thinking of selling it and buying a new PC

how much u reckon my pc is worth

dual amd 2000mhz CPU's

1GB ddr registered ram

18GB 15k scsi disk

extra 18GB 10k scsi disk

adaptec scsi controller 64bit

intel pro 100 64bit network card

usb 2.0 4 port controller

3 ware sata raid controller 2 port

2 x 320gb sata disks 8mb cache

1 x cdrom

1 x cd burner

1 x dvd burner

1 x card reader

1 x DAT scsi tape drive (crappy type)

here's the original parts list

i know most of them are old / outdated nowadays

System assembled by EYO

CPU AMD K7 Athlon MP 2000+ , Retail Box

Micro-Star Socket A M/B K7D Master Dual CPU Motherboard

Apacer DDR-SDRAM 333MHz PC2700 512MB

Leadtek WinFast A250 LE TD GeForce4 Ti4200 VIVO 128MB. Retai

Floppy drive, 1.44 MB Panasonic

the extras that were changed from when i broughjt it were new CPU coolers, extra SCSI hdd, sata raid kit, 512mb more ram, 64bit network card and usb 2.0 controller & card reader

the system is still fast as and is absolutely fantastic for true SMP programs (sound forge 32, visual 3d rendering crap, and compressiong movies etc, tmpegenc is a great SMP app too).

its very noise as the can has about 7 fans inside it. its a heavy case and its a large black tower case with a transparent perspex window. needs to go on the floor

yeah didnt think it was worth a lot

it was 4k new when i brought it

its just a shame cos it still flies

its just loud and noisy as

would much perfer a tiny dual core system

ah well

$300 - $400 I'm guessing. The SCSI hard drives & controllers bumps it up a bit since those are sever grade stuff & still cost a bit today.

PC values falls faster than cars :D .

My $1.4k build now is worth like ~$150

Also depends on who you sell it off to (if you catch my drift... :))

I had a family friend who paid $1.5k for a Pentium 2 laptop about a year ago... enough said.

yeah it sucks a bit hey, but what can u do

i might just put it on ebay for starting price fof $700 with 19" CRT as a bonus (worth jack all)

and see where it goes- i can get a new decent PC dual core amd etc with a 19 or 22" lcd for like $1600 ish

so thats reasonable

i'd say about $350 max

oh wait didnt see the 2x 320gb sata's they'll still be worth a fair bit if you sell seperate hard drives hold there value a lot better then cpu/mobo/ram etc

Yeah you should do that, seperate the parts & sell or keep your hard drives for your next upgrade?

Man if only your SCSI hard drives where bigger (at least 80Gb) I would buy them, a 10k/15k rpm SCSI drive sh*ts all over any SATA II HDs for raw speed. :D

from what ive seen a single 15k scsi disc is no match for the humble sata II disks these days

they come with 8mb cache usually nowadays and can do much faster writes

my 15k is beaten by my pair of sata mirror disks in write speed easily, due to the cache on the disks

put 10 x 15k disks in an array and youll see the benefits of 15k rpm

weve got a sun box thats got 48 x sata II disks

that thing flies - you can max out the backplane as its got 6 sata II controllers

keep the computer paul. just sell the scsi hdds and change the case to a lower spec one. there are quite a few good ones from antec, coolermaster who will be very quiet.

unless you are into games in a major fashion, you computer will do you very well for a few more years. and the amount you save on buying a new computer can goto mods for your car ;-) bump the ram upto 2gig and forget about vista (its a load of crap/bloatware anyway).

the thing is, and no one will tell you this but after a basic pentium4 (1.8gig) you will almost see no difference in performance of general computer usage. the only thing that tax the system and need more CPU is games, video processing (which not many do, or what is bad about leaving your computer overnight to do it anyway), and running the latest and greatest version of bloatware (windows... vista).

i got a P4 2.8 with 1x80gig and 2x250gig (raid) and it goes alright. except loadup is slow but thats all the crap which is on it ;-) and the fact i havent reinstalled windows for 2+ years, its still got 512mb ram. for me to upgrade i have to get a whole new computer and as much as i would want to, its not justifiable expense. i use the comp to surf the net, burn dvd, convert avis to dvds (which i have stopped doing now that i got a dvdplayer that plays DIVX), music etc and it is more than enough.

the car needs the money more ;-)

Sell it to sarah for 1k. problem sold!

id say you would be wasting too much cash to upgrade unless you wanna go for some serious gaming. If you dont like it being so loud, find out why its so loud and fix it. replace the fans with silent 1s, silicone washers for everything and it'll run silent. I have a coolermaster case with 5 5 1/4 slots so theres plenty of room for stuffs and it isnt too big. i cant hear it at all

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365. I used to love doing this 20 years ago on SAU and got a bit nostalgic for a moment... 😅
