I have a bit of a situation on my hands,

two things:

1. should i recondition my rb25det.then do it up new turbo, manifolds, injectors etc etc or...

2. Just purchase a rb26dett?? And go from there.

Im looking at spending at the most $8500

any opinions on this would be great cheers

rebuild.

get head work too.

it will be better than a stock RB26 and at the end of your $8K you will have a better result.

especially considering that before you even start anything, an RB26dett from an R32 will cost you about $4K.

There goes half the budget.

and you'd be silly if you didn't do at least a mini refresh of the rb26 engine while it is on a stand (belts, pulleys, oil and water pumps - possibly a crank collar), then it would be silly not to get rid of those fragile stock turbo's to at least late R34 gtr turbo's...

There you have it.

a semi refreshed RB26dett ready to fit in your skyline and you have already spent at least $6K.

All in the car and driving around in a slightly boosted stockish RB26dett for about $7K

You know what could be done to an RB25det that you already have with $7K?

a shit load more.

I guess you COULD spend close to $8K to get a really low KM R34 GTR engine fitted and running.

but still.

the $8K spent on the rb25 you already have will geet you much more fasts.

yea if i purchased the rb26 was gona give it a good refresh. a guy was trying to sell me his r34 Nur spec engine for 9200 but it wasnt complete so had to pass.

im leaning towards the rb25 rebuild tho.

anybody know a rough idea how much power i can gain with that budget (roughly)?

best to build around a power level that will not only hang to gether but, be utilised in the overall performance of the car. That means some money set aside for things like drivetrain/brakes and suspension.

Not point having eleventybillion horsepower if you can't get any of it down.

I don't think you can go past an Rb26 for an out of the box great street motor. The stock setup sized turbos are good for a substancial power level, upto 260rwkw is not unusual. And with a set of cams in you can have really good power in by 3,000 rpm.The twin turbo setup is best for response/street power levels.

My old (very very old) RB26 motor with just a set of cams/ std turbos ( only 10psi) made 160rwhp by 3,000rpm. Thats better power at that rpm than you see from many peoples RB30DET hybrids and single small turbos. The individual throttle bodies also make for better throttle response.

I would stick with teh 25 and (as above) get a nice build and some headwork. You will have a stronger motor in the end, and you will know the history of it, plus you can get it built to your exact specs.

Yea i was aiming for about 260kw+ but if i went the rb26 route im not to fussed about power levels. would develop it further sometime down the track

very true, will take it into consideration :)

If you have the whole 8k to spend at once. RB26DETT = Win.

Get the 26. Dont bother with the 25 because. the 26 can handle more power stock and everything is there to make the power. much easier.

Go the 26, If i could go back i would not have the forged 3 litre id have a stock rb26 engine running 320ish rwkw.

This point is kinda useless.

he is going to rebuilt the RB25 or buy an RB26.

if he is rebuilding the RB25 with forged pistons and rods (all usual rebuild bits), gets head work done.

what advantage does the $4K stock RB26 motor have now other than 100cc and 6 throttle body head?

How is it in any way stronger?

and he is looking for 260rwkw +

The RB25 he has is more than capable.

I have $8500 for parts. ive already taken the rebuild costs of my budget

you didn't mention this first.

if you have $8.5K for accessories to put on this rebuilt engine, you could do ALOT!!!

Is your RB25 actually broken?

if not, I'd buy an RB26.

sell your rb25.

have even more money, rebuild the RB26 well, then spend that $8K on that.

nah defenitly not broken lol

just want it faster and reliable

and if i go the 26 ill have alot less money to play around with but taking it into

consideration cheers

Put a 26 on an engine stand and build it up at in your own time. No stress.

I've got a good one for sale ;)

So there is nothing wrong with your current RB25?

If not then easy, dont even rebuild it. Spend the money and get a nice HKS 2835 Pro S and bolt it to the std manifold. Get some bigger injectors, fuel pump and ecu. I assume you have an IC and exhaust already. Z32 AFM and good tune will see you making a very nice and streetable 250-270rwkws safely and reliably. Just spend the money on a good tune by a good tuner. How else would my completely std Rb20 make between 230-260rwkws for several years, numerous track days, motorkhanas days, a few runs at the strip and two 3 day tarmac rallies.

Dont forget RB26 transplant means trip to registration guys for number check and the engine has to be running std ECU etc etc, otherwise you can get dicked...its a real possibility

Dont discount the reliability of a std engine...the above will cost you about 6k, just for turbo, ecu injectors, tuning, Z32 and odds and ends such as new timing belt, major service etc etc

PS...there are ppl makign between 300-330rwkws on std RB25s that get driven hard and they are alive and well. There is a particularly freakish RB25 in Vic at the moment making 360rwkws, it has survived countless dyno pulls and a motorkhana day, and will be doing Sandown in a few weeks. He is tryign to blow it up so learning the limits of a well tuned RB25

GIVE IT SOME CURRY!

Holy shit, thats very impressive. Who tuned it to get those kind of numbers on a stock bottem end?
