:P GTST...

Probably only the second or third post from someone else in this thread that has true merit. People get so caught up wanking over their own car that they forget about everything else, and no matter what, nothing is better than what Nissan make and if its not Nissan, its not good.

I have shown various people this thread who come from all Automotive backgrounds and they cannot believe the responses that some people have posted on here. People have been acting like 5 year old kids. There's good things about most cars that you need to see.

Just because in the past when a R32 was produced the same time as a VL/VN commodore, and technology & quality may have been at a minimum, it doesnt mean that every other model from then on in is going to be the same.

Obviously people can see that yes, I drive a Skyline and I am still a fan of Holdens. I chose to drive a Skyline for different reasons than buying a commodore (have owned a VX SS & VN SS) but I haven't let a badge nor ignorance stop me from chosing what I enjoy for whats practical for me at this stage of my life.

I WILL try and stay away from this thread now :D

Wow.. the RB uses DOHC and 24 valves blah blah...

Holden uses dinosour technology.

still.

they sell more than anything nissan make.

they make more power than anything nissan make (up until the R35 GTR)

On that subject DOHC can be classed as dinosaur technology aswell, having been around for almost 100 years.

It's just most Jap sports cars adopted it later on, giving the false impression that it's newer. Although I can't see anything wrong with pushrods.

GM actually had a DOHC V8 back in the early 90s for the Corvette, but it apparently turned out to be a flop, so they switched back.

No no no... HSV is like the tuning company for Holden so it'll be like comparing a HSV GTS to like a Nismo tuned GTR, then GTR to SS and standard Holden with the GTS-t.
Good points dude.

I'm back

Good points within reason. HSV could do a lot more with their cars. There has been talk for ages that they will be bringing out the LS7 in the GTS. Whether or not it happens is another thing. Nismo go fairly all out with their cars. Not to mention the price you would pay for such a tuned car.

When you're charging the amount that is charged for a GTR + NISMO specs, a car that is $70k from HSV would be something like half the price of something talked about? The only real similarity is they are both performance divisions of a certain manufacturer. You also have to look at the budgets both companies have?

the banner wavers are out numbering the car enthusist 10 to 1 atm

On a Skyline-based forum your bound to have those who dont like certain other cars... Just because there are some who dont like Holdens doesnt mean they are a banner waver. I like every other car but absolutely hate Holden and consider myself an enthusiast - I absolutely love my car, I like getting hands on tinkering around with the car modifying it cleaning it etc, I like interacting with fellow enthusiast of Skylines and other makes and respect their choices..... and so forth.

http://hobbies.expertvillage.com/experts/d...-enthusiast.htm

I have asked the question hundreds of times, "Why are you a car guy? What made you a car guy?" And it's funny how people have a hard time answering that. Usually it comes from some sort of influence - their dad, their mom, their older brother their uncle - somebody stimulated their interest in cars. And it usually happens in early age, but not always. Sometimes, someone says, "I was never into cars, but I watched your show or I went to a couple of car shows, and now I'm getting ready to buy a car and I love it." So it can happen at a later age, but generally it starts at an early age.

A car enthusiast is somebody who has an unusual preoccupation with their car, wants to spend time with that car, wants to bathe the car, wants to love it, wants to make it look as good as it can possibly look, and go as fast as it can go. The hobby breaks up into two directions: either they want to make the car exactly original, the way it was when it was brand new, or they want to customize it and personalize it in some fashion. In either case they spend a large amount of their discretionary time with their car.

They are fixated on their cars and love to be with car guys and share their stories - why they did this or that. They love to take the car and drive it either to a car show or just down the street and have people giving them the thumbs up signs and saying how cool their car is. It becomes a part of their personality.

A lot of times, their favorite car was their first car when they were teenagers and they have some wonderful memories associated with that car. My favorite car is a '57 Chevy, and it happens that was the first car I had when I was 16. I learned to drive in that car and all my first driving experience is in that car. When I get in a '57 Chevy all the memories come back and I feel 16 again.

So there are all kinds of reasons why people, girls and guys, become car enthusiasts. But the defining element is that cars get them so excited and they just can't spend enough time working on them and loving them. For instance, someone who is not a car enthusiast looks at waxing the car as work. For the car enthusiast, it's fun.

A car enthusiast is someone who when they get really strung out and really uptight they go their garage, they pull up a chair and sit down and just stare at the lines of one of their favorite cars. They just admire the styling of the car and it settles them down. It takes another car guy to understand that and that's why they like to hang out together.

I know that I bagged out Holden before, I didnt really re-read my post.

I have owned a VX SS, now the car was comfy to drive sounded tough and was a dream on long drives, so really there wasnt anything I disliked about the car come to think of it. The only issue I has was IF i wanted to modify it I would void my warranty. The car cost me 30k when i got it and still had new car warrenty on it and i didnt want to loose that so i kept it stock.

When I got rid of it and got my skyline i was surprised at the 12k cost of the car and after 5-8k work how quick it went.

But If i had 3 kids to carry around with me, id say a skyline isnt practicle for it. With 2 doors, its not impossible just impracticle.

On the performance side ive seen some rather quick holdens and fords at the track and 1/4 mile. The main thing that pisses me off is their arrogence to import owners, and that is what makes people like myself stale to holden and ford owners. Now not all H n F owners are like that but ive seen alot more of the Holden owners sAfrican American and make comments about my skyline more so then ive seen other import drivers ripping on holdens.

GTST Its good to see someone with the facts. Like you as a fun car and one to play around with id rather my skyline over a commodore but for a family car id rather a ford/holden.......................

or a R34 GT-T :(

Definately the value for money factor was very strong when I bought my R32. I wasn't looking at spending a whole heap of money on a car and to be honest, couldnt really find something that suited my needs for the same price. I got out of V8's for something different and so far I havent even thought about what my next car is because I'm enjoying it so much!

I was just very disheartened to hear the opinions of some people on here when I enjoy owning my Skyline so much! I suppose the arrogance thing pisses us all off and this thread is a very good example of the other side doing the same thing back, nothings going to change so I'm not going to feed the fire in here anymore...

No one has to like everything. Its called "acceptance" to be able to appreciate other peoples morals, tastes & opinions. I can compare it to a football team I support in the English Premier League. The team I go for is rival with one of my best mates teams. I enjoy watching the rival team play because they play great football, but I hate their guts comparable to some people in this debate.

Respect I guess is what it comes down to...

why not do what most people do... if your going to compare on general points ... over all etc... compare what your get for what level of $$$... with a general aim in mind. you cdan ofcoarse nit pick and call everything apples and oranges... but at the end of the day the deciding factor is what you get for your $$.

50k range etc... 80k range etc... remember what gtr's cost brand new ? No? look it up... google > that way... look at what you get for your hsv or FPV options included (6 pot fronts 4 pot rears etc) and compare to something you could get in that price range.... age should also be a factor here...

personally I like to drive... the more performance I get out of a vehicle the more I tend to enjoy it... but thats for fun..

best thing about owning a holden is the parts are cheap 2 buy. n parts are really easy to find.. did u know that old holdens are lighter then skyline my sl vl only ways 1182kg stock n is proerply lighter with the power steering n aircon systems gone...... so i dont know why every1 is calling em big n heavy.. only the late model commodores are getting evier n even so there only 1600-1700kgs isint that similar to a gtr????

you too own a skyline in reality. lol

ROFL Holden + Research... Right.. They just copied information and designs from other cars, HOLDENS new BMW inspired VE.. Really Holden's are shithouse they are poorly built and wow lets all put a BIGGER engine in when we want to make powe.. f**k the technology of the time we need bigger.

yeah, kinda like how the put a bigger motor in the r33 hey?

Soon it will be OMFG ITS A 500HP COMMONWHORE WITH A f**kING 9 LITRE v8... I cannot remember the last time ive seen a STOCK holden pull any less then 14 on the 1/4. Lets sink 5k into it and get a 13 or 13.5 shall we? Stock GTRS for the same money (With Better Tech and Handling.. Oh f**k it its a better car) runs 12's sink 5k into it and get 12.3's. The only thing that holdens are is Cheap bogan powerhouses that for 70k u can have the TOP of the line model thats not really that great anyway. You are just paying for the HSV bullshit. When ever i see the "HSV I just want one" i say f**k OFF no i dont..

EDIT- and before you say What do you know you most likely have not even driven said cars, I have driven the GTS, Clubsport and the new Maloo.. Why? Because I WAS going to buy one until i found out how disappointing they were to drive. I went and drove a 310awkw 32gtr and it was a hands down win, thus i have purchased that instead. Oh and it didnt cost me no where near as much.

your narrow mind amazing me... in all of that rant, did you ever stop to consider the two cars your comparing and their pupose for being built. Your 310kw at the wheel gtr might haul ass, clap clap well done. The HSV might be slower, whoopidy do.

When i drive on the highway for 7+ hours i know which one i would rather take on the trip. The one thats designed to sit 5 with ease, travel through bumps not hop over them, the one that can seemlessly over take in any gear using its torque. Thats what most hsvs are made for. You can also put your luggage in the boot! ... more then one sports bag that is

Once again your stupidty amazes me. Compare the GTR with the RX7, supra, NSX. Thats what its meant to compete with, cars in the same catagorys. Not aussie saloons you wang

wow... this thread brought out all the f**kwits.

What even funnier than some peoples posts are the cars in their profiles.

people with $8K AUTO R32 GTST's (who obviously believe their cars are worth $18K the damn dreamers), going on about how bad these new holdens handle.

Couple of facts you blinkered up knobs..

1.) LS1 weighs less than RB20/25

2.) LS1 produces more power than RB20/25

3.) LS1 produces more Torque than RB20/25

4.) LS1 uses LESS fuel to produce that power than RB20/25

5.) LS1 is a more compact design, which sits further back in the engine bay giving better weight distribution than RB20/25

6.) LS1 has a better emmision rating than RB20/25

7.) LS1 costs LESS than an RB25 (the boat anchor RB20 is probably cheaper than LS1 - yay for the skylines)

Did you know that suspension has come a LOOOOONG way since 1989 when your nugget was made?

Did you know that, Just like TEIN for your skyline, there are other companies that can "upgrade" Holden suspension?

I personally DON'T like Holdens. I would not buy one.

They are too big for my liking.

I can however, appreciate them.

f**k some of you clowns are narrow minded.

and it's mainly the newer members.

There is a place for people like you.

It's called NS.com or Boostcruising.com - f**k off over there.

i thought id add something to this topic now. when i was younger i loved v8's and actually liked holdens and fords. i still love v8's because you have to admit they sound great but i have been turned off holdens for a few years now and mainly because of the drivers around my area with the way they drive them thinking they are the best car ever. plus a couple of my mates own them and i love to argue with them about it lol. but im not saying they are crap cars or anything i think its mainly the people who drive them turned me off. but you could say the same with alot of cars as well, especially skylines, im sure there are some people out there that act the same as the holden guys as well. anyway i dont mind the look of some of there cars i do like the hsv gts coupe that had the 300kw engine that was nice but im not a fan of the new holden though. So lets see what the new ford will look like.

ps. GO JAP CARS. ;)
