ok i cleand the inside of it out and tried again.. the engine seems to turn over, but doesnt start... I am only guessing that this thing is the problem, can someone confirm this before i start looking for this part...

if it is this at fault.. would all jap sell them.. if not, who else would?

I think i would only need the part that spins around, not the whole thing.

its the variable cam timing unit. (i think thats what its called).

how the hell did the locating pin snap off?

you best bet is a jap wrecker.

how did i snap it off??

I realy dont know..

I took it off to paint the cam belt cover with some left over paint from my boot lid.. I put it back on.. lined it up, and it slipped in perfectly, tightened all bolts,... went to turn my car on to move it back into a sunny spot to tack sum engine bay shots and the car didnt start.

thats the only thing i could think of that could go wrong.. so i undid it all to take a look and noticed the pin was snapped off

It's the CAS = Crank Angle Sensor.    Not really clear what's broken off from the photo's.   Shouldn't be too hard to get one from a wrecker.  If you really get stuck I think I've got a spare somewhere, but I'm in melbourne.

the thing that is broken off is the little metal thing laying on the "cas" in the second photo. it broke off from inside the ??? hole :uh-huh:

so would this be the reason why the car wont start?

Yes...it tells the ECU info about injector an ignition firing points/crank position. Somethings obviously not lining up properly any longer. The internally splined 'shaft' engages with similar shaft bolted to the end of the ex camshaft. If it's not in the right position, then ign timing etc will be out.....
