Running In Rb26 After Blowing In Headgasket

Hey guys, i just replaced the headgasket in my 26, done a clean/flowtest on injectors, new waterpump timing belt and bearings all replaced, new sparks, and all gaskets on head have been replaced....

Now i need to know whats the best way to run it it, and what oils to use and for how long a duration before using the good stuff?

Also is it a good idea to re-torque the head after around 1000kms to make sure they havent gone out of wack slightly?

as far as i know there is no need to run in a head, the main reason engines are run in is to bed the rings but no such interface exists in a head. some head gaskets require retorquing, others don't, just go with the manufacturers rec.

So i can drive the car as per usual without needing to run it in at all? I hear mixed stories thats all.....

make sure you DO NOT USE COOLANT when you are first running the engine. let it warm up and drive it and get it all up to operating condition b4 you put coolant in. if you use coolant , the coolant soaks between the head gasket block and head and as it will dry up and have sealing issues later on. other then that drive as normal..

After you have driven the car for about a week or so then you drain the water and replace with coolant . all will be good

Thanks for the heads up, so i don't need to use any special thin running in oil when only a headgasket was replaced???thats what i thought i'd have to do....if not ive got some really good oil/filter that i can use straight away:)

AFAIK running in is only required to bed new piston rings in..

Thanks guys - i guess i can save some $$$ by not having to buy run in oil then......

P.s: this will be my 1st oil change for the gtr, does it hold the same amount of oil as the 25t's?, i use to fill around 4.5l on my old r33 gtst....

I believe GTST is 4.5, GTR is 4.7 and N1 is 5.1L

I wouldnt try the no coolant trick, alloy head is far too sensitive for that. Just dont drive it too hard for the first few klms so oil builds up on the new seals

Thanks again, at least i know now that i dont need to use run in oil, yeah i was thinking 1000kms of just nanna driving the car for now....
