OK Update: Cat seems fine as mentioned above. Its 3" in and out but dont know anything else about it. If anyone know any details let me know. Is that the ceramic mesh they talk about inside?

Dont mind the WD40 :P

Checked the Spark Plugs and coil pack (which looked like new to be honest), all seemed fine... pic is below, can anyone tell me what condition they are in like if cars too rich/lean or probs with timing etc??

and the main thing is i am 99% sure i have found the problem!!!!!!

Turbotech boost controller locking nut has rattled loose! so... im guessing its letting the pressure out of there hence not controlling boost properly. Will confirm tomorrow after i drive it to work coz i cbf driving now.

It should of been one of the first things i checked god damn it but oh well at least i didnt have to waste $$$

so it looks like it could be the cat

it is laggy i guess but it has always been like that, under 3.5k it is useless even tho it is standard turbo

in case it is the cat, what is recommended? i hear metal cat is the go but lately a lot of people have had theirs fail

Im planning on getting a catco metal cat...so im quite interested how it failed on other ppl?

It is the same diameter as my exhaust system, however u may be right if its talkin about inside diameter

either way i dont think this is my problem as it was fine before with this cat

Take it to a dyno place and get them to load it up (the wastgate) on boost..if the readout shows a drop off of boost throughout the rev range get someone to hold the wasgate shut with there hand and do another run... if it doesnt drop boost theres your problem.

Cheers

Raz

I think the Catco cats with stainless mesh are fine, "Metal cat" is a different brand and supposedly they've had some problems.

^^^ The metalcat cats have been known to collapse on themselves...the catco ones have also had a problem where the whole internal structure comes loose and causes a rattle sound...does not affect performance though unlike the metalcat one...but i have to say that my metal cat works a treat...just hope it stays in one piece....

well it got dynoes at 193rwkw (not where i got it done last time so the 10kw variation is acceptable because of weather/dyno variables etc)

boost tapers off but was assured thats normal for the stock turbo as it wont hold 14psi (not big enough housing)

a couple minor tweaks but yeh basically everything checks out, afr's were a tad lean so they increased to 11.5 or so coz of hot weather

so could just be my head playing with me

    • The R32 suffers from an instrument binnacle that is uncomfortably close to the design of a VN Commodore's. But beyond that, the layout of the rest of everything, and the materials (ie the vinyl coverings on dash, armrest, etc) are acceptable, and the patterns on the fabrics are not as blergh as those in the R33. And R33 seats are....quite unattractive. I know it's only small details there, but I reckon the R33 got worse than the 32. But the big blergh is the overall shape of the dash on the R33. It's just has that whole Maxima/Pulsar sort of look to it. Nothing special at all. Generic Nissan sedan. Whereas, at least the R32 dash/binnacle was different. Less a wide expanse of boringly curved plastic. More a "cockpit" sort of look, even if nowhere near to the degree that the A90 Supras got. R34 seats look good on their own, until you realise that they are indistinguishable from the shape and fabric on 70 other Japanese cars. And the foam bolsters on them suffer even worse than the earlier cars. Other than that I don't really have an opinion the rest of the R34 interior. I took the bits of the R34 I wanted (brakes and engine) and added them to the best external appearance Skyline in the modern era (the 32). So nyerr!
    • Can I be your first customer? I would like hard lines done for the fuel system, 8AN up and 8AN back and the underside wire wheeled and coated (brush or sprayed) with that black tar shit.
    • Speak for yourself, I love the R33 interior. 32 is blergh. I like the 34 interior too. Then you start getting much newer in most cars and they all turn back to blergh. 馃槢
    • 500-600hp into a RB is already 'sinking endless amounts of money' into an engine. Especially a 30 year old engine. Unfortunately this is the RB Game. Considering stock power (or at least stock components) will do ~360whp on 98 by simply turning up the boost on the stock gear on a RB26, that would be where I'd say the cutoff point for "sinking endless amounts of money into the engine" Cause to even do this reliably you'd probably need to replace all the bits anyway cause they're old, starting your sinking journey anyway. I reckon the least painful way is rebuilding the engine to make 50hp over stock lol. The 'plan your ownership around a rebuild' was a common saying 15 years ago.
