As opposed to a WRX / EVO etc that are quick to 100km/h or whose quarter mile time is flattered with acceleration to 60km/h because of AWD traction, but are dogs with no pull after 120km/h through to 240km/h.

They are just different sorts of cars, thats all. The cars that you are saying are SLOW would be rockets from 100km/h to 250+ km/h. Personally i would rather a car with the grunt to push it through the air at high speed so is a ball of fun when i go to the track. Rather then a car with flattering times because of traction.

How many STI/Evos have you driven/raced door to door against? My car club runs its championship with the WRX club of Victoria, and we have a class for WRC cars. So i share a bit of time with these cars at various tracks.

Im by no means an expert, or claiming to be 1000% right. If you look hard enough you can find any number of cars to prove a point, so well done on posting a completely irrelevant youtube video. But claiming my opinion is "rubbish" or ridiculous?

My point was i havde come out of corners bumper to bumper with STI/Evos at Sandown and Phillip Island. My experience is i walk away from STIs and EVos down the straights. To be in my group, they generally have between 200-240awks and they are scary fast up until 120km/h where the gearing, power delivery and weigtht all make them quicker then my car. But get them on to the long straights and i pull them in or pull away from them as my car is quicker in the top end. In all the track days i have done i can only generally think iof 1 STI that is quicker then me and able to pass me in a straight line. The scary thing is many of them do similar times to me....its only they make time in completely different parts of the track. But its definitely not on the long haul through 4th and 5th gears up past 160km/h.

So call it what you want....but you cant call it rubbish. their low speed traction is flattering to the overall pace of the car. Anyway...

My friend works on a Lamborghini VT Diablo here in town, up to about 100km/h its nothing too flash and most slightly modified cars would destroy it from a set of traffic lights, however once it starts getting past that speed into its top end its got unbelivable torque and keeps climbing to 270+ where most cars start dying past 220.

Different cars made for different purposes at the end of the day. Guess that pretty much sums up the point of this thread completely.

Yeah its bullshit that they hassle us, I dont understand it. They keep adding more power shitter fuel economy and more weight so it just evens itself out. Still runs a 13 second pass so they still cant get things right. I work for them and know how much shortcuts they take thats why the VE is such shit build quality half the parts are made from korea, Anyway not going to rant about them as im not biased but still with that much power you would expect the thing to move and not pay $40 of petrol to get down the street.

Given that you are from Melbourne, i assume you work at the engine plant. If that is true, what would you know about the build quality of a VE? Any random bogan walking down the street in Brisbane or Perth probably knows more about the build quality and process of the VE than you do. I worked at the Elizabeth plant and have driven hundreds of these things ranging from bog standard Omegas, through to GTS/Senators, right up to the best you can get, the SS Caprice and Caprice Royale that go to the middle east. The build quality is excellent, keeping in mind this is a mass produced family sedan, and it is still in series 1. The chassis and engineering underpinning the VE is very solid, and they handle excellently, as any one of 50 magazines attest to, and can take mass HP no problem. What more do you want from a family sedan? The SS ute and sedan are absolute weapons even before tweaking them. On average, the SS is making ~290kw at the engine (~230rwkw), straight from the factory, quite a bit more than what Holden quote. Exhaust, CAI, retune, a nice easy 330+kw.

Don't knock the VE, particularly the V8's, until you've driven one for a while. Sure, it's no GTR (i had a 32 GTR), but then, it was never meant to be. The new Camaro is based on the VE architecture. Forget the VT-VZ, the VE is a different beast entirely.
