Hi guys,

As some my know, I had a set of white faced dials installed not so long ago. Apparently once the guage cluster is removed, all guages revert to a ze4ro reading (as if ignition is tuned off), with the exception of the fuel guage. When the cluster was reconnected, the workshop was a bit slack, and held the fuel needle at halfway (assuming I had half a tank - guesswork!), when I was actually pretty much empty.

This resulted in the fuel light coming on when the guage read 1/2 tank, and shooting almost vertical (as far as it can go)whenever I had more than 1/2 tank of fuel in the car.

I have since had more work carried out, and had them to reset/recalibrate the fuel guage. I made sure the tank was completely full. It didn't work. Whenever they reconnected the fuel guage, the needle shot up as far as it can go, and nobody seems to be able to work out how to fix the issue.

The fuel warning light is still accurate, thankfully.

Has anyone had/heard of the same issue?

How do I recalibrate the guage so it reads accurately?

I like to have things perfect (maybe just a little obsessive-compulsive), and this has really been irking me lately. As of today, the workshop is out of suggestions, so you guys are my last hope! I didn't want to purchase another cluster before I heard from you guys, just in case we are missing something fundamental. As far as they are aware, the workshop did not damage/break any componentry during removal/replacement.

Ref initial fuel gauge issue........bugger.

Ref rectification attempts...........as above.

Assuming the ecu has not somehow been brain-washed with initial incorrect zeroing of panel meter (I can't see how as it is only a piece of plastic imho, others may know different) then for what it is worth I would be wondering ;

1. With all due respect to who-ever is involved, did the workshop actually do anything more on the second attempt. If not then no problem, just do what you wanted to do to fuel gauge pointer with known fuel level in tank.

2. If they have done something more then what was that something? Can it be reversed to initial problem status?

3. If workshop has moved pointer in accordance with correct fuel level & this problem is still there then something else has been inadvertently/unknowingly disturbed during the second rectification activity. If this is the case to find problem you will need to get back in there with multi-meter & signal injector (instro's love em) find out what is 0-100% (maybe 1-5vdc, no idea, never been there) by accessing signal from sender with multi-meter in tow & inject these values. Start by calibrating indicator separate from sender/transducer. If you get that working reconnect & view result. If problem still there it is not the indicator. Check out sender cct look for missing/crossed/incorrectly placed wiring to earth maybe? Find yourself an instro-tech/revhead worth his salt (well seasoned) in your area, go armed with beer (Crownies or Coronas I'd guess) & get stuck in.

PS: Mechatronics graduate/revheads are also very useful but often do not have access to the required test equipment.

Cheers. I ,suspect it will need a pro/guru's attention, just wasn't sure if there was atrick to it that I was missing.

Very annoying when you work so hard to have everything working/looking as it should!

ecu is Power FC - I have the hand controller - I have never heard of any setting for calibrating fuel guage, but my knowledge is quite limited. Could be worth a shot, and you never know if you don't ask, right?

Anyone?
