electronic). This machine has trouble determining fat from water at times so it isn't as accurate as a proper scan, but nonetheless it's good enough to get a rough idea.

This is true but unless you take a glycogen gel type product immediately after you finish exercising, you're not really going to speed the process up between taking a "pure carb" supplement or just eating a bowl of rice. This is moreso related to using the ATP-PCR system anyway, so if the breaking down of aminos was so important, you would have to take pure glucose during the workout, not after (think about sprinters... they're sipping on that shit after a 100m race because their stores are depleted... not after 45min to an hour such as a workout).

Also the actual protein content in a single serving is much higher than just about all other brands on the market.

So cheaper price, more protein per serve... Great value!

And vanilla, chocolate and banana all taste great!

Yeah it was that one. He mentioned something about the % probably being mostly water. Anyhow, it gives me some indication of the number. To be honest I was not even concerned with it in the slightest until I was asked in this thread. I have been eating a lot of junk recently so it should not be that hard to bring it down. I'll start having a real crack just before cricket season.

Let's not forget the table that GTSBOY( I think) posted a few weeks ago, just because a supplements states it has a certain amount of protein doesnt mean squat.. Your lucky if your getting 90% of what it says it has.. I'm switching over to optimum nutrition, 1 cause it actually has most of what it says it does and 2 if tastes awesome

Btw, just like setting a track/drag car up properly, it's all the 1%ers that make the difference in the end..
