Nismo Super Coppermix Clutches

Has anyone used the Nismo super Coppermix clutches that can give me a heads up on them?

I'm assuming they're a carbon plate with copper impregnated.

What are they like in traffic and does the copper cause any shudder as opposed to the plain carbons?

they are awesome clutches! I drove one in a 32 not long ago and it was very VERY driveable. being a full face design you dont get that puck clutch shuddering if you try and take off slowly. The clutch handled whatever abuse you could throw at it!

If my exedy fails, i know i'll be getting one of these nismo ones

Shuddering is definitely one issue I'm concerned about but I also need a clutch that backs off quickly for smooth changing and that is forgiving in heavy traffic......so so far so good.

That clutch looks sik, it was definitely the other one I was looking at and I think its definitely on a par with the exedy & nismo.

Are you running the single or twin, how much power are you making and did you get it from Nengun?

Was a little nervous, as i had previously spent alot of money on various clutches, only to find that they drove like shit. Anyway, just before Christmas i drove a GTR to a local car wash. I honestly thought the clutch was std, as it had a std engine and felt really easy/smooth to drive. I later found out that it had the same Nismo clutch, that i had bought for my car: i was happier than a pig in shit .

Stick with the Nismo Super Coppermix, you wont be disappointed.

One of the other clutches i had previously purchased was an Excedy twin plate, that people "claimed" to be like the Nismo clutch, but was a prick to drive: on/off style take-off.

I can get the Nismo from Japan for approx $2000 landed.

The Exedy & ATS from Japan for a couple of hundred more.

Has anyone found them cheaper elsewhere?

Mine is a "push-type" Twin plate, Competion clutch, as it is being fitted to my RB30DET, that is currently being built and will hopefully make 300-330rwkw, with heaps more torque than an rb25 .

I used Perfect Run, and the clutch arrived within 2 weeks of making the payment. I found Nengun, Perfect Run, and Greenline to be roughly all the same price.

Here is the i.d. code for my clutch (off Greenline website).

mine is a twin plate with the carbon coated flywheel and pressure plate and it is the lightweight flywheel and the 1350kg pressure plate. I actually bought the clutch last year in august but as i had a broken gearbox it wasn't worth fitting, i finally got a new gearbox in b4 xmas. But as i was missing a thrust bearing and sleve for the clutch which only got in the week before. I have yet to fit.

i am making about 300rwkw on my VQ35 TT

this clutch should be good for around 800hp but i got the extra carbon coated shit and that should make it handle more torque.

as i will be building up the motor it should still be able to handle the power i want.

What about a Jim Berry full monty clutch? im thinking of getting one soon

Well from personal experience, I wouldn't even consider the Nismo clutch (never used 1) when the Jim Berry full monty is half the price and more than capable of handling high power (I did over 30x 8000rpm launches in my 330awkw r32 gtr and their wasn't any clutch smell let alone slipping or stalling).

Yes the JB is heavier than standard but it's not a hard clutch to drive whether just cruising to work or fanging it around a race track and i'd highly recommend them.

The thing to consider though with clutches is that building a clutch that will handle 800+ hp is easy....larger diameter driven plate with steel faces and heavier diaphram....problem is, it's not very streetable, ie. heavy pedal, shuddering and in/out feeling which is bad for the driveline.

What I like about the Boss Drive setups like the Nismo, ATS and the new Exedy 'D' Twins is excellent grip without ridiculous amounts of clamping pressure and the Boss setup is very driveline friendly.

Jim Berry sounds like a top bloke that knows his stuff but with all that I just read, I didn't find anything on compound mixes etc. He also lightens cast flywheels and with 4000lbs clamping pressure, which is what I read, you're asking for an amputation. I prefer the Jap steel lightened flywheels after seeing an old customer of mine that used to work at Super Roos in Edwardstown (when Super Chev were still around) lose a chunk off his tibia, snapped his left lower leg at right angles and a piece hit him in the left shoulder!!
