When Max won the Worlds in 2010 in Idaho, we got a lot of publicity. Since then our lifters have improved every year. We now have a PTC in Frankston, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, Adelaide after Christmas. The Sydney one is least powerlifting orientated with Brisbane the most

We set 36 WR at the GPC Nationals on the Sunshine Coast in June from our Frankston gym alone, 105 in total. It was Australias first foray with GPC (Global Powerlifting Commitee), and since raw has only been around for 4-5 years, the records arent massive yet, in any Federation

The team of 17 Australia is sending overseas is the largest ever

Every lifter that I have was a novice with no competition history, so yes anyone is welcome to lift Nick

As far as records go in the 82.5kg class, Dave Parmiter just went 665kg at our Nats, the WR is 675kg, he has the highest All Time Total at that weight in Australia

We have a 19yo, Martin Nguyen in the 82.5kg class, he broke all 4 teen WR at Nats, he squatted 227.5kg, benched 132.5kg and deadlifted 272.5kg, totaling 632.5kg at 19. He is lifetime drug free and didnt wear a belt.

He now wears a belt and is moving up to the 90kg class next year

Nick, have a go mate, once the focus changes to strength, improvement is rapid

some cs student on here, Gareth, is a great lifter, squatting over 200kg in competition at around 80kg

I've been doing a split routine for a while now and been seeing some good results

I do

Chest/tries

Back/bis

Legs shoulders

Then just keep cycling through that. Every second session on a body part is the same exercises mainly focusing on compound lifts

Ie

Deadlifts

Rows barbell/Tbar

Heaves

Dips

Presses shoulder/chest

Squats

Weighted lunges

Cleans and press etc

Been working pretty well so far

Wow! I'd be lucky to total 460kg... crazy... do they have pullup comps? lol

I really like the powerlifts as a core of my strength training but not so sure I want to compete... might have to rock up to a local show and check it out

Yeh I usually try to do a split routine, fairly similar to yours Joey. Currently once a week.

Chest/tri's

Off

Back/bi's

Off

Shoulders/abs

Legs

Off

Was thinking about changing to doing this twice in 8 days.

Chest/tris/abs

Legs

Back/shoulders/bi's

Off

Not sure if it will be to short of a recovery time doing it 2 times a week though.

If I do go to the twice a week split, I think I will do it for a couple of weeks then have a lighter week where I revert back to the once a week split.

Guess I'll have to try it out and gauge how my body reacts to it.

Nick, what state are you in (dont say excited)

no chance of that, I'm at work;)

Vic, live in Highett work in St Kilda... currently train at the St Kilda PCYC which is super basic but has enough... my old man is a PT out of there, my mum, sis, wife, bro-in-law all train with him... even my gran who is 96 lifts weights!

I basically train myself nowadays though... do a mix of powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding, circuit training etc... jack of all trades, master of none... but if you call me a crossfitter I'll have to kill you;)

That's it marko, Im pretty much just sticking to the same routine. Though I change the rep range every six weeks

First is 3-4srts of 10reps

Then 3-4 sets of 8, heavier then previously due to less reps

Then 5x5s

So far results have been good, what are tour thoughts though?

Mitch, sometimes I split my shoulders and legs up into two different days just to give certain muscle groups more of a rest

Ie if I do deadlifts and my core and hamstrings are fooked, I'll do shoulders the next day instead of legs

Nick, or anyone for that matter, on Sunday August 19 we are holding a novice comp. Its basically for gym lifters that want to test their strength in competition with official judges, its a fun day with no stress.

No need to wear a lifting suit, t shirt and shorts are fine.

Were also having a sausage sizzle as a fund raiser for Worlds.

Anyone interested in having a lift its $20

Anyone want to watch, please come by

I have a few forum members as clients in my gym, come meet them

Lifting starts at 12.00pm

PTC Frankston

2 Skye Rd Frankston

Markos, it finally hit me who you are...

Absolutely love your newsletter on 'definitive guide to fat loss and body recomposition' - I've been sure to make anyone I know wanting to drop fat have a read of it...shame most of them are too ignorant+ lazy to even consider trying it.

Anyone got any tips to make a protein powder taste better?

Made the rookie mistake of ordering vanilla thinking itd be a safe choice and it takes bitter as f**k. Still got heaps of it and dont want it to go to waste, but it doesn't taste any better with milk instead of water which I was hoping it would.

I used to add a spoonful of milo to a bad vanilla back in the day...worked well.

I'll try the milo. Do you recommend with milk or water for the milo?

I have had 2 different powders before and they were both a good tasting vanilla. This dymatize protein smells nice, but taste's like death...

Legs are entirely out of the equation for me indefinitely. 5x 100kg deadlifts, now I can barely stand up. So much cramping pain in hip/pelvic area, it's making me shake just sitting here.

    • Hows your intake piping? Are you still running stock? Having in the stock AFM position would mean, if the BOV was shut/venting out, it'd create the almost stalling kind of effect right // "the rich pulse behaviour" due to MAF thinking air is flowing ? But this would be better than having the bov in the stock position + MAF on/just before cross over piping right?
    • Essentially, yes. Although I wouldn't put the AFM on the crossover pipe. I'd want to put it into what amounts to the correct size tube, which is more easily done in the intercooler pipework. I bought a mount tube for card stile AFM that replaces the stock AFM - although being a cheap AliExpress knockoff, it had not flange and I had to make and weld my own. But it is the same length and diameter as the stock RB AFM, goes on my airbox, etc etc. I don't have a sick enough rig to warrant anything different, and the swap will take 5 minutes (when I finally get around to it and the injectors & the dyno tune).
    • So to summarise, the best thing to do is to move recirc to between turbo and IC, and maf on the crossover pipe. Meaning I'd need a recirc flange, drill a hole in the piping on turbo outlet area. And drill hole on crossover to fit/weld maf sensor? Either that or put the MAF on the turbo inlet right?  Is an aftermarket recirc/blowoff valve recommended? Do currently have family in Japan so could probably bring something back with maybe a cheeky lil SuperAutobacs run?
    • Yep, so far most have said that it looks like corrosion on the wall from piston not moving. Which then has probably damaged the oil rings and caused those vertical marks. The longest the engine was still after the rebuild, was the winter of 2018 - 2019, plus the boat trip to Japan. When I shipped the car, it had normal gas in the tank but before that winter pause, it had E85 in tank.  In any case, even if either one of those was the cause, it happened close to 6 years ago and the car has been driven something like 30 000kms after the fact. Again, apart from the plugs and the dip stick, there is nothing in the way the car runs that would indicate what has been going on in the engine. I am going to consult a shop and ask their opinion, what would be the best approach. I do have some access to a garage I could use to diagnose further myself, but time is very restrictive. Might end up buying another engine that could be used while this one is being remedied. Without pulling the head, it will be impossible to find out if it needs another bore, but here's to hoping a hone would suffice.  Goddamnit, I would really have preferred this not happening.
    • Boot is going to be replaced eventually. I just wire brushed what I could and rust converted. Then painted in rust kill primer. the spoiler also got repainted and plugs replaced on the ends. The under side of the bonnet is going to be black also, currently white. But red on the top side, same colour code as the silo to begin.
