umm... reliability .... and a car which would actually do well at the track?

how many maserati do u see broken down or in a workshop cause there is something wrong with them

How often do you see old maseratis on the road full stop? There's a reason for that. Some of them are probably now recycled sheet metal lol.

if u bhad read the whjole thing u would realise i said a 2000 model maserati not a old old one witch is around the same age as a r34 adn looking on carslae some of the r34 gtrs are going for 75gs+ theres actualy on on ther going for 97k withc is ridiculous in price considering some of the euro cars u can get for the same price that will blow them away and if u were going to relay go all out u would go out and but the turbo v12 mercedes lets see ur gtr catch this http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/demo/d...id=11ECAA9B31FA

I dare say the 96k GTR you're talking about is Aaron's.

Your Maserati won't be blowing it away anytime soon.

And the SL65 you linked to is $450k, so slightly different price range :(

Well, I must admit I don't read through the entirety of multipage year-old threads when people dig them up.

The value of something isn't determined by how much people are willing to sell it for (eg., the guy trying to peddle the crap $100k number plate on eBay), it's by how much people are willing to pay for it. Sure there are 100k R34 GTRs, but they won't sell when there are 40-50k R34 GTRs. So I would like you to compare the cheapest 40-50k Euro rival to the performance and reliability of an R34 GTR.

And I agree with you, a stock R34 GTR will be blown away by that V12 twin turbo Merc which costs 10X more eg., $440k... your point?

im beginig to agree thats y i have already decide as soon as im off my ps im buying a 2000 model maserati 3200 gt m338 still got thetubo power plus the added advantage of a v8 and its dam sexc plus u got to a bar the guy beside u puts down a set of nissan keys u put down a maserati keys witch one is the girl going to take.....Dam strait the maserati winns evertime

Seriously, if getting chicks is the main factor dictating your car choice, then you should buy a Ferrari replica for a 1/10th of the cost. It's fake, performs crap, and you'll have no respect from any guy, but the chicks you'll try to pick up with it won't know :(

Oh yeah, I forgot a point. Usually the expensive R34 GTRs are highly modified, as dezz mentioned. So you still more bang-for-you-buck than Euro rivals. But that's not your motivation for getting Euro cars, though, is it matty1989?

Oh sorry, I just realised from your username that you must be about 19. I guess getting laid as your number 1 aim is life is not too anachronistic then.

actualy mate i would not say getting laid is my mostr imprtant factor as i have a son and a partner how ever as pointed out the maserati for 75k compared to a standard r34 gtr for say the same price moded or not moded wen it comes to value for money ur better off as u get the luxuary of a euro car but also u ahve the perfoance and ppl by cars for tehm se;ves to enjoy as well as to make other tur heads or we would not worrie about doing cars up at all and i got ot admit if i was at a car show i would be mor inclined to look at a maserati or a genuine ferrari not a replica over a jap car amnd reliablility no issue in a euro car also generaly speaking easier to find prts for as the manafactures adn sellers are here in aus were3 is they aint for the gtrs

Are you really 19? You have a partner and a son? If that's the case I thought you wouldn't care about whether chicks will be attracted to you based on what car keys are on the bar table, as you described.

But it's undisputable that at any particular price point, Jap cars >>> Euro cars for performance and reliability. If you don't want to modify your car, then it's harder to say. I have nothing against Euro cars. My daily is a very old, very big and heavy Merc, just because it is everything that my GTR isn't eg., can carry 5 people in luxury, actually has a boot. And my dream car is a Ferrari F430. Euro cars are generally more luxurious, refined and a pleasure to drive as well as sit in, but I would buy them for reasons different from why I got my GTR. Anyway, different strokes for different folks. Good luck with your Maserati.

NEW GTR vs Porsche GT2 or 3 = GTR winner

In Price is cheaper

Performance is superiour

Faster around the Nurberg Ring

And lets throw in a Corvette TVZ-R that is faster than the 3 cars around the Nurberg ring which is made in the good ol U.S.A

As top gear have shown high end exotics are tempromental, expensive to maintain and service. Plus you loss massive KW's as the car ages!

What does this say, well my 1995 GTR still has it's factory 180 KW's after 15 years, where a euro will be 25-35 kw less at around the same age.

I can go on forever, but I will let you learn through experience and many $$$'s being spent that one day you will say" Man those Skyline guys where right!"

look i do but dont agree i mean atm i own a r32 gtst but if it came down to prefernce i would preffer a euro car like my dream car is a porsche carrera gt1 i do agree value for money wise the new gtr compared to most new euro cars is better value but i persoanly can not jsutify spending over 100k on a jap car especialy wen they instantly come with a 180km speed limiter wen for the same moey u can buy a euro car that is more luxurius another of over pricing is the latest comodore w427 180k wen its just going to be seen as another commodore on the road i do agree if ur after nothing but preformance then the new jap cars are prob the way to go but if u want an all round preformance and luxaury ride then euro the whole way

My girlfriend's (of 3 years) Dad owns a 2003 Grand Turismo and I've been in it a boat load of times. Red book values it at around... $115,000k still. Looks okay, sounds awesome, has some serious grunt under the bonnet, but it's still not worth it.

Having sat inside it... it's still just another car. In fact, it's worse in many ways. An example; it's a two door, the front seats cannot be manually moved, they have to be electronically moved forward and back to let people into the back seat. This movement literally takes over a minute to go each way. You have to stand there for like 90 seconds each time you want to get into the back. Furthermore, for some bizarre reason they break down all the time, and you CAN'T move it manually.

Hell, just changing the tyres costs as much as a decent Nissan. Honestly, I got more looks in my R33 non turbo than he does in his Maserati. People don't recognize it.

I don't really know what I'm getting at anymore, but all I know is a $100,000 R34 GTR with the works under the hood would be a lot more fun, draw a lot more attention (and respect) and would still be cheaper to maintain even though it's pushing 500kwatw.

I'm over jap cars! When you go prestige you will never go back.

Try it one day you will know what I mean - Then realise you use to be a hoon - Then realise why everyone hates them and join them hating them. :-)

Jap cars were good 5 years ago when everyone left you alone but now everyone is against them.

Go prestige - No defects - No EPA's - Save on Petrol. And all you need to do is put a set of sexy wheels on.

exactly, thats why some ppl are getting out of jap cars, too much cop hassle and other. (dont agree with your hoon comment, any non old person in a jap car is considered a 'hoon'.

i will say

1. i dont like new cars

2. jap cars are still gud general, you can even get prestige and performance in one.
