Looking To Buy An M35 Stagea Axis, Just Wondering If It's A Good Price At 30k

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Been looking to get one of these babies for a few months and have found a nice example for 30 grand and was wondering if that's a fair price to pay. These are the specs.

2002 Axis Stagea

65,000kms

silver

standard options, no cruise or side airbags

Car is immaculate.

thanks

Eugene

is it already in australia or available for import?

Prices are generally cheaper if you import through an import broker, at the cost of not being able to physically inspect and test-drive the car beforehand.

Have a look on www.j-spec.com.au, www.prestigemotorsport.com.au, and www.imports101.com.au for a few estimates of import prices. However please note that THIS IS NOT a personal recommendation for any of those. I have not dealt with any of them so cannot comment on their service.

To compare local prices have a look on www.autotrader.com.au, and www.carsales.com.au. Not sure how many are on there however, I'm guessing not many at all.

There are for's and against's for both options (local or import) so its your decision whether the extra premium for buying one that is already in australia is worth it for the reduced risk. :D

Thanks for the info mate.

The car is already complied and sitting in the car yard. I am planning to fly interstate next week to check it out.

I would like to buy one through a broker as I know it will save me some coins, but the problem is that no finance company I know would let you take out a car loan when the car is not yet in the country. You can however take out a personal loan, but the rates are higher.

So I really have very little choice but to find a car that's already in the country since it will be leased.

If it's the one on the Gold Coast, I know the car: I took a look at it last week, out of interest: very clean: looks to be a good buy, considering it's from a dealer, AND it's already over here....

Sounds like pretty good value. I paid $30k for a 2003 ARX with 43K km on the clock.

Thanks for the info. Yes that's the one. :)

They claim it was advertised for 35k in December, but have knocked it down to 30k for some reason I didnt ask.

I think I saw that on line also and $35K sounds right from memory.

I noticed a good looking ARX at Top Secret Imports in Blacktown. See link. http://www.topsecretimports.com.au.

Hello,

I bought a 2002 AXIS, Silver twin sunroofs and all the goodies. Mine had 34k on the clock and I paid over $30k for it. Good value for a rarer of the M35 stageas, you wont see many AXIS on the road that is for sure. If you have any question feel free to PM me.

Thanks for your offer Jules, much appreciated :)

May I ask what options you can get with the Axis? Thinking about it now, i'd love one with the dual roofs... lol

Hello,

I can only say what mine has which is:

Bose 6 Stacker Intergrated Stereo with Sub mounted in the spare wheel cavity.

Electric Leather seats

Rear AC vents

Cargo net & blind

Very nice 18" Rims, 225/45

Extra storage compartments (as I dont have the TV screen)

Twin Sunroofs

Body kit which is standard

Mount for flare ( I think mine is a red emergency flare, cant read japanese) standards me thinks.

If you can read japanese this Autech site has all your answers, it is very interesting to note that Autech planted a 6 speed manual in the 350S, I wonder how hard that would be to transfer the 6 speed in to the AXIS or any other VQ25DET M35 for that matter. At least we know a 6 speed manual was slotted in to one.

i gave this car the once-over and it seems to be in top condition, everything about it looked good....but those bloody tailights ruin a goodlooking car(just me)

goodluck if you go ahead with it

ps offer em $28.

Yeah I second that - esp if its the dealer on the GC that i bought mine from...

Most dealers make quite a bit on their cars and are happy to knock the price down a couple grand if it means a sale. We managed to knock $1500 off ours and got 12 months warranty free. The warranty ended up not being that great but better than nothing.

Good luck with the purchase if you decide to go ahead with it....and if you do...please show us some pics :(

Thanks for everyones comments. Sounds like I have 2 options atm. One car from North Shore Prestige, and the other from GC.

I just spoke to the guys from NSP, and they wanted 35k for theirs. a 5 grand difference is quite a bit, but their car does have lower kms and it's black which i prefer.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

    • I am probably calling this too early but I think I found what part of my problem is. I have a couple of dents that are fairly close to each other and I tried to fix them individually. Recently I put one larger coat across all the dents and sanded it and for the first time ever it's all even except for the edge where the bare metal is, I just need to put some putty there. I'm ordering some better longer blocks that are more flexible. Other good news is that the other repairs on my panel are flat even with the guidecoat. It's these 2 dents which are an absolute c*nt l lol.
    • Murray will have better input, but I'd be going with less filler, and aimed at the low spots mainly, and hence won't need as much sanding, which then means get the guide coat on earlier. That's how I'd do it, BUT, I'm not a pro, I'm a DIY hack who will then get the shits halfway through, and have one spot awesomely repaired, and the other spots look like a 3 year old was left unsupervised with workshop tools...
    • Where is the most common place to locate it? Disappointing that Garrett won’t make a fitting for it since they know everyone will use it
    • A HICAS fault really should not cause the engine to go into limp mode. These cars are so old that the systems barely talk to one another. The thump might be the lockoff solenoid valve for the HICAS (the safety valve) getting closed, to lock the rear wheels "straight". I say "straight", because when my HICAS used to shit itself before I took off and nuked it from orbit, it would lock up with the rear wheels wildy non-straight and you'd need 45° of steering wheel to drive straight. Take off and nuke it from orbit. First step is to pull the smaller of the two plugs out of the HICAS CU. See if it stops misbehaving. You can also (whilst leaving it plugged in) try to get the HICAS CU into diagnostic mode by doing the pedal dance, or by connecting a CONSULT capable diagnostic reader into the car and seeing what it has to say for itself. Can't do either of these with it unplugged though. 1st gen HICAS is a ballache. I would do a complete delete. I did do a complete delete.
