Has anyone used the Nismo super Coppermix clutches that can give me a heads up on them?

I'm assuming they're a carbon plate with copper impregnated.

What are they like in traffic and does the copper cause any shudder as opposed to the plain carbons?

or this one (slightly dearer)

they are awesome clutches! I drove one in a 32 not long ago and it was very VERY driveable. being a full face design you dont get that puck clutch shuddering if you try and take off slowly. The clutch handled whatever abuse you could throw at it!

If my exedy fails, i know i'll be getting one of these nismo ones

Thanks Simon, appreciate the info and your experience.

Shuddering is definitely one issue I'm concerned about but I also need a clutch that backs off quickly for smooth changing and that is forgiving in heavy traffic......so so far so good.

Hey mate, WE can order in the NISMO clutches for you if you like. We also have a brand new OS Giken triple plate clutch in stock rrp $3600 "comes with push-pull convertor" but willing to let it go for $2900 ono.

Hey Ryan, What sort of price can you do on the exedy and nismo in the first post of this thread?

what about one of these

i have on going in my Z on wednesday and after i bed it in i can take u for a spin?

Thanks Cain, I'd love to know how it goes.

That clutch looks sik, it was definitely the other one I was looking at and I think its definitely on a par with the exedy & nismo.

Are you running the single or twin, how much power are you making and did you get it from Nengun?

I have the Nismo Super Coppermix going in my car.

Was a little nervous, as i had previously spent alot of money on various clutches, only to find that they drove like shit. Anyway, just before Christmas i drove a GTR to a local car wash. I honestly thought the clutch was std, as it had a std engine and felt really easy/smooth to drive. I later found out that it had the same Nismo clutch, that i had bought for my car: i was happier than a pig in shit >_<.

Stick with the Nismo Super Coppermix, you wont be disappointed.

One of the other clutches i had previously purchased was an Excedy twin plate, that people "claimed" to be like the Nismo clutch, but was a prick to drive: on/off style take-off.

i have 1 in my car

best investment i've made

sexy as

Thanks Andy, it looks like the twin in the pic, can you tell me more, ie. any shudder on take off, pedal feel, gear changing, cost, etc.

Thanks for the info Al.....is yours a twin and where did you get it from?

Mine is a "push-type" Twin plate, Competion clutch, as it is being fitted to my RB30DET, that is currently being built and will hopefully make 300-330rwkw, with heaps more torque than an rb25 :ermm:.

I used Perfect Run, and the clutch arrived within 2 weeks of making the payment. I found Nengun, Perfect Run, and Greenline to be roughly all the same price.

Here is the i.d. code for my clutch (off Greenline website).

NISMO Super Copper Mix Twin COMPETITION model 3002A-RR593-C

Twin plate. 1100kgf/m. Rated to 740ps. Push type.

Mine was also just under $2000 delivered

mine is a twin plate with the carbon coated flywheel and pressure plate and it is the lightweight flywheel and the 1350kg pressure plate. I actually bought the clutch last year in august but as i had a broken gearbox it wasn't worth fitting, i finally got a new gearbox in b4 xmas. But as i was missing a thrust bearing and sleve for the clutch which only got in the week before. I have yet to fit.

i am making about 300rwkw on my VQ35 TT

this clutch should be good for around 800hp but i got the extra carbon coated shit and that should make it handle more torque.

as i will be building up the motor it should still be able to handle the power i want.

I can get the Nismo from Japan for approx $2000 landed.

The Exedy & ATS from Japan for a couple of hundred more.

Has anyone found them cheaper elsewhere?

SLED, keep in touch

ENR34 Luke can get it for you cheaper than Nengun

he has a mate that lives in Japan

you get your part before u pay (cant get any better than that)

Hey that sounds like good news Andy.....Luke if you're out there, help please!!

Al, Cain and others, thanks for your imput in this thread....good pics and good info.

What about a Jim Berry full monty clutch? im thinking of getting one soon

Well from personal experience, I wouldn't even consider the Nismo clutch (never used 1) when the Jim Berry full monty is half the price and more than capable of handling high power (I did over 30x 8000rpm launches in my 330awkw r32 gtr and their wasn't any clutch smell let alone slipping or stalling).

Yes the JB is heavier than standard but it's not a hard clutch to drive whether just cruising to work or fanging it around a race track and i'd highly recommend them.

Thanks for the link Dave.......I've just done alot of reading.

Ben, thanks for your imput too.

The thing to consider though with clutches is that building a clutch that will handle 800+ hp is easy....larger diameter driven plate with steel faces and heavier diaphram....problem is, it's not very streetable, ie. heavy pedal, shuddering and in/out feeling which is bad for the driveline.

What I like about the Boss Drive setups like the Nismo, ATS and the new Exedy 'D' Twins is excellent grip without ridiculous amounts of clamping pressure and the Boss setup is very driveline friendly.

Jim Berry sounds like a top bloke that knows his stuff but with all that I just read, I didn't find anything on compound mixes etc. He also lightens cast flywheels and with 4000lbs clamping pressure, which is what I read, you're asking for an amputation. I prefer the Jap steel lightened flywheels after seeing an old customer of mine that used to work at Super Roos in Edwardstown (when Super Chev were still around) lose a chunk off his tibia, snapped his left lower leg at right angles and a piece hit him in the left shoulder!!

    • Oh and I lost my headlight washer jet cover!
    • Ok, so I got myself some X1 wheels really cheap to try out, they're a bit different and I like them but they're really narrow (18x8) they are available in staggered 18x8/9 also but really hard to find.  I kinda dig them, but not as much as the F10 19's I usually run, so these go into the wheel pile.   As I mentioned in another thread, I got a new exhaust. It's an off-the-shelf stainless one that fits OH-KAY. I don't love the tips size and how far they come out the back, I think I might cut the tips off and replace with some smaller (~3") ones that don't extend as far. It sounds really good though, I'm not sure if its just in my head but the car feels a little quicker, more responsive.    I fitted an eBay special front lip. Surprisingly it fit perfectly and all holes lined up. Its a little rickety but I haven't put any double sided tape on yet, I want to clean the front bar up where it has scraped the road a lot and fil in the number plate holes (or, get body coloured wrap to cover them - is this a thing?  I'm not sure if I'll leave it gloss or pain it matte. I really like it though, I don't particularly like the front bar without it, I don't really like the M-Sport and to get anything else is just too expensive. That said, I might need a new one now anyway as I dropped the car onto the jack after forgetting to put ramps under the front wheels. It bent a lot and while it did go back to normal after I got the car off the jack, I do fear I have not done it any favours.   Lastly, my headlights died. Different problems in each. They have gotten much dimmer over the past year or so, I put new (uber expensive) OSRAM bulbs in them but to no avail. One of them pointed at the ground and the other just kinda did its own thing with light working sometimes. Yeah, check this 18 year old BMW headlight wire. I reckon I know why they were stuffed.       BTW, the yellow and black is the power to the Xenons. Yikes. I hunted around an researched my options here. I would have loved to just get a replacement harness but not a thing. My car has adaptive headlights, that is they rotate left and right with the steering wheel. Good condition used adaptive xenons were over $700 each, non adaptive were around $400 each, but I couldn't help but think that they're all around 18 years old now, surely they'd have the same problems. So I looked at newer LCI headlights but they were even more expensive and I couldn't confirm that they'd be plug and play with lots of people having lots of opinions so not worth the risk.  I ended up getting brand new Chinese headlights from MARS. They're very close to OEM with only the angel eyes being a bit different. I didnt want crazy turn signals or sharp DRL's or anything. Not my bag.  They're not adaptive, I thought thats a feature I wouldn't really miss. So I coded that out.  The lights are awesome, they look so nice and they take so many years off the car. The angel eyes look great and the headlight brightness is ridiculous. I was so used to the old ones, I didn't realise just how bad they were. The new ones use the OEM bulbs, Xenon ballast and leveller motor which I was happier with. The only issue with them is that the rear cover is held on by SEVEN screws. This will be a nightmare to get to and open when I need to change bulbs.
    • Now that you mention it I can see those too. More subtle. The lighting and low resolution makes it hard to assess super well what's going on but what is visible is bad enough to pull the motor.
    • I feel like this is due an update
    • Yeah, I wasn't giving two f**ks for the ring running around the bore. I was looking at the vertical scratches running up and down across the hatch marks.
