Anything Travelling at decent speed to catch up in my opinon is enough to be a cop, Licence plates with no dealership number or details is a cop, Ariels in strange places, Stock "performance" wheels = cop, Glowing interior from hud of pc screen = cop.

List goes on and on, dont drive like a dick dont face penalties, or take ur chances when your smart enough.

If they impound a car which is related to drugs and so on, crime etc they can keep the car.. If its a nice one concider it on the way to patrol us.

It's not unusual to see plain clothes po-po in hipo debadged cars. Locally there is a dark blue XR6 turbo with the badges removed, with no visible lights on the dash or rear parcel shelf. Has the aerials and a unit bolted to the dash that is near the steering wheel.

A few times I have seen it with a uniform driving and 2 plain clothes in the rear. Always the same guys. They used to sit in our court and watch the happenings in the court across the way.

The cops were running unmarked CBR1000RRRRRRs in NSW last year. Pretty sure they tried them in Vic as well

Nothing unusual, the UK has a huge assortment of modified unmarked and marked performance cars. Cosworths, Evos, WRX's, modified BMW's, Range Rover Sport's etc.

Displaying P plates is distasteful though as they should be displayed to make other drivers aware of their potential actions. All for them having undercover cars to catch the idiots who want to race them but p plates are issued for a reason and shouldnt be made a mockery of.

Incidently I was reading the impounding stats in Saturday's Herald Sun and good to see the vast majority are falcadores and hopefully showing the authorities where the attention needs to be directed. Wonder if they will start driving pink VL's with gauges on the bonnet soon.

my old man was drivin my car bout 3 years ago we got pulled over and the coppa told us that we could lose a point and get a fine for displayin p plates whilst on full licence unless they changed it but im pretty sure its still an offence

I was pulled over by an unmarked unit that had no lights or radio aerials on it, they just had a sign that said "pollice pull over" which they flashed when they pulled along side.

whilst working at Honda we had about 3 or 4 unmarked cop cars come threw, a couple of integra type r's which had no ariels or anything visable but had hidden buttons and sirions, and there was an s2000 as well. Most of the contracts go to aust bult cars hence why most cop cars and ford's holdens and mitsi's, most their temp cars are mitsi's when the others are at the shop. They do it to keep the profits in the Aust market which is why there are some random undercover cars but most are the standard ones.

As for the WRX's i always though it was cause they kept on killing the engines, and few people have joked at the fact that the seats are too small for the adverage police officer but the speedo issue seems a lot more belieable.

Fact of the matter is most cop cars are obvious by how they drive, i had one follow me yesterday which i assumed was a cop, changed from right lane to middle and he followed behind me, then a little later a changed into the left lane close enough in front of a car that it would be a struggle to squeze in between me and the car behind me, then the cop car quickly changed behind me, i was doing the speed limit and he followed me for ages but didn't pull me over cause i did nothing wrong.

Drive safe on the streets and you got nothing to worry about, leave it to the track i say.

It's not new. Back in the 60s, NSW police used Mini Cooper Ss, and they also used XY GTs dressed as Futura 500s.

A few years ago, I spied a WRX sitting up in a cutting waiting to pounce on unsuspecting speedsters near Lake Nilacootie (near Benalia).

my old mans mate use to spice up the wrx'x in the mid 90's for the cops, just zorst, firmer suspension set up and blacking out the windows. some useless info for yall!

"Recent media reports have referred to a particular police taskforce, ‘Operation Sibu’,

that investigated infringement notices issued by police driving Subaru vehicles. The media reports have also

referred to a subsequent related matter involving 20 police vehicles identifi ed as having faulty speedometers.

It is important that any discussion of these matters be based on accurate information."

"In late 1999, NSW Police purchased three Subaru WRX vehicles following a three month trial of the vehicles.

An external company initially certifi ed the speedometers in all three vehicles as accurate, meaning they could

be used for speed enforcement duties.

Shortly after the vehicles became operational, signifi cant errors in the accuracy of their speedometers

were identifi ed. This meant that highway patrol offi cers could not be confi dent of the accuracy of speed

infringement notices issued while driving these vehicles. Therefore, in recognition of this problem, directions

were issued by commanders and supervisors to remove these three vehicles from speed enforcement.

Despite these directions, some offi cers continued to use the vehicles to police speed limits and a number

of infringement notices were issued. When senior offi cers realised that the vehicles were still being used to

issue infringement notices, inquiries were undertaken to identify affected motorists.

This resulted in the refund of 530 fines."

Just dont speed, and plus we all know its like 98% new aussie cars so if you get done otherwise and you happen to be speeding then your pretty unlucky,

oh please, just don't speed, what a crock. Everyone does, 99.98% of cars I see every morning and evening are speeding and even the ones that do sit at the limit end up going over at some stage and that's in light - med traffic. Are there giant piles of burning cars? Are hundreds dead? No, just a bunch of people got to work on time.

Don't you love 2 of the 'hoodlum' activities mentioned in the article?

I love the unfair demonisation of car enthusiasts (or more specifically the hoons or hoodlums) the media is guilty of. In two sentences they mention hoodlums and using a mobile phone & not wearing seatbelts - because obviously its only the 'hoodlums' who break those laws right? :(

    • Thanks everyone for the replies and suggestions. Got the seats out (hoping I could find some existing grommets but no such luck). By tapping and measuring etc. I could figure out where I could drill through if needed. But first I borrowed an inspection camera and managed to go through factory holes in the chassis rail and could see that the captive nut was holding steady which is why it could retighten. So it was indeed a stripped section of thread, so I applied downforce by levering the bolt head with a screwdriver and went slowly back and forth until it came out. Camera helped a lot cos I could monitor that the captive nut was holding tight. Now I just have one very seized main subframe nut to tackle 😅
    • BOVs do have a purpose, if you ever log pressure before and after the throttle body, you will see a spike pre throttle on lift off from a WOT condition. Enough to bend throttle blades / damage e-throttle motors or simple assist in blowing off cooler pipes. FWIW, the above on really applies to those running at least 2 bar of boost. OP shouldn't have an issue, on the other hand, here are some videos of my shit box over a decade ago with some succulent dose with the airbox on and off. That shit box is unrecognisable these days 🫠    
    • I've tried all different combinations of BOVs/ no BOV and stock bypass valves over the years, on gear changes the stock bypass valve seems to get the car back on boost quicker because in part the turbos wheel speed isn't being slowed down by reversion, although they have issues holding boost much over the stock setting. Most aftermarket BOVs you can adjust the spring, tighter will make it open later and close sooner, but in my experience it'll cause a bit of flutter at low load/rpm anyway. I've also got some input into this whole no bov causing turbo wear, never had an issue on any on my turbos HOWEVER, I got my R33 GTST with 200k kms on it, with from what I can see still has the original turbo, no lateral shaft play but has about 4-5mm of play in and out which to me seems like a worn thrust bearing from years (100-150k kms?) of turbo flutter running no bov, so maybe there is some truth to it in the long run. But that'll never stop me loving the Stutututu while I have the car.   OP just wants to know if he can run a atmo vented BOV with no major issues and the answer is YES, plenty of people do it, there's no harm in installing it and seeing how it runs before spending $$$ on an aftermarket ecu, last time I bought a Nistune it was $2400 for install and a tune , unsure of todays prices but you get me. Crazy money to spend just to fix the minor inconvenience of stalling that can be overcome by letting the revs come down to near idle before putting the clutch in or a little bit of throttle to avoid it. You're better off leaving the ecu and tune for after a bigger turbo/injectors have been installed to take full advantage of the tune and get your moneys worth.   Let OP have his Whoosh sound without trying to break his bank haha
    • I see you missed the rest of the conversation where they have benefits, but nothing to do with avoiding breaking turbos, which is what the aftermarket BOV made all the fan boys, tuners, and modders believe was the only purpose for them...
    • But they do so for the other reasons to have a compressor bypass. It's in the name.
