Cars have been known to finish first in Targa with rock hard suspention (whites gtr). Granted they wern't hard shocks, but the car jumped all over the road with the spring rates it was running. I think Appeltons driving ability, combined with most of the front runners changing tyres helped with the result.

Our Targa car came with SK type bilsteins with the coilover kit. They are brilliant. And at track days the car is one of the flattest cars round the corners (rest of the suspention is stock R33 N1).

I've never ridden in a Aus spec Tein Skyline, But I have been in a Jap super street Skyline, and I would never recoment them to anyone. But that's just my oppinion

150 happy skyline owners.....compared to how many thousands worldwide happy with Tein?

Seriously, this is the same old thread where someone asks a question relating to a brand of suspensions thats not a bilstein group buy kit, and SK is trying to sell his product.

It gets old really fast hearing the same crap.

just my opinion.

Compaired to how many thousands happy with bilsteins world wide?

I guess the thing is when you have a DIRECT compairson between the two (ie same spring rates and wheel alinement) you would have to be running with the bilsteins, they are a better quality shock, with a better quality ride. Most people wouldn't have that experience, hence they ask the question about a brand they have heard of being decent quality.

Now I'm not saying the teins are bad, nor am I saying the bilsteins are the best. But if it were my money, I know what I would do.

Due to the money I have wasted on suspension over the years, I feel obligated to let people know what I feel is best bang for buck. Now if was in SK position offering the decent discount he is, with his knowledge, I'd be doing the same thing, trying to stop people wasting money on products that might not be as good.

Just my opinion.

What RPMGTR has been able to do with JAGR33, Snowman and a few others cars is impressive. They ride nicely on the street, and the pace of the cars at the track and their balance means there cant be too much wrong with the model Teins they are running. Actually, i only stop short of calling them a revelation because i have not personally punted the cars hard on the track. Only followed at the track and been a passenger on the street

My car was already a clear 2-3 seconds quicker at Winton with the new Teins (modified by RPMGTR). But thats not a fair comparison to the Bilsteins as they were off the shelf Whiteline shocks and springs and were never meant to be pushed as hard as they were on the track. For what they were i still rate my off the shelf Whiteline suspension highly, they are very flexible. With a bit more trial and error i hope to improve my car a bit...but as is i am already very happy with the improved stability

So maybe its not a matter of SK Bilsteins vs Tein, but a certain model of Tein...the net is quite a large one and perhaps should not bag all the Teins together. (Cheap with expensive, or re-valved)

But, being a person who was loyal to the Bilsteins etc for years, the car just outgrew them and i almost went re-valved Bilsteins/Eibach...its just that AGR33s etc car were all so impressive. A 7/10s run at bumpy Sandown and my car was a revelation and only 1.7seconds off my best. Be interesting to see what happens when i get back their early Feb?

Its easy to throw out a whole bunch of technical terms and mumbojumbo to people who dont actually know what it means, then discount the product to be the absolute cheapest to make a sale.

I have had experiences with these kits as off the shelf and "revalved" kits....i would also not waste my money...but if i did, i would certainly make sure i got what i had paid for.

Just my opinion.

bloody hell....how can we get anywhere comparing vic's teins to nsw's bilsteins (its like state of bloody origin) when it is different cars, different tracks, different drivers, different days. All made worse by the fact there are quick cars down in vic in outright terms but they have not been raced or built to any race regs. How can you compare them to anything? Build them to improved production specs and beat the BSM gtrs, or build them to sports sedan specs and beat ricciadello - then you can say they are quickest :D

I run bilsteins in the stagea (road and tow car) and they are excellent, and am about to put Bilsteins in the race car - but without running them back to back with teins I am just another person pissing in the wind.

I agree Duncan...hence my post in the other thread about there being no point thinking that the best solution for Wakefield works for Phillip Island and likewise works on the street.

Im trying to balance the cards by suggesting that its perhaps unfair to write off all Teins, likewise a kit that has been tailolred for a sporting street setup (Bilsteins). Then there is the big grey area that is driving ability and what the driver likes from the car. So variable....

Original poster was asking about how to adjust his Teins because they were a bit hard on the street ... :D

One thing to keep in mind guys is that Tein make an extremely wide range of shocks.

There are Tein's out there that are way too hard and i'd never run them in ANY car, and if these were the only Tein's i'd experinced then I would hate Tein's also and be biast towards any other shock as most would be an improvment. But the top of the range alloy body mono-tube shocks are top sh1t and I would go as far as saying the dampening quality of these Tein's only would be superior to the Billsteins. These are what most of the fast Vic guys are running around on and yes thay have tested back to back.

But for someone who is a daily driver occasional tracker, or who wants a nice combination of do everything setup with no fuss at a great price, then go the billstein. For those guys with too much money who need an extra 10th, then the alloy TEIN's would be the better option.

I think we are comparing apples to oranges.

couldn't be happier with my tein setup

Let's get a few things straight, I don't make any money selling Group Buy Bilsteins, so I really don't care whether people buy them or not. My only reason for posting is to provide information to help people make the right choices. What you see posted on here is less than 10% of the same sorts of problems people come to me with every day. They buy cars with the wrong stuff in it or listen to their mates down the pub who really have no idea. I spend hours and hours every week helping people get out of bad situations as a result, their wife/girlfriend won't ride in the car, it scrapes going into their driveway, they wore out the tyres in 5,000 k's etc etc.

Secondly, I am not anti Tein, far from it, read back a few posts and you will see that we in fact have 2 sets for the Bathurst 12. Just like I am not anti Koni, I recommend them for Hondas all the time. We use Ohlins a lot in the race cars, particularly the V8 SuperCars, the F3 car runs on Sach exclusively. My Australian made shock of choice is Proflex, we have won the class in 3 Bathurst 12 Hours using Proflex shocks. So don't for one minute think that I am exclusively Bilstein, we use whatever is best for the purpose at hand.

I feel sorry for the guys who have to read the same stuff over and over, but if the new guy (who started the post) gets some benefit from it, then maybe it is worthwhile. After all you can easily skip the bit that you already know. Perhaps if more people used the search button you wouldn't have to read the same information over and over.

Cheers

i got the tein super streets for my 33 for this exact reason. don't take the car on the track but want it to be able to deal with any thing on the road and it does with ease. i got the edfc to adjust the stiffness depending on my mood and who is in the car so i get the best of both worlds but that's just me

You do of course realise that adjusting the rebound (extension) damping on the shock does almost nothing for the "stiffness". Super Streets don't have bump (compression) damping adjustment. So regardless what you do with EDFC, you still have exactly the same spring and damper bump rate which is what you feel as harshness and what affects the ride comfort.

If you have the spherical bearing strut tops they also contribute noticeably to the NVH.

well when i change it from 0 to 16 it certainly feels alot softer and less harsh so it obviously is doing something and has adjustment unlike the bilsteins in the group buy which don't have any adjustment.

I dont have the pillowball tops either.
