When I talked to my local Nissan dealer he said it would be a three month wait to get one, then it would need to be "used" for 12 months... So 15 months minimum.

One possible hurry up would be to buy and register the display stock (which is not for sale) and let the dealer keep it until it was released for sale, then you would get a shorter wait, a couple of months free parking and temptation would be locked safely away in a showroom.

If you were an Aussie living in Japan could you still buy a new GTR and then bring it to Aust and license it on the road prior to Nissan releasing them here?

How long do you have to keep it in Japan?

I believe you have to live there for 2 years before you can bring it back to Aus.

why 2? as long as you can show proof of continuous ownership for 12 months, with evidence such as parking allocation fees, registration, insurance etc, then you can import it as a personal import.

unless you plan on living there for a year for purposes other than owning the car, its not really financially viable, as by the time you pay the import taxes, duties etc, you'll have paid $120,000 to $130,000 on a car that's a year old.
