So I don't see too many skylines on the list? What's everybody else's excuses?

I just faxed my form off but thought I'd ask everybody what sort of times are respectable around winton. I stuck down a conservative 1:50 for the old datto but would be dissapointed if I didn't go quicker than that. What sort of times should I be looking fore?

EDIT: Congrats Chris on the bub chris!

Weather was perfect. I even got a bit sunburnt.

The small numbers meant that you could pretty much do as much driving as you liked towards the end of the day.

It was a shame to see some poor bloke smash his R33 GTR on one of the last sessions of the day. It had some pretty heavy damage and definitely needed a trailer home.

Results are up: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results..../2008.WIN.S14.Y

Well done to Archie with a P.B of 1:37.0, awesome result making him 3rd fastest on the day...

Congrats to those who competed...

Great weather and the car didn't break so all in all a sucessfull day.

Jack thanks for the advice over the phone to help me improve my times. The Stig is always there is spirit :D

It was my second outing with the first one lasting 7 laps and a broken engine a few years ago.

She was getting a bit hot though so i could only get in 3 laps before i had to back off and come into the pits.

There's definitely more in the car I just need to get more track time under my belt.

That's a real shame re the 33 as it was a nice looking neat car too. I left early and knew nothing of it. Here's hoping the repair bill ain't that bad.

gotta love winton. Such a good little track! I had a blast out there and got more than enough runs in. Nothing broke except for my pos boost controller, so i got an average of 7psi for the day and still beat my dutton time. Shows what a lot of laps will do, especially there!

You would hardly know Sau went to the rex days by looking at the turnout. Was good to meet Steve in the RX8 while doing the DT. Hopefully we'll be seeing you guys at future events.

Had a really good day, good work by the organisers, the event ran through the day perfectly.

Made me want my car finished even more now that the season is all back up and running...

Any hoo... once I recovered from the ride up in Frysie's car i set about getting some footage.

I've thrown together a bit of a clip with some of the days action...

Some bits are a bit rushed but you get the idea :P

Enjoy

MaT

How pumped up are Dave's arms after piloting the Datto? :(

That has inspired me...just rang Racepace :P Bring on being homeless and sleeping in the streets, Ol Silver will ride again :)

It is a handfull. And lets face it, driving a datsun is cheaper than a gym membership these days!

    • Just came across this, but in QLD I start leave again in 2 weeks, if it is still available I might drive up and check it out Unless, @MBS206 do you live near here????, if so I could hit you up with a finders fee https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/hope-island/auto-body-parts/nc-mx5-factory-hard-top/1328976391
    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
