I'm planning a cruise to the Red Cross Blood Donor Centre - Modbury. (Food and drinks provided)

Arrive between 5:30 and 6:30 on Thursday the 1st May

Just wondering how many of us give blood or would give it a try.

Stats show that many/most of us at some stage will require blood or blood products. As motoring enthusiasts we also put ourselves at a higher risk should things go wrong even if it isn’t our fault. (i.e. Drew's crash in 2006)

I'd like to get as many people from SAU and their friends/family to come on a cruise and or meet up at a blood centre and donate blood.

As enthusiasts in fast cars we often cop a lot of unwarranted attention, this is one way we can show the community that we aren’t all hoons. I believe I can get some coverage in the Sunday Mail, and possibly the Advertiser (if we get enough people I'll try radio and TV),

In addition to a cruise, food and drinks you walk away knowing you did a good deed, and that if you ever need blood or blood products that there are people in the community that donate.

Date for the cruise will be towards the end of February early March and will depend on the number of people. We can make a group booking so as to make sure there are enough staff to meet our needs.

Sounds like a really good idea but would people be able to drive shortly after giving blood? My mum gives blood regularly and sometimes feels ill afterwards and has to lay down for a while. I've picked her up a few times.

Just asking as I really don't know.

Everyone is different, but I often give blood and haven’t had that feeling.

For those who haven’t been before, after you give blood you go to the lounge and help yourself to drinks, sandwiches, cake and biscuits. With a group of us there you sit, drink, talk etc then head out perhaps 20-30 min later (there is no rush) and you'll feel fine.

I am happy to taxi anyone home (in my car or theirs) who feels they cant/shouldn’t drive, and cars could be garaged at my place if needed.

im up for that as i can give blood now cause its been a year since my last tattoo and its good if i do cause im o+ and there isnt much of that around so count me in but needs to be befor my next tattoo lol

Great idea, but I gave blood monday just gone so I have to wait 10 weeks now! LOL

I often give blood and only once have I ever felt light headed. They only recommend that you dont operate machinery or puplic transport etc. If this is in more than 10 weeks time, I'll be up for it for my next regular donation :P

im up for it. :D

I keep meaning to donate blood but I dont know what my blood type is and I had a tetanus injection 3 weeks ago... will that matter? If not, put me down (just remember to PM me when its close cause I have a mind like a sieve)

-D

Thanks for the quick replies and positive responses.

Even if you cant give blood (for whatever reason/s - I have no problems with this, not everyone can) come and support those who can. (free food and drinks are available to guests and donors :D )

hey we are up for the cruise but neither of us can give blood as we are both english and were in the uk in 1996 which is when foot and mouth was diagnosed. Explains alot haha

Oh and needles scare the shit outta me haha

Kye

Im in the same boat, not sure when i last got tattooed so possibly up for the cruise but wont be able to donate.

Ok, spoke to the Red Cross, and Saturdays are booked out for a while, they do Tuesday and Thursday nights (last appointments 7:45pm, out I guess by 8:30-9:00.)

Are you guys available on Tuesdays or Thursdays? let me know and I'll book us in. (Could go as early as the 31st January, or when suits the group)

    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
    • Not required but appreciated. Super Coppermix Twin even the non-competition model feels like the pedal is noticeably heavier than stock which was pretty well judged IMO. I'll be swapping in the Nismo operating cylinder soon to see how that feels.  Personally I haven't felt anything that justifies replacing the damping loop, at least compared to more modern stuff where the clutch delay valve is actually quite noticeable.
