Hey there,

just wondering if anyone can suggest things to do on a weekday night and weekday. Will be dropping by Canberra early next week to get some things done at the foreign embassy. Just a few questions which i hope some of you can answer.

1) Are the embassies far away from the city?

2) Which hotels would you recommend? Budget $150 a night.

3) Places to go after 7 for dinner ( i'll probably be arriving at that time cos of the drive from Melbourne )

4) Places to go to in the day besides the Parliament House

Thanks guys

1) Are the embassies far away from the city? Nope, all the larger countries are just over the bridge in Yarralumla/Barton area maybe 5 minute drive

2) Which hotels would you recommend? Budget $150 a night. hmm got me there most of the good ones are more than that http://www.wotif.com/search/Advanced?selec...urrencyCode=AUD

3) Places to go after 7 for dinner ( i'll probably be arriving at that time cos of the drive from Melbourne ) - Depends on what you like I personally always go to Ginseng in Manuka it is the best Chinese in Aus well I haven’t been to flower drum but it's meant to be almost as good as that.

4) Places to go to in the day besides the Parliament House - War Memorial, National Museum etc check out http://www.visitcanberra.com.au/

the Olims Hotel is probably a good choice. its located right in the middle of where most of the embassies are and rooms are ~$140 per night. http://www.accorhotels.com.au/5509

Thanks buddy, i'll have a look at that. :/

BTW, do you guys have a monthly skylines meet as well? Wouldn't mind dropping by to check out the cars

he said he wont be here till next week, Mick :)

You'll find plenty of places to eat in Manuka or the City. I'd personally eat at Manuka at stay at somewhere like Rydges Capital Hill which is just down the road. Both are very close to the embassies in Yarralumla.

TiTAN, Olims is in Braddon! Wrong side of the lake! lol ;)

What time does shops normally close on a Tuesday night?

which shops?

shopping malls and stuff would close at 5.30pm, but Woolies and Coles are open till about midnight... actually the Coles at Manuka is 24hours (the only one in Canberra).

there's plenty of 24hour servos too.

    • What mods are done to the car? By driving in traffic, does it die while moving, say at 50kmh? Or its when you're sitting idling it wants to die, or when idling and you go to accelerate?   When you're idling, how long is it normally idling for time wise before it starts to miss and sputter?
    • Hi mate,  It starts doing this when driving through normal city traffic.   Will be when I go to accelerate or if I stop and let it idle sometimes it will shut off.

    • Actually it's the other way around, winter is when we do the most work on our cars! Best time to do big jobs as they can't be driven. I have a winch in the garage as well to push it out and pull it in when the motors out.  I've just been slacking due to the 2 hours of sleep a night I've been getting :p
    • It's funny how you guys in the Northern Hemisphere stop working on your cars because of the cold. Here in Aus we stop working on them when it gets too hot!  Even with the split system A/C running my shed still sits at around 40 degrees (celcius).  I drip forehead sweat over everything!  Should see some good results with E85 (and proper timing! ).
