All,

I got my baby back on Sat. Every thing is nice and I am 95% happy. I have an oil leak from number 1 turbo, which makes the car almost un-drivable due to the amount of oil that hits the manifold. And a new noise which I would rather not have, its a wining noise from what sounds like the new variable cam sprockets on the cam belt.

The car is back to stock boost about 9-10 Lb and it feels really strong. You can really feel the roof in power around 4-5K RPM. Another 8-9 Lb of boost should fix that. I could not get this second hand boost up kit working so I will probably buy a new one, then the serious tuning will start.

For those who care the total cost for the re-build was $14500.

See the breakdown below.

$4050 New Engine, short with not turbo’s or manifolds.

$1425 Repair exhaust wheel on #1, Rebuild & High flow 47.5mm wheels.

$520 Variable HKS Cams

$850 HKS Dumps

$500 550cc Injectors

$475 Sump Baffles & Head restrictor

$635 Metal Head, inlet and outlet gasket

$1500 Case hardened flywheel, 3000lb 4 puk brass button clutch

$500 sundries, gasket kit, toe truck, oils etc

$4000 70 hrs of labour.

I think this is an adventure that most of us would rather not do, so the only thing I can suggest is have your car racetrack ready before doing too many drive days. On my next GTR, below are the following things I would do before putting it on the racetrack and driving it hard.

1. Install a huge oil cooler.

2. Head restrictor and Metal head gaskets while the head was off.

3. Sump Baffles.

I hope this thread will help others.

The car is back to 100%, I took the car back to the shop on Tuesday. They fixed a damaged oil return pipe off one of the turbos and the oil leak is gone. The cam sprocket noise has almost gone and I am hopefully going to put my boost up kit into the GTR this weekend. It’s only been 1 week back on the road and I am already starting to look for the extra KW's.

It’s funny, after driving a Festiva around for 12 weeks it’s hard to understand why people in the street stop and turn their heads. I’m going "What the Fork are you looking at" until I realise I’m not in the festiva any more. Its weird because I have been driving a skyline now for well over 3 years and I guess I have to adjust to the attention that they bring.

Yes, it gets its first test next week at Oran park when a few of us go and get our cams licences.

I still have a few things to do, before Im finished.

Boost up kit.

Replace my 6lt cat with a 9lt one.

Replace the small resonator with a larger highflow muffler(Hopeing to get down below 90db)

Put the largest oil cooler in I can.

Gear box cooler.

And a good tune!

Yeah, heaps more torque, pulls now without having to go down a gear ie 5th gear @ 60km/hr and no need to go down a gear or two to accelerate. I guess it’s all subjective but I am a lot happier, dumps and high flow are also a contributor.

It’s not apples with apples. Last time I drove the car it had 16lb of boost, it only has 8-10 now. It should be interesting once the boost is increased.
