gday, i brought a GT-T over from Japan a few months ago which had an amp and subbies installed (see pic below). question i have is, are those speakers actually 'subwoofers'? They produce a heap of bass so obviously that is their function but they have no cone (the other side you cannot see is just flat metal).

reason I ask is that the previous owner had them installed in the drivers seat (lol!). anyway i wasn't too fond of driving around with a boner all day so ripped em out but i'm tempted now to put them in the boot.

my audio knowledge is piss weak but I understand that subbies etc do need some sort of enclosure to work properley. if i mount these things behind the rear seats as-is am i wasting my time? if it's going to require fabricating a box or anything I won't bother.

cheers

EDIT: did a bit of reading and am wondering if these things are actually 'tactile transducers'? (basically a device which emits a vibration and is bolted to a drivers seat, couch etc for the person to feel - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactile_transducer)

your resaerch is correct. they are meant for cars with no room. alpine did them in the late 90s. nail them to a seat/floor and you had bass (or rattles :( )

ah thats a shame, i guess they are of no use to me then (except maybe as a way to freak out passengers :P )

thanks anyway
