If anyone had a bit of knowledge on how ac compressors work it would be handy.

I have a Friends Toyota Hilux we are trying to get the AC to work, Basically we have looked at what we can but the compressor does not turn on (i cant hear that normal thud when it turns on and its not engaging the clutch on the compressor).

We have checked the wiring to the compressor, it have one wire running into it and thats it, it has an earth running out of it and into the body which is secure.

I have tested this wire and there is no power, I have gone back to where the cable goes into the firewall and it has no power, inside the car the ac light comes on, and there is power at the socket for the ac fuse. I am guessing the breakdown loes after the fuse box but before the wire comes through the firewall in the engine.

We have also run a cable direct from the battery to the compressor where the wire goes on but it did not make a difference, any one help or any ideas.

I can supply pics if needed.

its not a ground out of the compressor? so what happens when the clutch engages (that thud) and the motor is running, is there any scraping/grind noise from the clutch? are you sure the clutch is engaging?

does it have gas? there is a pressure sensor on the canister which, when there is gas, allows the compressor to turn on. if there is no gas, or the pressure is low, it doesnt allow power to go to the compresor.

if its a 2 pin sensor, yo can short it and see if the compressor turns on.

do this at your own risk.
