Im still yet to see a decently steap driveway, you all just have to take a mad sideways turn.. Mines so steep I have to complete a single wheel burnout as the car balances on two oposite wheels.. Pfft you think you got it bad

My car gets stuck on the way up. You need momentum for it to go up, without it, you're stuck. Open diff FTL. :(

I'll try to take a picture with my car on the way up/down.

Post a pic of your driveway DECIM8.

mate give me a challenge lol,i do hate thos lil gutter driveways but there not that hard.ill take a picture of mine tomorrow for u guys!mine i have to go full lock to the left and only the left at a sertain point to get out with out scraping with about 4mm clearance.to get in i have to hit it at a sharp angle until i get the front bar over and then i can straiten up.

I was thinking about modifying my curb to get it sitting flush with the road, but not sure how my parents would like that. But if I do that, I'd have to redo my whole front verge. The curb looks easier than it really is, and then my driveway drops down steeply. My mate's stock height VP commodore scrapes when he pulls in. But i didnt expect this thread to get so big!

dude just reverse it up one wheel at a time n come off with lots of angle one tyer at a time again this is not bad at all might take some picz of my low ass and my curb to show u, by the way if u really wana do somethin about it then just add a little cement in front of ur drive way with slope but dont go over bord :) i done that b4 to an old house i use to live at but it was a loop so no one else would notice it.. i imagine the counsel wont like it that much..

but seriously thats nothing hey u need to learn how to go up n down things lots of places have big bumps n if u want to just drive over them normaly then get a 4x4 or somethin..

I am liking the hydralics idea, why scrape when you can bounce over the curbs? Also good for avoiding paying for parking, small chrildren running over the road, or avoiding the red light sensors when screaming through traffic lights. Yeah, I think I like the hydralics idea!

I know, its because hydralics don't use springs, so it makes the car very dangerous. I've enquired about air bags, but they don't fit in the front, not enough room. Also, I want a car that handles really well, so airbags are out. I was thinking about something like what Tein brought out a while ago, but I didn't realise its $4k. I think I'll just scape a bit!

Hydraulics aren't legal in Australia as far as I know. Only air suspension. Air suspension can't be made to go as fast or strong as hydraulics can, but good enough.

dunno about that. my soarer had hydraulics. was very nice. and it was perfectly legal and road registered. handled very well and height adjustment at the touch of a button.

edit: should add they were factory fitted hydraulics though not aftermarket.

my driveway is a bitch too. i can only enter/exit on one specific angle. it took me about 5 goes to find it when i first got the car.

your best bet is to come onto the driveway as side on as you can as if you're parking horizontally to the kerb. then hook it so your tyre gets onto the driveway before the rest of the car follows.

Are you sure they're hydraulic though? I thought they were air cylinders/air bags? Hydraulics as far as I know use oil and I always thought it was illegal. :)

yes, thanks I do know the difference between hydraulics and airbags. about 900 toyota soarers were fitted with hydraulic active suspension (very tricky stuff, so no sway bars, no springs, just big hydraulic rams and a big hydraulic pump all computer controlled to give nice ride, but super flat cornerning). there are plenty of air bag soarers though and they are all rubbish.

You might be right, but I've never heard of hydralics being legal in Australia. Aftermarket ones definately arent

What I read would've definitely been for after market hydraulics.

I guess the best way around the driveway would be to adjust your driving or raise your car.

    • You will need to extend the turbo inlet pipe somehow, which could/might be done with silicone/rubber pipe, but might need steelwork, depending on your intake. And you will need to change the pipework on the outlet in teh same way, but this is more likely to need steelwork.
    • I see... Any idea how much fab work is required? I note the Hygear megathread but its like 900 pages
    • I should try the experiment you're talking about, the throttle switch is still there carried over from the R32 and it's still all wired up but after I did the whole intake manifold refurb and had to recalibrate the TPS I managed to somehow get the idle switch reporting activation at 0.22V, then when I adjusted it to 0.45V for idle it decided the engine was permanently no longer idling which caused some very weird behavior, closed loop idle was disabled so it would basically be at the whims of the cold start valve and whatever the base timing table was at. Then just unplugging/replugging the TPS with the ECU live caused it to relearn the idle TPS position and decide 0.45V was idle. Presumably there's nothing in the TPS that allows for the throttle switch to "recalibrate" like that, not easily at least.
    • Duh... to answer my own silly question, it's actually described in the FSM... ...400 pages away at the end of the manual, for RB25DE/DET signal descriptions, it cites the TPSwitch signal action, is dependent on the TPSensor value ~ this tends to infer the builtin POT voltage signal is the primary, and the switches are fallback/secondary should the POT fail/TPSensor signal lost (and switch alone with no TPSensor signal allows for base idle speed setting).... makes sense... they (TPS units) used to fail/wear the POT with time, they're not exactly built to last ~ having the switch as a redundancy gets around this...(or, it's less likely both signals would be lost as they're on different power rails)... and of course wrt RB26DETT, you have to electrically disconnect the IACV solenoid from the harness, to defeat idle air control...
    • Dose is unaware just how much fun 145-150kw would be in a 2.5L NC MX5. It would be one of the most fun things to drive to ever grace SAU.
