i have to say it's hardly a 'new racetrack for nsw'. I mean you couldn't hold anything like the events that we used to have at oran park. so if they reckon this replaces oran park then that's bullshit.

During our interview with Garry he said he wasn't aiming for this place to be a competitor to Wakefield (let alone a replacement to Oran).

Garry wants it to be a feeder into people who go driving at those places. For people who are kind of interested in track work but are too scared to even do Wakefield (yes, those people do exist) it would be a smaller "first step".

The impression I've gotten of its main purpose is public road driver training, however. Having a narrow road with lots of bends and switchbacks is a better simulation than a massive concrete patch or a super-wide "corner - straight - corner" race track. All the surface needs is some potholes and animals scurrying across it, and it would feel like your typical country back road.

Agreed with John above, after being on that "track" its quite easy to get in trouble if you come off or have a spin regardless of talent levels. There's zero run off areas (ok yes you wont be carrying eastern creek like speed, but a hit is a hit) so if you come off its a safe bet that you're going to touch something that you would rather have not touched. A car like a GTR feels too big for that place, as in no room to stretch its legs, but when you remember thats not the point of the place it can be forgiven.

One thing that suprised the hell out of me - its more expensive than Sutton Rd to hire. I questioned Gary and he hasnt been to Sutton Rd, which doesnt seem like the right thing to do before building a "not-quite-a-track" of your own with the vision of renting it out.

From my position in the club its not something a car club like us would be interested in using over and over again when Sutton Rd is more cost effective, SO close, offers large wet and dry skidpans, full circuit backtrack, way too much parking, BBQ areas, source of 98 octane close by, accomodation and pub 10mins drive away etc. We'll probably use it once just to say we've offered it to members but i highly doubt we would use it more than twice, ever.

You Mexicans are lucky, in Q we have boring QR and half a day away Morgan Park, and thats it. I would commit serious crime to get a run at Phillip Island or Eastern Creek without taking the week off to do it. It constantly shits me that every proposed track in Q disappears eventually, Q the motorsport arsehole state.

Sorry for the rant, not :3some:

HA should come down to South Australia mate....Drag strip whats that?? Oh good ol Bob Jane's mid 60's version of one that isnt even open anymore, mallala (great place) and thats it!! There's a 1/8th mile up at Whyalla (bout 4 hours from Adelaide) and thats the extent of it all!! There was talk about a new drag strip/race track being built down here but last i heard it was still talk...

You know, that honestly is the main reason we haven't moved up there. I can't beleve so many taxi teams test at QR it doesn't really seem ideal.

Isn't lakeside open again or about to be?

But the real mexicans (vics) have it pretty good, Phillip Island, Sandown and Winton, and Mallala and AIR aren't *that* far away for them.

Like i said AIR isnt even open anymore! Mallala is a great place been there many times V8's looked great around that place pity Cockhead took them away
