does anyone know any sparkies or electrical places that i can get an apprenticeship from? TAFE said that i gota have a job starting before the 1st of Feb or i'll be stuffed for another year :D help a brother out! in in liverpool but dont mind travelling abit. i know 1st year apprentices get jack all pay so im not quitting my job at jb just yet ugg.....need this apprenticeship!

could help you out if your willing to move to melbourne haha!

keep hunting mate, great trade to get into!

do something different to the average person looking, go round to a few electrical company factorys when they having beers on a friday night and introduce yourself. never know what can happen.

im actually goin to melb in a coupla weeks to visit some relo's...never know wat'll happen aye i might end up staying-

thanks for all those details matt. unfortunately i called in and applied a few hours too late and just missed out :( the secretary said that i probably would have got it too considering i live 2 mins away lol

a year later and im thinkn bout quittin my joint due to the fact that im not getting enough experience in the industrie and its is going to be against my advantage to stay:( any ideas where i can go? looked on seek and the usual places but seems not much on the market now

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a job at the moment. I have a lot of contact with different electrical companies and they are all struggling for work. The company I used to work for has in the last 12 months gone from about 180 electricians down to about 50. What sort of work are you doing at the moment? eg. maintenance, breakdown, construction, industrial?

well ive started out and currently still working in a switchboard manufacturing company which well....manufactures boards. i mean work is good and pay is great but the experience i lack alot. dont get to do any testing, no maintainance, etc etc. i mean i'd give almost anythign a go, maybe even working in IT laying data cables or something like that, as long as its got sometihng to do with electricity i guess. there is no chance for me to get my trades licence if i stay with my current employer unfortunately.

Which switchboard company do you work for if you don't mind me asking?

A lot of electrical guys are having problems with Capstone.

Unless your doing domestic electrical it's pretty hard. My employer is farming our app elecos out to companies for 3 month blocks to get the necessary training as we have a pretty narrow field of work. We have ~300 employees so its easy for us to do, but it may be an option??

I'm glad I didn't pick it as a trade :unsure:

hey brett, im looking for an electrician to start with also, im 17 i turn 18 in april, i finished school last year, ive been doing cabinet making for 6 months but its not what i want to do in the future, if you still can take on someone im interested, if you can let me know will be great thanks

Hows it going mate, im a 4th year electrical apprentice.

I had a lot of trouble finding an employer, i used an employment agency to begin with to start it, as you see, once you begin, its VERY easy to move around to other companies, if your not getting fired, there is no reason for another company to not hire a first year, a first year is the most valuable thing a company can have due to many reasons, however mainly due to the fact that they can be brain washed into being neat, reliable (working efficiently, effectively, turning up on time etc), a 3rd year for example that has bad habits is very hard to fix...we are going through that right now with a couple of new boys at my company.

We are not hiring at the moment but i would be more then welcome to ask for you. We mainly work in the city, and you would be pleasantly surprised how much you would earn as a 1st year with the right company.....may even shock you.

Pre-apprenticeship courses:

This is often overlooked by the apprentice, however, once this is sat, you are theory minded as a 1st year, before you begin so your not a retard, you have grasped some basic concepts.

In 6 months, 3 days a week you will be a 2nd year at tafe. I know your probably thinking how does that help you?

Well it shows the employer that you have initiative and you WANT to do the trade...anyone can rock up and say "yeah i wanna be a sparky cos i like wiring up stereos". If you've done the pre apprenticeship course, when you become 3rd year on the tools, you have finished tafe already, your boss now has you 5 days a week instead of 4, (or if you do block tafe - not sure if you can do this as a sparky actually)..So you become very valuable.

I might add i started with a terrible company for my 1st year manufacturing switchboards as well, (please pm me what company you are with currently), but like i said...you are now an apprentice...just apply for everything..

Hi Brett I have studied electrical installation for 2 years and plumbing for 1 year. I am currently working for an electrician here in the UK. I have a working holiday visa for australia and am looking for an employer who will let me help them out, even if its just a few days a week. I would need an apprenticeship types position as I do not have a huge amount of practical experience. I am, however, incredibly hard working and have a passion for learning. Can you help? Sophie

      Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy

      Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p

      @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position  I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on,  and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months

      interesting....sounds like the later trans has software differences (or AM vs JDM). If I wasn't going down the tuning route it would be worth looking into retrofitting a new computer to the old box.
