I'm over jap cars! When you go prestige you will never go back.

Try it one day you will know what I mean - Then realise you use to be a hoon - Then realise why everyone hates them and join them hating them. :-)

Jap cars were good 5 years ago when everyone left you alone but now everyone is against them.

Go prestige - No defects - No EPA's - Save on Petrol. And all you need to do is put a set of sexy wheels on.

Wholeheartley agreed.

I don't own any prestige car at the moment but I am hoping to buy a 2006+ Bmw series 3 by end of this year fingers crossed. For the amount I'm going to spend, i could perhaps own a evo x as i believe jap cars do have the sheer grunt and power, no one can dispute that but end of the day, they severely lack in class and looks.

I am beginning to notice more Audi, Merc and Bmw's in Melbourne's inner cbd and it's surrounding vicinity.. This city is slowly but surely transforming into a high class city, after all, it is Australias fashion capital.

My friends live in areas where every 2nd car parked in the drive way is a German built car and when i go out for coffees or dinners in these areas, i do feel like a major hoon in my Skyline even though my car is fairly moderately modified.

I think the Bmw's new 3 series look great with its smooth curves.

Driving a jap car around the more affluent suburbs full of German cars is great because there aren't anywhere near the amount of police around to hassle you as there are compared to suburbs where most the streets are scorched with burnt rubber.

That is except for anywhere around Chapel Street and Dandenong road

What model are you going to be going for in the 3 series?

Correct me if i'm wrong but top spec (before m3) is the 335i (twin turbo 6cylinder). These do come in sedan form aswell correct?

Whatever you buy just make sure it's black :P

Yes I will give you the fact that Euro cars are prestige etc. However thats about it.I been behind the wheel of a few of them and honestly they are just ordinary cars that are ridiculously overpriced.Sure they may be a little quieter than most cars. And as far as build quality.they went down the toilet years ago.Ask anybody who ever works on one-They are just as big a shitheap as any falcadore. As far as I am told most of the mercs get their parts from Korea.I used to work in an unnamed company that had 50 Merc Sprinter vans...Every one of them blew gearboxes before hitting 100000 km..! ( $15000+ for the tiptronic auto )Then the diesel fuel injection systems started shitting themselves as well as computer glitches that wont allow it to go out of nuetral, doors that dont shut properly. I think VW is the best quality car in Germany right now...At least they are reliable

Im not over Japanese cars, but I am on a "break" from them, after nothing but turbo cars for the past 13 years its kinda nice to be driving a N/A v8 for a change. My Xr6t changed my mind on the whole japcar scene, I really dont go 'driving' much at all these days, most of what i seem to do is boring stuff to & from work etc....

Must be getting old! :P

Who else is feeling the same symptoms?

They just don't seem to have that "classy" or "elegant" touch in them, no matter what car or what brand, it's still a Jap car end of the day.

When driving around in Melbourne's higher class suburbia, you feel like a foreigner in your Jap vehicle.

sounds like you're trying to ' keep up with the jones's.' does it really matter what other people think about what car you drive.

if you drive an modified import you're pigeon holed as a hoon, if you drive a prestige car you pigeon holed as a snob.

personally i think prestige cars are rediculously overpriced and a complete wank, where you often pay >60K for something with a 2.5 litre engine, a hole bunch of electronic gadgets that break soon after the warranty runs out, and a brand name that's supposed to say 'look at me i'm successful'

maybe i just feel that way cause i work in 'upper class' mosman (sydney), and serve alot of customers owning poodles, driving bmw's/mercedes with superiority complexes

not trying to be rude, maybe i'm reading it wrong, i don't know, and that you meant you're in the market for a car that has a nicer interior and that looks more civilised than an evo etc??

lol as if a run of the mill predominantly junior marketing intern owned 3 series beemer is a sign of luxury. that's like assuming sipping cheap champagne in copious amounts at melbourne cup day can turn you from a skank to a lady.

down the track i'd be definitly considering a higher class euro car with some balls and hopefully be in the position to keep the liner as the fun weekender. i just want to drive a pimped out audi merc beamer or bentleigh's like all those rappper's do before lights out.

Ummm the Quality?

Its just like saying what can you get in a Skyline that you can't get in a Holden in the same price range?

your comparing lemon's with mango's

wat quality?

2 of my mates bought a 318i and a holden statesmen of the same year from the same dealer. the bimmer's broken down 3 - 4 times already and cost about 3 grand to fix. the stato's runnin like brand new. not saying holdens are better or that i'd ever choose a holden over a euro but yeah...

quality my arse, you think all mercs are bulletproof just coz they're mercs? they're made in mexico ffs

just my opinon but if i was to ever go euro i'd get somethin from the $100K+ range and from italy but since i dont have that sorta money ima stick to what i can afford lol

I live next to the city. I drive an r34. The cars in my apartment carpark are, Porsche GT3, Porsche 911, bmw M6, bmw 3 series, 5 series, 7 series X5s, mercs e class, s class, you'll prob end up a millionaire if there's a grand theft auto . Anyway, I don't feel anything at all. We drive pass each other looking at each other's cars with a smile in our face.

I'm still young, not even mid 20s yet, i feel that driving an import at our age is perfectly fine. However, when i reach my late 20s, i'll be planning to get a euro car BUT still keeping an import as a toy.

    • Yeh... literally every time i jump on a forum, see an instagram post or see an engine bay at a car show, i get an idea and add it to my 'to do' list. So what started off as, hey can u just make a couple of intake hard pipes because my dumbass bought the wrong apexi kit, blew out into a 2 week job including braided brake lines & custom bash kit for the front lip haha.  Getting Luke from A4E engineering to make a full custom exhaust with a controllable aes dump valve so i can actually switch between quiet and loud, because right now its just loud all day every day. Then after that go and get the tune redone flex e85 & 98 as i get bugger all milage from e85, makes going for longer drivers difficult
    • Car looks clean as. You ended up getting quite a bit done 😂  So what's the plan for the exhaust?
    • The only Neo rods that were any different to any other RB25 rods were the DET ones, and they were the same as RB26. Here is a Neo DET rod. O5U part number visible. Here is a post in a thread here on SAU with evidence from someone who has done this before. There are photos in the thread of normal RB25 rods.
    • Sure, but why assume that will be the case forever? And why assume you'll be able to do an oil change to swap back to a stock drain bolt before that happens? And does it even matter when I change the oil at fairly short intervals? Life can be funny sometimes and unexpected things can happen. Like breaking a collarbone so you can't do any work on your car for a few months but the oil change is due so you have to take it to somewhere and hope they don't do something stupid like stacking the new drain plug washer on top of the old one.
    • Do u know how to identify the rods are rb25 or neo ones? Can u look into the pics and tell me is they de or de neo ones. Its confusing becoz my motor has de neo head but block is 25de 75t, so really confusing me about rods, crank.
