My car then turned into a heap of junk and kept stalling. But I never hit anything. I thought it might have been something to do with the heat at first (41 degree day). Everytime I came to a stop or slowed down for a corner the idle would drop and stall. Nearly crashed a couple times (try steering with the engine off!). I also heard a lot of 'bump bump bump thud' noises...I thought something was stuck under the car. But I think it was actually backfire (didn't sound good at all. Kinda like some banging at your undercarriage with a sledgehammer).

When I had a thorough look under the car I noticed some sort of cable/line snapped off the catalytic converter and was just dangling. It's been massively warped from being dragged along the road. I know I'll have to take it to an exhaust place to fix. But my question is...

Whats the purpose of this line/cable? Would this cause any other problems to my car? I took a picture but I won't be able to post it until tomorrow.

Any help would be great.

Thanks guys.

Hey mate I've had that exact same thing happen, the cable in question is just your thermostat so don't worry about that. For me it turned out to be a boost leak, ie the noise was the piping getting knocked out of place, hope that helps. Check all your piping.

Should try to be informative/helpful for once, instead of "belittling" people who are less knowledgeable as you.

The cable is just a cat. "over-temp" sensor, nothing to be too concerned about. If there is no provisions to fit the sensor in your cat, just tuck it in one of the holes in the chassis rail.

I find it hard to understand why you persisted to drive the car, even though something was obviously wrong. Sounds like a cooler pipe, but if it was something more serious, you could have been up for a new engine. You obviously have limited mechanical knowledge, so best to take it to a mechanic to get it fixed and possibly replace the plugs.

Im positive to the vacuumleak to, but also, maybe a shot lambda?

Also, as far as i know, doesnt the ecu now give the engine more fuel as a safetymessure, since it cant read the cat-temp (if the cat-temp indicates to high temp, the timing will be sat back) ?

Cheers for the name correction Al, I know what it is but not the name obviously as I've gone through all that this guy has.

GTST I've noticed in quite a few threads that you like to troll a fair bit and make fun of others without really helping out, grow up mate.
