Just for the record, I wasn't bagging your car, just pointing out the fact, you wont get that much power to the ground.

But! What the heck, everyone on this forum is a HORSEPOWER HERO, what they forget is the magic figure called TORQUE. HP is all well and good but it does SFA until your doing about 7000rpm and 130mph.

Carol Shelby once said "Horsepower sells cars, but TORQUE wins races" and he should know!

For every time you wheel spin out of a corner (especially on Hillclimbs) you drop about a second off your time and that's a fact, not a bagging of your car or goals.

The most successful open class hillclimb car I have ever seen was owned and driven by Peter Finlay. It was a Formula Ford chassis with REAL suspension, weighed about 600kg wet, with a 1600 BDA Cosworth engine in the back and full slick tires all round. He used to hold the track record on nearly every group 1 hillclimb circuit in Australia, if he still doesn't and he had nothing like 600HP at the wheels.

I have a track DR30 and I just ordered the new turbo for the HKS hi mount manifold I brought in from Japan and I'm going to use it as a hillclimb car too. I'm not looking for anything like your aimed 600HP, but I recon I'll be waiting for you at the finish line more often than the other way round. The biggest trick in a turbo car is matching the turbo to the engine, not just hanging a monster on the side for mass HP and that is the most forgotten and common mistake.

Would you think having over 350ft/lb @ 4500rpm a good thing or just shit compared to your 600HP???

With this so called 550/600HP doing your "Glory Runs", what you going to do when your Hoosiers grip so well you tear the half shafts, or more possible, the CV joints to bits and go absolutely nowhere???

I have looked at what you bought and to get it ready for hillclimbs, a sport of about 700m max in length and sometimes as short as 3-500m where response means EVERYTHING, I think a few on this forum might agree that not only turbo & tune, but injectors, fuel rail, throttle body, plenum and a whole lot more might have to be changed to make it competitive.

Other than glory runs, why not just make it a drag car where horsepower is everything and response a lot less necessary. From what I see you bought, you could have a very quick strip car, but circuit/hillclimb is a different thing altogether.

A few enthusiasts that know the facts supported my theory and you got aggressive.

Whilst everybody blows smoke up your ass and you can throw out your chest and say great! it's my car and everybody loves it your happy, but when someone offers some criticism, your not a happy little camper anymore.

You have absolutely no idea what I drive and the Hyundai comment certainly showed your immaturity.

I personally think your car looks a damned site nicer now it's not all blue & the poxy bonnet up in the air look has gone.

I wonder what you would say if you knew I have an 4.0L n/a MX83 Cressida that has done a 14.709sec pass at WSID, 1 of the only 3 KHR30 Paul Newman Version Skylines in Oz, an KDR30 Skyline track car and an U13 Bluebird SSS as a daily driver and in May 1974 set a series production under 2L lap record (49.6sec) at Oran Park in an 1973 180B SSS Coupe.

You made a comment about likeing the stock front look on R34's car, yet your going head to head with the one person that could probably assist in supplying you with one. I think that's really funny!

You wont get diddly squat more comments from me, but don't come back with your tail between your legs after you do what you say and what we suggest has happened, looking for the right answers.

That last post was a bit harsh, my apologies.

Surely you can see that it is f**king annoying having others that should be genuinely interested in the vehicle (being a classic skylines forum!!) having nothing better to do than pointing out faults, or what i should be doing differently. At the end of the day, it is MY car, I paid for it, I am building it, and i can do whatever the hell i want with it. If this is how people on this site react to a bit of horsepower in a good loking body than i wont bother posting any further progress pics or dyno/track results. If i had known that posting information about a "classic skyline" was going to cause a loss of sleep for certain people i would not have bothered.

To those that were actually impressed and interested in the power figures and the level of engineering that has gone into the car, pm me and i can keep you up to date. To answer the previous question MAG, no i havent weighed as yet but will let you know.

To those that want to question my intentions/aims with the car, dont worry i wont bother keeping you up to date as i have more important things to do than argue about my own car.

And for the record, just to put certain minds at ease, i have Owned/Managed 3 workshops, one specialising in Japanese performance, and have completed countless blacktrack and gravel events, including the Australian Safari, Rally Australia in Perth twice, Dozens of state and Clubman events in Western Australia, Motorkhanas, and Hillclimbs (up to 3KM distance - thet arent all 700m mate). Therefore i do have a bit of an idea of what i am talking about - (Thought i had better mention that as it seems that im being spoken to like im retarded).. At the end of the day i bought the car for a bit of fun, and thats what it will be.

Ever done the Zig Zag Hillclimb?

My claim to fame was beating Greg Carr , Colin Bond and Ross Dunkerton up there in a time of 2.14.

Hmm sideways @ 160kph on ballbearing gravel strewn bitumen...mind you car crapped the front suspension on a yump the very next stage :laugh:

Gday mate, Good to hear from you. Small world - my old man used to have a workshop with Ross years ago, and built his famed channel 9 Zed! Yeah i miss the west a lot, heaps more motorsport activities. We used to run at club days at Wanneroo in all sorts of cars, wrx, turbo bluebird, datsun 1600 etc.. great fun. Not sure about the Zig Zag hillclimb, where is that?

Have you ever done the Wellington dam hillclimb near Collie? Great track, or it used to be.

We ran Rally Aust in a Swift Gti and then the proton Cup the following year.

Actually my brother and mates are still all involved local Rallying around the south west, and going well.

Great effort beating those 3 legends - thats no small feat!!

I reckon the most fun we had was the Aust safari though, 7 days of rallying. Race, Sleep, Race, Sleep etc etc etc. Top stuff.

As far as having to give rallying away due to the kids wanting food etc, I feel your pain,!! im only just starting to have fun again now!!

Miss the Gravel Though...

About 1.50 on this VID you see a cutting in the hill.

It was here that there was gravel on the road from other cars and I got so far sideways @ 160 in 4th I was looking AT that bank through the front window. Just after that is a long long way down to the left.

Damm I nearly sh#t my daks...sold the car later and I'm sure there was still a stain in the navigators seat :P

[ Hey Chris, is that a Toyota Deluxe (2.600)? if so I was looking at one of those today at Martin Falconers place. Don't know if you know him or not. It was a bit rough and was powered by a Holden 6.

I saw one of them once, it was in a rack at Moore Spares in Campbelltown, not quite complete but very nearly. When he moved up the road to become a Parts Plus agency, it went to Sims Metal ...................... what a shame, another great car became razor blades.
