Hey Guys

In your opinion what type of exahust should i invest in? i have a 1996 S2 N/A and i really have no idea. I want power over looks and sound but i do want o have atleast a little bit of respect when it comes to the looks and sound of the system, if you know what i mean.

So what size would give me the best power upgrade? i was thinkin a 3inch cat back right thru but seriously have no idea.

Cheers

What engine? RB20E or RB25DE?

Either way I would say a maximum of 2.5" and mild steel pipe/mufflers, not stainless. Stainless systems can sound real bad on an N/A. I run a 2" on one of my RB20DE's with three straight through glass packed resonators.

My rallycar (RB20DE) runs the same, but 2.5".

The car with the 2" pipe goes way harder than the rallycar, so a small diameter pipe doesn't hurt performace on a lil' N/A. IMO the 2" pipe sounds better too.

respect is earned, not given by the looks and sound of an exhaust system.

you should invest in an exhaust for the car. try to search around the naturally aspirated section on what other people have done and their results (click here to search).

if you want high peak power at high rpm, get a large exhaust. around 3.0" will do.

if you want response and a usable power band, get a 2.25-2.50" exhaust

data and information in and around the forums is readily available from other owners who've done various mods.

it's a typical how long is a piece of string question, there are so many types of systems available, hks, fujitsubo, nismo, x-force, custom systems, etc. find one you like and get it.

to get you started here are some links.

sound files of various skylines with various exhaust systems

that should answer your questions plenty. anything specifically that you can't find, feel free to start a new thread.

the following statement is not directed at you, it is a reminder to everyone posting in regards to anything.

too many 'what XXXXXX should i get' threads, put it simply if you can't put the effort to do the research for your own car then you probably shouldn't be owning a skyline. you can get advice and constructive feedback, but you can't get other people to choose for you. that's the whole point of modifying and customization - no one is going to spoon feed you.

p.s. - thread locked.

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
