Ok so, i have an R33, with a free flowing exhaust, but still manages to pass the noise polution last time it was tested, it's not a loud exhaust by all means when compared to so many other cars or bikes.

I have a baby capsule in the back for my son and generally drive like a grandmaaaa around town. Yess open road is a different story.

Over the past few months it has become increasingly apparent how much other people don't like our cars, IMPORTS and alike.

Two months ago somone tried to break into my car, the alarm went off all day, and no one called the cops. Two weeks later the alarm was false trigered, and no one called me or the cops. I returned to the car only to recive a rather rude note, stating that if the alarm was to go off once more, the car would be torched.

I park at battery point every morning, about 7:30 every day. I don't speed as it is a 40 zone, plus dam narow lanes. So i pull up to my ususal spot, as usual, the times counts for 5 seconds, the car shuts off, i do all my ususal stereo face off ect. I get out and an elderly man, ealry 70's, is waiting for me.

So the conversation basically starts like this.

Him: " Must you park that incicious thing here" (ps no idea what that word means)

Me: "Excuse me"

Him: "Every morning i wake up, i don't even set my alarm any more"

Me: "Appologies"

The conversation then goes on to basically tell me that the car is so loud and so forth, that i must have replaced my exhaust with a quote" NOISE MAKER" ect. He then procedes to tell me how he can hear me tear off in the afternnoon up the road ect. Yeah because in a COLD turbo engine the first thing you do when you start it is thrash the shit out of it.

I then proceed to state that the car is road legal, meets all ADR and tasmanian regulations as listed on the copmpliance plate ect. Hence the car is legal and will continue to be driven.

The conversation went on for a bit more and stoped fairly quickly after i showed hiom the baby seat in the back, upon which i appologised once again and went on my meary way.

Now i don't do anything to provoke these guys, i pull in nice an quiet, never rev my engine and so forth.

One spot up from me a great V8 parks which is next to defening (trust me i hear it every morning as it pulls up), but my car is still louder.

Why is it that in todays society, so many people simply hate our cars and the younger generation who have pasion and drive to make their machines as good as they can be.

Now i would understand the gentelmans concern if the car was loud but it is not loud by any means, the pufter valve makes more noise then the exhaust.

So this afternoon i am expecting some slashed tires and a burnt out shell.

So what the hell is it, Sorry but i jsut had to vent.

Jeez man... They don't like you very much...

I haven't really had any issues.... had a bloke (old pisshead looking fella) tell me "nice car mate" yesterday as I was leaving the local shops (he did have a 6pack of bundy under one arm and an open longy)

Hellies in his front lawn will show hiM!

Na seriously if it bothers you and him so much put a restrictor in the cannon for work driving and for open road remove it.. just use a paper clip to hold it in because its not like you want a bolt removed etc takes to much time..

anyways just an idea

In chatswood I have an old fart telling me he likes my "hotrod" and to be careful every morning, abit of a legend ;) no one dares to comment on the noise (cause people in sydney see a black skyline and wont even pull up beside it now) and I do put it in neutral when im going down streets to drop the volume.

lol its cause we live in australia so australians should drive aussie cars i.e ford n holden (not my opionion) well that some ppl think..... dont worry another 20 years n all the bogans of the 80 will be dead and generation Y will rule the roads with imports. most holden drivers hate rice burners, me personally i like them (except for rotory powered cars hate them)

"Why Do So Many People Hate Our Cars"?

two words:

The Media

Read the papers, listen to the radio, watch the TV... loud/modified/low/jap -car = hoon

lol let it alll out

should trade ur skyline for a harley davison

On that note, how on earth are Harley's and other loud bikes considered road legal? They are easily the loudest motorised transport available and can be quite deafening when up close.

p.s. i'm not complaining about how loud bikes are, i'm complaining about the apparent discrepancy between noise levels of cars and bikes.

ive never had any negative comments about my car, from young or old. and my exhaust is on the loud side. in fact i had a few old guys compliment it. i guess my driving/car/attitude doesnt make them fear for their lives.

on the other hand, i had a 32 pull into my street one night. i guess they were friends of neighbours. windows down, music blaring, abnoxiously loud exhaust, two good for nothing, trouble looking, well tanned fellas (dont wanna be racist here) get out, leave the car entirely unlocked with timer going and music still blaring. this is way out of place in my street. i felt like going over and telling them to fark off out of here. its not the car, its the way they use it.

    • 2 more things I have to work out Easy one first...can anyone describe how to pull the fuel pump and sender from a 33? I can feel there is some sort of mount and clips but don't have a manual and don't know the trick......if not I'll spend some quality time in the boot witha lighter tomorrow. Second question is harder.  He had changed the upper plenum to a plazmaman but clearly got to a point with the vacuum hoses where he said "f**k it, I'm going inside for a beer" and never came back to that job because it was a mess. Am I right to think that I need: 1. Pre throttle (16mm nipple on inlet) to AAC's main 20mm fitting as the main pre throttle feed 2. ACC has a second 13m outlet joined to that 20mm fitting which I think is the pre throttle air supply for the cold start valve? 3. Cold start valve's outlet fitting then goes to Plenum (to bypass throttle?) There is some adapter on the back of the ACC with 2 fittings (13mm and 10mm), do I run the 10mm through a 1 way valve to the Brake Booster (4) and the 13mm back to a 13mm nipple on the Plenum as the Idle control (5)? 6. Run a 6mm vacuum line from the Turbosmart BOV to the Plenum? 7. Run a 5mm vacuum line from the Fuel Pressure Reg to the Plenum? 8. Run a 5mm vacuum line from the Turbosmart Boost controller to the Plenum? (Wastegate already has a pre turbo pressure source running to the solenoid then the wastegate on the other side of the bay)  Any help appreciated, the GTR is quite different setup and while the Stagea also has FFP it is different again. (And no Dose, I'm not pissing it all off and putting a ethrottle on it....)
    • OK, onto some questions to try and speed up the process a little. Does anyone know what core this Garret is? I know it is a high flowed standard turbo but nothing else about it. Tag says OK 0169J - 446179-5032 Same question for the injectors, I don't know what they flow and ideally can work it out before it hits the dyno, they are a mustard yellow side feed
    • Quick side trip into the engine externals, alternator and PS were in place including tensioned belts, but the PS was dry (my guess is he had the steering rack reco-ed). Filled it up with Transmax Z but it will need more bleeding once the engine is running no doubt. BTW I've said before, I don't know what kind of soft animals you have in the city, but out here they breed the rats tough. I bet they were disappointed when they tasted synthetic ATF.... Coilpacks are Splitfires with a factory loom in reasonable condition. I didn't pull one put I bet the spark plugs are new as its a new engine
    • Onto intake pressure test. I have a Raceworks (damn brand thieves!) pressure test adapter that lets you apply pressure through a standard tyre valve and comes with a pressure gauge.....I just blocked off the other end immediately before the throttle body. Applied 30psi....and the turbo intake immediately popped off with a bang. Sorted that but it was still leaking, turns out there is a pinhole leak at the BOV adapter that I'll have to find a local place to TIG up. I'm sure it makes SFA difference with such a small leak but I want it to be right. Everything else up to the throttle body was good. Also cleaned and oiled the KNX cone filter, and this is the AFM if anyone can identify it (car runs a PowerFC)
    • I'll send you a message, but until I know what is OK (and anything that isn't) its kind of hard to work out a fair price. BTW I'm just helping out here, ultimately it is Mel's call what she accepts but I know it will go sooner or later.
