Norbie
Hi guys, new member here and new to the Nissan scene (I'm a Toyota guy mostly) so go easy on me. I recently purchased a Toyota Century V12 engine and I'm currently looking for something to put it in. After much thought an R32 GTSt is at the top of the list for a number of reasons, not least of which is the fact they're incredibly cheap now plus there's a broad range of suspension/brake/whatever upgrades available for them. No doubt over the coming months I'll have lots of questions, but for now I'm wondering if anyone has heard of a similar project? A brief Google search turned up that R34 with a quad-turbo Mercedes V12 (looks cool but way more coin than I'd be willing to spend), are there any other V12 Skylines? For anyone who's interested, the engine I have is designated 1GZ-FE and is fitted to the 1998-current Toyota Century. It's a 5.0-litre 60-degree V12, all alloy construction, DOHC 48-valve VVTi, and officially rated at 280ps although I have a feeling the true output is a good deal higher. I happen to own one of these cars and it ran 15.9 @ 90mph at Willowbank raceway; not bad for a bone stock 2000+ kg luxo barge. Info on the Century here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Century Info on the 1GZ here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GZ_engine And here's some detail on one of my previous projects (2JZ into early Supra), just so you know I'm not a n00b who's never done an engine conversion before: http://www.norbie.net/Project2JZ/ Thanks guys, I look forward to hearing any comments or opinions. a20089
Nope not heard of a V12, had a mate that looked at putting a v8 in a GTR but it didn't fit. With a V12 pumping out some serious torque and power, maybe you should look at a GTR shell and running gear. Use 4 wheels to get the power down. Some of the modded GTS-T's have big troubles getting the power down, but with a V12??? funkymonkey
Top Secret has a V12 1GZ-FE powered Supra with turbos and the works. It'll be interesting, but pretty hard work. Easier to do an LS1 swap into an R32 for big numbers, there's a couple running around. There's also this beast: using one of these: a Mercedes Benz 600 S Class engine which has been Quad Turbo'd Configuration : V 12 cylinders Capacity : 6715 cc (89 x 90 mm) Valve actuation : 4 over head camshafts, 48 valves Forced induction : 4 turbochargers Max. power : 1000 horsepower Max. torque : Over 100 kgm Clutch : Multiplate Gearbox : 6 speed sequential Chassis : Multipoint rollcage welded to the shell Suspensions : Double whishbones, KW adjustable shocks Brakes : 381 mm discs (front) 355 mm (rear) Wheels : 13 x 18 magnesium Tires : 345/35-18 Length : 1910 mm Width : 1910 mm Height : 1215 mm Weight : 1000 Kg 0 to 60 mph : 3 seconds Quarter mile : 9 seconds Top speed : 220 mph http://skylinev12.neufblog.com/skylinev12/ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200775-v12-r32/#findComment-3571873 Share on other sites

Norbie
I'm aware I could get the same or better results with other engines, but that's not what this is about; I already have the engine, it just needs a new home. R32 makes sense for a number of reasons. Transmission will be a Tremec TKO600, it's about the only manual transmission that will reliably hold the torque once I strap on a turbo or two. AWD would be nice but way more stuffing around than I'm willing to deal with. This won't be a drag car so 2WD will suffice. Yes I know it will be a lot of hard work, I've done enough engine conversions to know what I'm in for here! Realistically though it won't be very different to any other non-RB engine swap; an LS1 for example would only have the advantage of leaving me a bit more room to play with, but actually fitting the engine/transmission would be the same amount of work. Anyway it's kind of good to know there aren't any other V12 R32's, I like the idea of doing something unique. Norbie
Norbie, you know its a good idea, do it I think it's a good idea too! My Century did 260rwhp on a dyno with an auto transmission and the world's most restrictive exhaust system (4 cats and SEVEN mufflers!) so even without forced induction it should make for a reasonably quick car. With a decent exhaust, manual transmission and a good tune it should be closer to 300rwhp. What does a stock GTSt weigh? Also just to confirm, can anyone tell me what sump layout the RB20 uses? I've been told it's a front sump setup but I need to be certain of this before I make a move; the 1GZ is front sump and changing it would be quite difficult. bubba
~1260-1300kg depending on what year and who you talk to and yes, front sump.. good luck! sounds interesting Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200775-v12-r32/#findComment-3573830 Share on other sites
Norbie
~1260-1300kg depending on what year and who you talk to and yes, front sump.. good luck! sounds interesting Good times! My Supra weighs about the same and ran 12.49 @ 117mph with a bit over 300rwhp. If I could manage similar performance without forced induction I'd be pretty happy. Is there a "top 10" list of NA Skylines somewhere around here? No doubt there's an LS1 monster which has already well surpassed those numbers by now, but it would be interesting to see all the same. VB-
norbie you've defected from SF, your a double agent now lol? from memory the fastest NA was some who used a VH45 and ran 12's while NA, then nitrous got him 11's, then 10's superchaged+NOS Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/200775-v12-r32/#findComment-3604238 Share on other sites
