Hey guys, im going to be doing this tommorow for my rb26,and was wondering what sort of guides people use when doing theirs, ive searched the forums and there seems to be alot of guides written differently,.....

Im doing my belt, tensioner, idler and waterpump all at the same time, and words of advice greatly appreciated, as its my first time, so far, i can see timing marks for my inlet exhast on the cam cover, and also cas marks were there already aswell...

What confuses me is all the marks on the bottom pulley going down the side of it (looking front on at the engine)

Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

the mark on the crank cam (the dot) lines up with a mark in the alloy case that surrounds the cam, with this mark lined up (has to be dead on) slide the balancer on and the mark on the balancer should line up with the TDC mark on the timing belt cover.

if it doesnt then your all on drugs

yeah, that makes more sense.

though at the end of the day you can ignore the marks on the harmonic balancer as they are only there to help set the ignition timing and nothing else. Only the crank gear and the notch, and the cam gears and their marks on the back cover matter.

And the genuine nissan belt has marks as well incidentally. double fail safe.

Thanks, so any cas sensors from early models with the mitsi logo should work?iive been looking at a couple of pictures and they all seem to be exactly the same as mine....if it plugs in and keys in aswell is it safe to say its for my car, or should the cas sensor part no. match up....could i screw anything up if its the wrong sensor?

heres the part no for my cas: 23731 02U11

Further information regarding my issue, when the car starts...and everything is lined up, it feels like its about to turn over, and then the noise of air going through like vaccum to the intake, and it ends at my arc panel....its a wierd noise to explain....

whats this mean?, or could this relate to my cas being faulty in any way???

Hey, yeah its like it just needs that slight KICK to get going, its hard to explain, but then when the cas timing is right on, this wierd noise comes through the intake, like huge vacuum pressure going out the intake and through my afms - panel filter(where it seems to stop making the noise).

Ive cranked the engine by hand, and all seems ok.

I also lined up my timing marks at tdc, removed cyl 1 spark, and piston was right on TDC, so timing looks to be correct.

    • Oof. One of my mates has an R34 GT-R that he initially was a "I want to go twins for response and convenience" on his stock 2.6 with Kelford 272 cams, but his friends are pests and were always in his ear about their place being in the bin.   Eventually one of the 2860-5s decided to add it's own input and force his hand, so he conceded and went for a Pulsar 6262G ("G35 900") with T4 0.85 hotside.    Here's an overlay of the results, same cams, same stock bottom end, same boost, same fuel, just from a pretty tidy 2860-5 install to a Pulsar turbo on a 6boost maniifold on BP98.   Worth mentioning here, it may seem like a dead horse thing but the dyno plot doesn't tell the story of how much better it is to drive - transient response has completely changed the car, he used to have flat foot shifting to stop it having to wind up again on gear changes even at >7000rpm... now it builds boost faster than that even short shifting.   It's 100% transformed the car before you even consider how much better it holds on: Pulsar and Garrett aren't the same, but from our experience if you're just looking for a better drive and the ability to make the same or more power I think the divided G30 770 would probably be the smallest I'd go to.
    • Great work Duncan, any events local you will give it a test once all done?
    • Sweet, yeah hoping stock gears will hold up. May use the transbrake feature on hill climb starts so that will test it.
    • Yeah, the thread is only nearly 20 years old.
    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
