Hey guys, my head is off on my rb26, and i would like to know what the block should look like if the oil restrictor is blocked off(as one should be blocked std on the 26's right?), i fear mine has been removed, is it easy to block off if it has?, ive got a tomei gasket kit coming with the oil restrictor included, where do i place this restrictor, and again is it easy to fit?

Pictures would really help me, i dont want to have to pull open the head cause i didnt do these small few things in the 1st place:)

thanks in reply!

yeh from my time talking to ppl there should b already an 2.0mm oil restrictor in the block betwen cylinder 4 and 5 the 1.5mm restrictor just slip straight in on top so ive been told but yeh keep doing ur research i need to aswell lol

Hey guys, just an update, ive now attached the pic(which i didnt do before - DOH!) Please if someone can point out where the tomei restrictor goes, and whether or not i have the 1 restrictor blocked off...that would be great.

Still trying to figure out where these dowels go, im quite certain 1 goes on the corner of the exhaust side cly1, and the other exhaust side, between cyl 5 and 6?(as these holes are slightly more bored than the rest)

thanks:)

Ive been reading the whole oil control article, and think i understand now.....can someone confirm this though...ive attached a new picture. The red area is one of the stock restrictors????, and the tomei restrictor goes over the top of this stock one....is this correct?

the yellow area is the other stock restrictor (which is blocked off because its an rb26dett engine)...is this also correct in saying?

the green area circled is where one of the dowels go for the block?and the other is on the same side but cannot be seen in the pics

R33's are not as prone to this issue as R32's.... I think, unless thats something else to do with oil flow.

Heres the Nengun link to buy buy buy - http://www.nengun.com/tomei/oil-gallery-orifice. Strangely enough it says For RB25&20 but you can only purchase for RB26 :P

I just got a tomei gasket kit today, it has instructions on how to install the oil gallery restrictor, looks pretty easy, batter down the existing one, and put new one in its place (over the top)....couple of quick questions regarding this

1) what tool do you use to hammer the existing 2mm one down

2) is it possible to push the existing 2mm gallery restrictor down too much?, i mean how do you know you've hit it down enough, or too much)???....im just scared of the existing restrictor going down too much when i hit it.....

i assume you hit the existing one down, and then it doesnt go down anymore, then when you put the new tomei one in its place, itll just sit flush with the block?

help please, id like to do this asap!

thanks

r33 turb, correct, red is the standard restrictor and where you would put a tomei one, yellow is the blocked off return. not 100% sure about the dowel location but if you look 2 of the head bolt holes are larger they are where the dowels go.

also, while you are working the oil drain is the rear most holes at the back of the block, strange shaped holes just open them up to the size of the holes in the gasket. (motor out only don't do it to that pic!)

nsta...when you have a hammer every job looks like it needs a hammer. just tap it carefully and straight. once it is flush with the surface of the block you are done

Thanks duncan - that helps a great deal, and clarifies alot aswell. So when fitting the new restrictor over the old one, you place the new restrictor over the top of the exisiting one thats there and tap it down slowly until the new restrictor sits flush?......or would it be better to tap the existing one first ever so slightly, then place the new one over the top (now you have it centered and slightly in the bore hole now) then tap it down.

I just dont want to screw it up as the block is not coming off.

Cheers

no its the first.....just put the new one on top and tap them both down together they will go OK. just be gentle make sure it doesnt go in crooked, if you manage to put it in crooked and score the restrictor you could end up with a metal shaving floating around the bottom end. I've never had a problem though.

so line em up and tap away??? I thought id do this mod while the head is off, i cant do any of the other ones as the block wont be out...hope this helps somewhat with oil blowby....

What kind of tool did you use to tap it with if you dont mind me asking, ill also be doing this mod.

thanks
