Don't hang me. I have had my fair share of trouble with police, both in cars and out, and in court too. We all drive cars that attract alot of attention. We (almost) all have modifications that we know do not comply with regulations and laws. Fair enough.

What you have to understand is, these laws and regulations are in place to protect Joe Average, who either does not have a passion for cars, or is simply too stupid for his/her own good; remember they exist for the lowest common denominator. So, when we are pulled over for being too low, too loud, putting out too many emissions etc etc, we all must be responsible for our modifications. I have been defected on my last car, and had to go to EPA for my current car. The modifications are a risk i am willing to take, purely for the fact that i enjoy the car. If i get 'caught', sure it is a hassle, but you deal with it and move on.

Lastly (sorry for the rant), not every cop out there is an arsehole. The number of times i have been pulled over by a good cop are as many as bad. There are as many who have an interest in cars as us. We keep going on about how 'only imports get picked on' but who really knows how many s*itboxes get defected? Just be polite and plesant to them and they may do the same to you. If some smart arse, attitude packing little s*it gave me stick at my work i'd be pissed off too.

BTW, below is a post i wrote in another thread where a fellow enthusiast was major defected.

the main point i get pisse off with cops is because the mods we do make the car run cleaner and make it more safe to drive. Eg lowering a car reduces its centre of gravity, hence making it corner better and lesser chance of rolling over.

seriously but its becoming really bad where anything non factory can b a defect, even a car off ther factory can b defected. 'ignorance is not an excuse' that applies to us when knowing the law, it should also apply to the police force, with none of this ****ing guilty till proven inncoent bs. its also a vicious cycle where some1 who has done nuthing wrong has the mentality "that all cops r cops' and then a cop thinks "well ****, the next time i c em ill defect em hard', this is abuse of power for personal gain which IS NOT allowed. i think if these stupid laws were dropped australia would b seen as a wonder for modified and show cars, all u hav to do is look in a fast fours mag or go auto salon to c that.

I cant think of too may corners where if driving legally you are going to roll your car, most streets in Sydney are 60-80km/hr. A car is going to understeer/oversteer before it rolls. :D

As for making the car run cleaner... come on we make the engine more effecient hp wise, but as far as noise and pollution, well thankfully its too expensive to do an exhaust gas test every rego check.

Start regular trips to the circuit, then you wont fill the compulsion to drive like a space cadet on the road. Once Police and authorities start to believe that the scene is doing the right thing, things may get better. Whilst people are neglecting to run cats, insist on speeding, racing, doing burnouts, attempting to be a D1 superstars....the list goes on things are only going to get stricter.

In Sydney they are tough but tyoically fair, but by the sounds of it nowhere near like in Vic, im actually a little worried about driving down in September.

Maybe i should stay in Albury every night, then do dawn runs at 3am into the city to see my sister, ensuring that car is parked and locked by 6.30am. To stop them defecting me whilst parked i might need a car cover. Then under the cloak of darkness ill slip back accross the border where NSW Police are caring/understanding individuals.:D :D :D

raza has open up a can of worms. [/b]

No, just re-read what i posted. I think you've misunderstood my remarks.

I have been done twice for my BOV. Once I got a fine the police were good about it, The people that were smartarse really got a canning. One day in Campbelltown I left it pretty hard at the lights

two thick black strips up the road, Mr police man tried hard to get but not that day,

Two weeks later I was driving 60kph in a 70 zone and the

blue and reds came on, so I pulled over. He was pissed off bad

Saying I was doing 90 in a 70 zone.

I said thats yer sure I stopped at that roundabout and look how far away we are now(200m).

then he tried to say that my car was to low and to loud

I said it is a bit I was there when the car was at the ADR place and so was my brother and he is in H/patrol.

he dropped the subject and said to me SLOW DOWN.

We have this same discussion all the time over on the Syndicate Motorsports forums.

There's not alot i can say, that other people haven't already said, apart from adding in a few stories of my own.

I work nights, and on one of my 3am 'servo runs' to get some food, i drove away from the petrol station, without indicating twice, and then doing 80 in a 60 zone. A polica car then pulled out of a side street, lights blazing, and i pulled over. After talking to me for a while, he let me go, with a warning that if i continue to drive like that, he'll be seeing me again. I was polite, and did as was asked. Now, this may not happen all the time, and maybe he was just so damn cold standing outside, he just wanted to get back in his heated SS, but i was lucky. Let me say this, now i indicate out of there :(

There's been many other times, some like this, some not.

Oh, and i'd like to also add, that the ACT is the only place in Australia that has the right to refuse an Engineer's Cert. for anything. SO even with one, we're not safe. Although, we are allowed pod filters, and BOV's venting to atmosphere.

Stay safe people, and keep a cool head.

its pretty simple, drive a defective car, expect to be fined.

you drift, expect to be impounded. theres a reason why some of us have fast cars.

if you know your laws you wont get fined. in QLD its 100% legal to have a ATMO BOV, so long as it dosent produce more then 90db and dosent make your cars emitions more then what was set to the year of manafacture. so if you get done, all i say is, send me to DOT ill get emmisions testing, you get ya fine, go to dot, pack ya exhaust with steel mesh, turn your boost controler down (EBC is totally legal jsut as long as it dosent make ya car too rich) and prepare to have things shoved up ya cars ass.

i jsut want my licence back now.

ok, i finally got around to taking my car to an authorised inspection station.

The guy informed me that i had to get a full inspection done on the car, and more than likley a engineer's cert. because of the mods on my car (3 inch exhaust, pod filter and bov).

According to him ill probably have to return the car to standard form to keep my registration...

At that is gonna cost a shitload!!!.

I cant handle this shit.... im gonna sell it...

Well if that be the case, QLD doesnt comply with ADRs, which state that ALL crank case gasses MUST go through the exhaust system - its pollution control, and has been a law for a long time.

With an atmo BOV, the crank case gasses get vented to atmosphere.

Its all well and good to say 'if you know your laws', but reality is that what gets passed depends on who does the inpspecting, not on the laws.

Hi Steve, help me out here, how does having an non plumb back BOV vent crankcase gases to atmo? The BOV should only open when the throttle is closed (partial or full) and when the throttle is closed the PVC valve opens. The cam cover breathers vent to the inlet (after the AFM) on throttle open, but to the PVC valve on throttle closed. So no crankcase gases go into the inlet on throttle closed and therefore no crank case gases go out the BOV, which only opens on throttle closed.

In fact I reckon a non plumb back BOV is a polution benefit. All the air that comes out of the BOV goes though the air cleaner first, so I reckon it must be cleaner than the ambient air going in.

Or have I missed something?

When the BOV vents some of the blowby from the cam cover breathers will be vented along with this, as it has been fed from the cam cover into the inlet pipework.
